Shaq's career was closer to ending, but it wasn't ending. He was only 31. He and Wade were equal pieces on a title team.
Kobe was the more popular player after the feud started, and it's not even close. In 2002 Shaq got more all-star votes than Kobe. The next season is when they had a real rocky start as a team, and **** started to hit the fan. Kobe led ALL all-stars in voting in 2003 and 2004. Shaq got fewer votes than Ben Wallace. In 2005 as a member of the Miami Heat, Shaq got more votes than anybody except Yao Ming.
I think it's clear who was more popular in LA during the feud.
