The Golf Thread

Why watch every 6 inch putt by Tiger when there are others on the course playing good golf? I'd rather watch him fall in the pond.

If you watched today most of the guys that were getting coverage were in contention & playing good golf. Tiger plays a lot of good golf & is in contention a lot. Even when he's not he's gonna get some coverage because he's the best golfer ever. Just the way it is.

Lee Jansen DQ'd from a US Open qualifier for having metal spikes. Don't know why he'd have them, and rules are rules, but golf has some big 'cmon man!?' Moments

agreed...I thought Pro's could still wear spikes
Wasn't there a dust up between Phil and Vijay over metal spike marks a couple of years ago

Tiger still does. If it is a course rule it is usually waived for PGA tournaments.

Tiger doesn't wear metal spikes. Local rules vary & apparently were diffferent at various qualifying sites. Janzen failed to read the rules sheet.

I see metal. Sorry for such a large pic.

If its metal maybe he switched back. He said not too long ago he didn't need metal with the new shoes & non metal was easier on his knee.

My choice of the 2 would be the JPX 800’s. They have been used less & the cost is less with an OBO. The combos have extensions in shafts. Personally don’t like that as it makes the club butt heavy. The face & soles have more wear. Not terrible but more than what you’re comparing to. For $440 + $100 for the irons & wedges is too high. Most used wedges in good condition can be had for between $30 - $45 on Craigslist. Hope this helps

It does help. Thanks for the advice. I am not getting wedges just an iron set. I'm happy with the wedges I have

I actually tested both those irons when I switched 6 months ago. I picked the 800s mainly because I rarely practice anymore and felt like I didn't have to work as hard to hit them. I'm still trying to adjust to the increased iron distances.

About that . . . Be sure to check the PW loft vs the GW that you have. I had to actually retool and put a 50* Vokey in the bag because the 800s have the PW lofted at 44*. The 2* deloft along with a hot face made the gap between a smooth PW and a smooth SW about 30 yards for me.

What were you hitting before the 800's? What 800's you have?

Was hitting an old set of Callaway X-16 Pros that I had been playing for 9 years. Now hitting the regular JPX-800s.

The regular 800s are probably a little too far to the game improvement side for me, but I tested a bunch of stuff and kept going back to them. My swing specs and the irons I ended up with were a complete surprise to me.

Age can do a number on a golf swing! :)

Has anyone played the Cobra Amps? I was looking through my Groupon app and saw they had a deal for an graphite iron set 4-GW 45% off for a total of $399.

I have a set of Adams from high school that have seen their better days.

Thanks for help
