Tennessee Softball 2025

I’ve noticed in the last few days people are taking notice of what we are not doing for karlyn that have very low attachment to the program.
It's right there for everyone to see......we don't give Karlyn run support. I don't believe it's on purpose but it cannot be denied with a straight face. All Kar's losses have been that way. It happened last year too but we also had Gotshall and better hitters which got us to hosting the supers but this year.....it feels different. It feels like everyone has us figured out like they know our plays before hand. I believe we should be in the top 8 but I can see where we could fall out of hosting based on recency.

Hope you are right. Morrison has changed position this year and she is now the shortstop which she will go where Mealer is and looks like Clark will be on first or in the catcher position. Would not surprise to see Faw transfer and Rodriquis head back home.
Highly rated of course we've seen that before. Number two class in the country. Need to go out and find three or more players that can hit SEC pitching that is where the NIl money if we have any should go. Morrison a shortstop well we need one of them as well.

Any guesses as to what teams will be paired with Tennessee for Regionals?

Two thoughts:

1) Regionals : I think there are a group of teams that given their likely seeding on the S-curve (yes I know the NCAA allegedly "doesn't use a S curve in Softball"...whatever man) and geographic proximity to Knoxville (regional busing rule under 400 miles) are likely to make up the field in Knoxville with Tennessee as the national 8 seed. In my view Ohio State is probably the lock as the "2 seed" in the Knoxville regional--outside shot of Liberty. Liberty can likely be put at Duke, Virginia Tech, Clemson, or SC and bus. Ohio State in Knoxville means 2 teams can bus and Knoxville is the only possible location they can bus to. Opposite Ohio State I think it will likely be UNC or Georgia Tech. The first round game for Tennessee likely against Chattanooga, Dayton, or Miami (OH) pending conference tournaments. I kind of expect it to be Dayton or Miami because given Chattanooga's location they can be put in multiple sites within 400 miles whereas Miami and Dayton basically only have Knoxville available.

2) Super Regionals : As I said I think Tennessee will be the 8 seed with A&M, Florida, OU, FSU, Arkansas, UCLA, and Texas being the other 7. Contrary to the national media naysayers ESPN does put their thumb on the scale in these tournaments within reason because after all they want to make money. So with that in mind they like 2 things--geographic/conference diversity and story lines. I think those two factors in mind I fully expect LSU to be opposite Tennessee regardless of our seed. One, it eliminates a SEC team from OKC and two it gives the story, Karlyn Pickens and her speed, a shot at OKC because LSU sucks at offense as much as we do. We're both in the same range of RPI so it wouldn't be egregious to move them around to any seed 9-11 opposite us.

I will say that we seem to have some very strong freshmen hitters coming into the program next season. Of course they are freshmen, but I look for about three of them to play a lot. If we get in the portal for three or four more strong hitters we could really turn this thing around at the plate. Barnhart .537 in high school we would take .350 in college which is better than almost the entire team now. Holley .588 in high school. Looks like Morrison is the sure fire top choice to take the catching job. Combine these players with Pannell, the Leach twins, Clarke and Morgan could be an effective team at the plate. All depends on the portal of course three strong players from there would make us look really good for next season.
Pitching will be stronger and deeper next season just have to be able to put some runs up that is where the team is failing.

With players coming in, that means some will be leaving…some told and others by choice. The pitching staff will look different regardless and not by adding but losing. I don’t see all staying and as mentioned before Karen likes 5 as her number.

Regular season Karen does it again great regular season struggle in the postseason. Hopefully can straighten it out but have seen this movie before and the cry is always wait till the new players get here. Hope I am wrong but u have to have some hitting to back a generational pitcher hope we don't waste her. If I wrong I will eat crow.

One thing I have noticed on the post game interviews is the batters having a plan looking for certain pitches. Ours just talk about process no specifics that goes back to the hitting coach.
