The Golf Thread

Just watched Northwestern beat Stanford for NCAA Women's golf championship. Their putting ritual is absolutely unwatchable. It goes on and on, repeating the same study of the green multiple times. It's like they are doing everything they can to avoid actually hitting the ball. Glad PGA or LPGA golfers don't do this. They wouldn't have any audience.

Few of the ones who were lucky enough to get out earlier today at Oakmont advantage. Greens were receptive the early part of the morning. At one point there were 14 under par, that number has trickled down to just 6 now that we are hitting the afternoon hours.

It’ll balance out by the end.

Today was brutal. Farragut's own Lance Simpson posted a respectable +4 yesterday but isn't going to make the cut.

WTH did Burns have for breakfast today???

He’s probably still chocking from whatever he had last Sunday. He played good today though.

Scottie is pretty incredible. Some dominant wins this year. Would be really cool to see him keep this up for a few years and etch his name up there with woods and Nicklaus. Seems to have his head on straight too.
I'm always hesitant to do the "if he keeps this up he'll go down as one of the all-time greats" thing because sports are unpredictable, but he does seem to have the mental make-up for this. The run he's been on since 2022 and particularly his 2024 and 2025 seasons are one of the best 3-4 year runs in the history of golf. In just the 16 majors, he has 4 wins and 12 top 10s. Just one MC.

Rory was in this same position in 2014 (had 4 majors, was the best player in the game, and was actually younger than Scottie at 25) and then didn't win another major for 11 years. I don't think he's as mentally tough as Scottie and had a lot of personal distractions though.
