Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

Pearl wouldn't have made the tourney with last year's team either. His final year the team went 19-15 and was close to bubble. They lost a good class of seniors and Tobias Harris. I don't believe Pearl's style would've worked with last year's team. And I'm a Pearl fan. I'm glad Cuonzo is our coach, and I think he'll be successful. But I'd still like to have things the way they were with Pearl as the coach. With that said, he couldn't have coached last year's team any better than Zo.

Lying to NCAA investigators during an investigation is against the rules.

It also shows a lack of institutional control, which can lead to much more than the dismissal of a coach.

That is more semantics than anything bc we are both pretty much saying the same thing.......I actually gained more respect for pearl after the investigation. I bought into what others were saying on here about how dirty pearl was but the investigators tried everything they could dig up on pearl and they found nothing. Pearl has my respect.for.that and for his behavior and support since his departure.

It would not have been the same team. Scotty was coming back and a 20 point scorer would have made a big difference.

I honestly forgot about Scotty when I posted. It's true that if he'd stayed the team may have performed better...better chance than not. On the other hand, it's hard to say how Pearl would've utilized Maymon (see Steven Pearl). Who knows what Stokes' decision would've been (I realize that Pearl was in with Stokes, but given Stokes' early enrollment situation, it's tough to say that he would've made the same decision to come to UT). You'd also have to think that Kevin Ware would've been here, and I doubt he would've contributed immediately in the same way that his replacement (in my mind) Josh Richardson did as part of Cuonzo's first class. Richardson was effective on defense as a true Freshman. Don't know that ware would've done much other than take bad shots as an inexperienced freshman. Still no Chris Jones either way. No Yemi, Miller, Q, or Washpun, but they didn't significantly contribute anyway. Pearl would've probably gotten better recruits in for those spots (Scotty and Tobias were still on the roster as of Pearl's firing, thus no immediate scholarship openings).

Tough to say either way, but IMO, Cuonzo's style would've performed better than a team under Pearl's style given the same personnel. Last year's team needed defense to fall back on. They didn't have the offense to compete the way they did without being able to first rely on solid defense. Same situation this year.

Funny how certain people only want to remember Pearl's last year, but seem to forget the excitement and success the Vols had in his previous years.

No I won't STFU.....I'll express my view and opinion and your little punkass can't and won't do a damn thing about it.....

Internet tough guy eh?

Just trying to understand what it is you want. You say, he won't make a tourney, well he may make a tounrey this year but wont go far, but well he's probably NIT bound. Pick a horse and stick with it, that's all.

If you think he can't get us to the tourney just say it, that way when he does you were clearly and easily proven wrong.

Not an Internet tough guy....will gladly meet ya to prove it...I don't hide my appearance....

I'm saying if he does get us to the tourney we will not go far....and the NIT every year will not suffice....he doesn't instill the confidence in me that Pearl did that he is capable of taking us to no.1 and certainly not an elite 8 run

You could prob understand my posts better if you could get your head out of Martins ass....

So if Martin makes a sweet 16 you'll be on board?

I'm just trying to clarify what it is he needs to do to gain your approval.

So, you want Martin to do what only one other coach in the history of UT basketball has ever done or he doesn't gain your approval? That seems fair.

I think it's obvious you don't follow basketball for a reason.

What I don't understand is why people don't wait and GIVE OUR COACH A CHANCE. If he fails at the end of the year or next then we can discuss it. People just have no patience these days. Our world is going to you know what.

CCM did not have an easy job last year with no returning starters. They improved as the year went and let's see what they do this year. If our fans had to root for Josh Pastner they would have run him out of town by now with his record against ranked teams. Kind of funny that UT fans are making fun if him in another thread in this forum. Just be patient and see what happens.

That's because the average fan is clueless when it comes to UT sports and sports in general. They don't follow it, but they can log in and post their uninformed opinion because that is the easy and lazy thing to do.
