The Golf Thread

can get some great high kick point x flex shafts for much less money. The popular flavor of the day is marketing shenanigans. The VS Proto in the x is more than plenty for the vast, vast majority of heavy hitters.

Yea a lot of it is marketing & there are cheaper shafts just as good as the high dollar ones. But if you can find a deal on one of the expensive ones then go for it.

so at the risk of sounding like a weakling to all you long hitters, I have a Titleist 910 D3 with a stock Mitsubishi Diamana Kai'li 65g Mid stiff shaft. I hit it about 250-260 in the air and get about 20 yards of roll. This shaft has the perfect trajectory for me imo. I tend to not always get through it all the time which causes it to fade left some, but nothing that gets me into too much trouble. What would some good upgrade options be for me? My swing speed is around 108.

If you like what you hit, you'd be silly to upgrade.

And that I agree with. I've hit the Cleveland Launcher for years. I have tried to switch a couple of times. My handicap goes up, and I go back to it. It's probably 4 yr old technology. It just feels different in my hands than the Taylor Made, Titleist, etc.
The launcher and the Adams are comfortable to me.

i like it, I don't love it. I just know the trajectory is perfect. If there are better shafts out there, I'm game to look into it more I guess is what I'm saying.

Without getting on a machine, I'd stick with what I know. If you can get on the analyzer, it'll hook you up with optimal spin and limited side spin with some good launch characteristics. It's awesome. I wouldn't pull the trigger on an expensive shaft until that thing proved it for me.

fair enough. My previous Titleist had an after market shaft and I was extremely consistent with that baby. Now with the upgrade, I've gained considerable distance, but lost a lot of consistency.

I reshafted my Driver last week with a UST Prolaunch Classic 65. Same shaft I've used in my 3 wood for years. Cost me all of $35 and I gained about 10 yards of carry. I'm sure there's better technology out there, but something about that shaft just works for me.

That's where I am. I put the VS Proto hybrid model in my hybrid and the flight was money. I put it in my 3 wood and it acted similarly. I don't give a crap that it isn't the sexy new rig. It works for me and is predictable.

I hate being so naive about golf equipment, shafts and heads, etc and feel like a ritard asking questions. It's just a game I didn't start until I was almost 30 and at 42, I'm better than I ever have been, but need to know a lot more. I mentioned I keep just regripping my same driver. Honestly, it's a Cleveland and stiff shaft, but I don't even know which model or the name. I don't want to screw up the feel and my confidence, but don't need to give up yards or speed, especially at my age after @ 15 surgeries. How the hell do I know what to upgrade to? I don't trust the golf galaxy dudes, and I don't have to time to dive in and study. I just know that some sticks feel good and some don't.

You've got to find somebody you trust and let them do a club fitting for you. Otherwise you're just spending money.

I don't know nearly as much about equipment as I did 10 years ago. Honestly, I'm always slightly suspicious of amateur golfers when they talk about how great anything is.

I've got a decent idea what works for me and I've got an 80 year old that likes to piddle that I let put stuff together for me.

Well, it's Cleveland DST launcher 10.5
Diamana shaft, s flex, 44 v sl (i don't know what that means)
shaft also says Mitsubishi Rayon.

Sounds like maybe a redboard which is a low kick high launching shaft. Or it could be a "made for" shaft for Cleveland for that particular club. Regardless Mitsubishi makes some of the best shafts.

Haha. I meant compared to other clubs. I am 6'5 280 though. My swing speed jumped 5 mph with the RBZ.

Not too light to be honest. It feels solid to me. I struggle off the tee typically but am getting solid with this. 12/14 fairways saturday . One miss was just off and the other was my patented block out of bounds.

I hear ya. I went into my fitting really wanting that driver. Ended up buying the Razr Fit. It just had more weight to it to me and I hit it so much more consistently.

Did it feel really light weight to you?

you can get a stick in whatever weight you want and use lead tape to get to the swing weight you want. The non TP style stuff is heavily geared toward the lighter side now because it results in a couple MPH more speed for people. Just understand that with the lighter comes some quirky looking dispersion patterns.

83 today. 3 bad swings on the front led to btb doubles. Getting closer, but this course is so tough. Thinking I'd be shooting 77-78 at a muni, but a bad drive in the wrong place means a lost ball in 4 ft high grass and hitting 3 off the tee. Did it twice. Damn 5 feet from the fairway.

I realize this. Was just stating the difference I noticed in the RBZ and the other "sticks".

Been in Hilton Head all week and I forgot my golf clubs. Not happy with myself. :banghead2:

They'll rent you a set of pretty decent sticks at every one of those courses.

If I had the first clue who you were I'd tell you where the spare key to my Dads condo was and you could play with my old Ping Zings that I leave down there for just such a circumstance . . . but I don't think Dad would understand. :)
