Tee Hodge In Transfer Portal

That’s a load of crap. Every kid on a football team (every team, not just UT) has the opportunity to earn the starting spot if they are good enough. It’s simply a matter of significantly outshining every other guy at your position. Not everyone can do that, and it has absolutely nothing to do with kids being lied to or given the wrong impression by coaches. I have no issue with this kid transferring.

I love how Volnation posters just make stuff up. It’s like they think they’re interviewing for a position in the media.

So you don’t think there are recruits that are recruited to add depth?

When was the last time that we had a player from metro Knoxville stay and play and make a huge impact for us?

So you don’t think there are recruits that are recruited to add depth?
That’s a ridiculous question. If guys weren’t recruited to add depth to a team, then teams would have 24 players - offensive starters, defensive starters, a kicker and a punter. Do I think coaches recruit players with 100% knowledge that the player will never have any chance to be a starter? No. Coaches have nowhere near that level of ability to accurately project players’ ability. Coaching staffs recruit as many players as they can with the highest level of ability they can succesfully recruit, and then they let competition sort things out.

When kids transfer after a year of not getting to play, I don’t blame the kid. I blame whoever lied to them in the recruiting process and told them they were going to compete for a starting spot

So you tell a kid he has a chance to compete for a starting spot. Then the kid cannot earn the starting spot. So you blame the coach that recruited him? Yeah that makes total sense.

He’s not cracked the top 4, perhaps not the top 5, at this point. UT will continue to recruit as well as they can. He will never get opportunity at UT. A good personal decision by Tee, not a negative reflection of his character or that of his generation.

I hate to lose him. I always like to have local kids on the team be successful. I don’t blame him, but at his size I’m guessing he wouldn’t be getting a lot of carries. I was hoping he’d be getting touches near the goal line. Best of luck to him

There is some truth to that. Maryville kids are system players which works well for a team concept but college is based more on talent. As I posted in another thread I can not think of many examples where Maryville kids are successful in major college programs.
You mean Alabama isn’t Heritage?

That’s sad. I wish the kid the best of luck, but it’s kind of sad that we’ve reached a point where if adversity strikes the first move now is to run from it and find a place where you’ll be able to hide from it.
Yea, but if you’re that far down the depth chart and you have the self realization that you’re never going to play (maybe at this level), and you want to play, not just stay for scholarship then you gotta go

Tee Hodge was soundly beaten out in camp by a true freshman who was also a three star.

Maybe it's as simple as he isn't good enough to play. This year or any other year.
People need to realize that not every player is going to play. Just because he doesn’t play doesn’t mean he’s not a decent player. It just means we have better players at least 3 deep ahead of him. That’s not a bad thing

What if Travis Stephens had said, "I don't want to play behind Jamal", and transferred out. No Gator Killer night in the Swamp. Yeah, kids today need instant gratification.
Not the same.

Stephens was 3rd in his 2nd year. Then 1st 2nd or co-starter after Jamal got hurt.

Hodge is possibly 6th with a true freshman and two classmates ahead of him.

It’s almost like the coaching and quality of high school football played in Tennessee isn’t as high as other states.

All you need to do is go to almost any middle TN school and you will witness this. I can only compare OH to TN high school football but the coaching here is piss poor.

5th string but still young. People give up too easy

Tee doesn't strike me as a quitter.

Coaches may have encouraged to look around.

ONE thing I'm a bit worried about with Heupel...he doesn't seem to value power backs. He seems to put a premium on speed and quickness even over size.

His RBs at UCF averaged 180 lbs.
Now his top 3 backs here are the 3 smallest ones on scholarship. Small, Wright are at 200 lbs. Evans is probably 215 but they look at him as a "power back". Everytime they have said that in interviews about Evans i kind of pause. 215-220 isn't little...but it's not exactly a "power back" anymore. Evans is fast though....that's the difference between he and Hodge.

But Hodge was still a versatile body and weapon to have on offense.
Not happy about this departure.
