The Golf Thread

I'm evidently a terrible racist. I make this joke all the time to my Commander and 1SG, who are both black and I work directly for since they've moved me to the Orderly/Operations Room. I guess it's slightly different because my Commander and 1SG are there for the joke, but sometimes I just think people are way too sensitive.

FWIW, both of them eat chicken routinely. I'm fairly certain my 1SG eats it 90% of the time. I do as well, but I don't know why people have to push things so heavy.

Difference is, you know theses guys, and also you all are in the military, which sort of provides a fraternal type atmosphere.

If one of my buddies cracks that joke I may smile to avoid making a scene, but I'm surprised they cracked a joke like that. If a stranger cracks that, then I am pretty offended.

Sorry to pull us ot. So let be ask a golf question. Do they sell long/extra long clubs in incomplete sets? I'm new to the game and I don't want to spend a lot on something I may not like, so I would like a set with just the woods and a few irons.

I think you would have to special order clubs. FWIW, irons are cheap as hell compared to woods. My driver was $350. My 3H was $250. My entire set of irons were $230.

Also, if you're trying to learn the game, I wouldn't worry with woods. The only clubs you need to worry about for a little while are your driver (or a 3 wood off the tee), 7 iron, and 9 iron. You'll want longer irons, because you won't always be in range of the 7, but focus on those clubs.

Not trying to start something here, just an honest question. Do you really like chicken? I know it's a stereotype and I absolutely love chicken myself, but I find the stereotype is true just about always. I personally don't see why people put such negative connotations to it. Fwiw, I also love a mess of collard greens, watermelon and purple drink. I also take being called a country bumpkin, hillbilly, etc with pride too.

I'm a tall golfer and all my clubs are an inch over standard. You can order them that way or have standard clubs extended. Either way will get the job done. If you're going new might as well order them the correct length.

You honestly believe that Sergio thought this would be perceived as a joke?

Wonder how Sergio would answer.

The stat is often used to show that long/belly putters have somehow suddenly gained some kind advantage that has propelled them to major championship victories, despite the fact guys have been using them for many years prior to the last 1.5.

Jeez, you're completely ignoring the absolute fact that more guys are using them now and within the last few years than ever in the history of the game. Try not to recognize that tho...

One of my professors at UT called me a spic once. I thought it was hilarious actually.

He was a cool dude though, and it was a pretty fun class.

I am half Mexican so I get made fun of that a lot. Doesn't really bother me. I simply ignore it at this point.

What the hell does that have to do with anything?

Tiger has won 4 of the last 7 he's played not using one. Better ban his putter.

I do, but it would be very rude to assume that I like something just because the color of my skin.

Cool, thank you for the tip.

Is GolfSmith the best place to look for equipment?

I probably wont be able to buy the stuff for quite some time since I need to be careful with my money at the moment. I played a bit when I was a kid and hated it, it was super frustrating. I've grown a bit more patient as I've grown older, and a lot of my friends and people in my line of work play golf, so I am curious about giving it another go.

Might be better off looking on Craigslist. Most play it again stuff is OEM "copies" & the name brand OEM stuff is way overpriced.

I had an appointment cancel today so I went back and talked to the guy who did my fitting. Turns out I'm hitting the ball very close to the heel of the club. We bumped them up 2 degrees and I hit then dead center. The shaft I have currently is the lowest launching and stiffest I can get in an iron. So basically the rest is my swing causing the higher launch angle. We decided I'm standing a little close to the ball so I backed up a little and my launch angle improved. I scheduled a lesson once we get back from Disney to dial it in a little more.
