It is stated in vid "no. 2 QB" if this so, then who and what is the no. 1? Lord, he must be beyond description. Now, I have said this before, no doubt Harrison is really good, but he can not be much better than the guys catching the ball. Some of the passes caught in this vid,,, go get his receivers. The best throwing qbs are not too good without really good ball catchers!

That goes both ways. The best catching receivers aren't very effective with a quarterback who can put the ball on them,

I think a lot of it will depend on how long it takes Bailey to adapt to the speed of the game. D1 DBs close throwing windows a whole lot faster than HS DBs.

JG can be good...but waaay too inconsistent. The bowl game was prime example. Did NOTHING the whole game then did just enough...with a lot of help...at the end to eke out the win. He still rifles ridiculous fast balls that no one can catch...overthrows...etc....just not want you need for the next level.

Meh...everyone was gushing about JG, too. Until the kid gets on the field at this level and shows it, I'll hold off on the hype.
Best route to take. Even Peyton wasn't impressive as a freshman in the 1st 5-6 games he played in. Just the nature of the beast in the SEC with these good defensive coordinators. Takes about1/2 season to find your rythym and get comfortable. Maurer might have made it had he managed to get 5 straight games in but his rythym never got established. As good as HB can potentially be, I doubt he will come out smoking. Might be in his best interest and UT's to red-shirt both him and Holiday.

He was 1st or 2nd rated DT quarterback because the class was small.
Exactly. JG was only a four-star. Granted, Bailey hasn't had that fifth star for long, but he should have had it all along. Also, if I recall correctly, JG's high school stats did not remotely approach those of Bailey's.

After watching the video, I'm thinking in another direction......I think Coach Pruitt needs to hire Bailey's quarterback coach!

Based on that video, it appears Bailey's quarterback coach certainly puts emphasis, even ingrains, sound fundamentals and technique.....and I like fundamentals and technique much more than the "just let him play" strategy.

You can watch any qb go though their mechanics in practice settings and compare it to game mechanics and see two different things. The “just let him play” strategy is going to happen anyway because it happens naturally once the pads start popping. Taking the argument even farther no 2 qbs mechanics are the same. So who’s right and who’s wrong? Who do we look at as the bar? If we claim Drew Brees has the best mechanics (because that’s what he’s known for) does that mean Tom Brady is wrong? Pat Mahommes, Aaron Rodgers and the league MVP Lamar Jackson made their names on flawed mechanics because they make it work. Under pressure a qb can’t always use perfect throwing mechanics so therefore, as those above have shown, being able to throw “off platform” is just as, if not more valuable than a qb that relies on perfect form. That’s why I personally agree with Weinke. The first time you ever picked up a rock and threw it in a lake.....that’s your throwing motion. All you can do as a qb coach is “tweak” what they bring naturally.

Pretty much said the same thing about JG. He was 1st or 2nd rated qb in nation.

Let's wait till fall practice. I've learned the hard way, don't believe all the hype.
With all the intangibles that HB has, I believe his success rate is through the roof. The kid has been working his game at a professional level since 7th grade, maybe before.

Gotta be honest was expecting to see something about Kelly Washington when I opened this thread. He's gotta be close to getting social security now

I’m more interested in this kid’s leadership and decision making ability than his raw mechanics. Seems like that might be even better based on what I’ve seen.

Amen to that. Look at Jim Furyk's mechanics. Works for him.

He didn’t do anything at the end after literally being THE reason why we were losing the game with his awful play. He was “good” in 3.5 of the 13 games he played in last year. Huge mistake not telling him to move on and having him still on the 2020 roster.

JG threw less than 20 td passes in his high school career. Ran for virtually nothing in terms of yards and tds as well. No earthly idea how he was rated anywhere near that high given how he performed vs bad New Jersey high school kids. And of course, it was a foreshadowing of what has come about at Tennessee. He had some good moments in 2018, especially vs Auburn and Kentucky....but last year was a disaster

Congrats, I've never seen a Vol fan say something like this. Do you feel better? Just tell me how this is going to help things and I'll apologize and leave you alone. Your hate for a TN player is despicable. 14...

Amen to that. Look at Jim Furyk's mechanics. Works for him.

Apples and Oranges Dude- Furyk get's away with it because a 300 lb angry D Lineman isn't trying to kill him. Mechanics for a QB are very important. Look at Tim Tebow's slow delivery. Does not work. Throwing mechanics matter greatly .

Put headphones on or turn up computer, your going to qant to see and hear this-

I’ll say it again...Bailey will be the starting QB at some point this season. Maybe Game 1. Maybe Game 6. It just depends on how quickly he picks up the nuances of Chaney’s offense. But he is, by far, the best QB on the team.

A truly elite QB can make average WR's look like super stars. See Peyton Mannings career with the Colts.

some mechanics more important than others also. look at the sidewinders that are making it in NFL that sling it sideways while running for their life from the 300 lb dl..

Mahomes and the qb at Houston don't appear to have the best mechanics in the world.
