The meltdown that is happening on the Vandy message boards

yeh but the entire experience of playing football at Vanderbilt has to really blow. I mean you play in a high school stadium, zero tradition, no fan support and a crappy team. You only play in a real SEC atmosphere when you go on the road. You look up in the stands when you play at home to see a half full stadium of mostly visitor fans. The entire athletic experience would push me to one of those other schools.

I'm sure they rationalize it with the campus experience (the place is gorgeous, I'm not gonna lie) and getting to live in a prime spot on West End. Nashville would be an incredible college town.

I have no problem admitting that Vanderbilt was one of my top 4 schools coming out of high school to attend. They of course had all 32 of their gorgeous girls attend the on campus visits and the campus and being in Nashville does sell itself. If they had even an average football team they would be a perfect college town because Nashville is one of the best cities in the country, and if you don't think the girls at Vandy are good looking (there are a few, as I said not a ton though) then just go to a bar or any street in Nashville and see all the gorgeous women in sundresses, because Nashville does have a lot of attractive girls, just not as many are students.

Nashville's a good city, it's not a quintessential college town though. To me a college town is a town that revolves around the school. So many people living in Nashville aren't from Nashville or even Tennessee and have practically zero ties to Vandy. There's also so much going on around town that it draws attention away from the school.

In Fayetteville for example, there's no other show in town; Arkansas is the show. Therefore they have amazing fan support, amazing facilities and pretty successful programs across the board.

As others mentioned, the Nashville area is a great place for single, young alumni and young families.

This is how I see it as well.

Nashville is great for people ages 21-35. It's not quite as great for college kids or families. If you have money, enjoy the bar scene, and like living downtown, there's no better place in the South, IMO.

But it's getting expensive as all hell (surpassing Chicago prices for apartments) without incomes rising to match the increased cost of living. The city's bubble is about to burst. Too many overpriced condos and apartments (seriously found a newish complex offering standard 800 sq/ft 1 bdrs going for $1900/month on Elliston).

For me personally, Chattanooga is looking more and more appealing every day.

There is quite a bit to do in Nashville but I wouldn't say with it being a destination city that it overshadows what could be a great college football town. The Vanderbilt athletics department has done this to itself over the better part of a century. If Vanderbilt actually pulled the trigger and put some money into renovating it's stadium, hiring a big name coach, and start grinding hard on recruiting Nashville could easily be a college football city.

That being said, what does the short hire list look like for Vandy? We all know Mason isn't going to work a miracle this year and he's going to get fired so who are Vandy's prospects?

Damn, 1900? I had no idea things were creeping up like that.

Dallas Cowboys to use virtual reality technology

The Dallas Cowboys have introduced a drone to film part of their practices this offseason and they will also use virtual reality to help their players improve in 2015.

A source confirmed the Cowboys have struck a deal with StriVR Labs, a virtual reality company with software that allows players a 3-D look at live action from practice.

Former Stanford kicker Derek Belch developed the program that was used at his former school as well as major programs, like Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson and Vanderbilt in the last year. Tech blog re/Code first wrote about the agreement with the Cowboys.

Sounds like a ringing endorsement not to use the product.

It gets worse, actually.

Here's one for $2,200 on Elliston: Wahat a VIEW!!! The Dallas on Elliston

The rental market in Nashville has gone completely insane. My gf and I make decent money and will be priced completely out of the midtown area within a couple of years.

Agree completely. It's gotten totally absurd downtown. I have no idea who can actually afford to live there now, maybe people moving into the city from up north or out of town? It's definitely not recent grads. I knew two girls that were paying $600/month apiece last year to live in a 1-bedroom on 12 South. These were grown women (not lovers, either) sharing a bedroom like college freshmen. For $600 apiece! So ridiculous.

If I was in the market for real estate, I'd try to snag something in East Nashville now, before it gets too expensive there too. That's where I'm looking to move this summer, fingers crossed.

You may have missed that boat already. I live in South Nash for that reason.

Even East Nashville is getting to be too expensive for a lot of people. I've heard that Donelson is the next East Nashville. It is still affordable for the average person and can stand to be "gentrified" in certain areas like East Nashville has been. However, I agree is it INSANE how expensive this city is getting. There are some beautiful apartments being built in the gulch and off of Demombreun by music row but even if I could afford it, a ~650sq.ft. apartment for 1800 a month just isn't worth it.

That's just insane. Who would spend that kind of money? You could practically get a mansion with an $1800 per month mortgage.

It's mostly young professionals who don't mind throwing away 50% of their income on rent to live somewhere "cool" and rich Vandy/Belmont/Lipscomb kids whose parents don't bat an eye at paying nearly $2,000/month for a small 1 bedroom apartment that's within walking distance of campus.

And you're right about the mansion thing. I checked craigslist the other day and found a 5 bdr palace about 20 minutes away from downtown Chattanooga for $1900/month.

"Throwing away" might be too kind. What's happening now is more like taking a piss on a pile of money, dousing it in gas, then setting it on fire.

It seriously makes zero sense to me. I understand wanting to be close to the city center, but things are getting way out of hand. If I was ever going to pay $1000 or more in rent I would just buy the damn place and make it a mortgage payment instead. At least that way I can actually gain some equity.

What makes everyone think Vandy is better than MTSU? I'm not so sure I agree with that.

I consider Vandy to be better than MTSU in talent alone. In coaching, experience, and motivation, I give the edge to MTSU. Stockstill is a smart guy. He'll have the team ready to play. He knows what a marquee victory like that could mean to his program and probably his job.

I agree Vandy has the edge on talent. Its not by a whole lot though. The lack of talent on offense and the lack of depth everywhere at Vanderbilt is staggering. Plus its only getting worse.

Man, my wife would hate you...

because you sound exactly like me. Drives her insane that I look at stuff from that perspective.
