Tee Hodge In Transfer Portal

If he transfers now, can he play this year at the new school?
All depends on the drop/add deadline at the new school and if he can get admitted and registered for classes that quickly.

Would be a lot to get accomplished in a very short period of time.

No one wants to wait for there turn.
Or maybe he realized there was unlikely to be a turn, certainly a significant one, so he decided to go somewhere that a turn was more likely. Is there anything wrong with that? Do we blame assistant coaches who take other jobs instead of “waiting there turn?”
Would we blame an employee that got passed over for a promotion to a co-worker of the same age and experience for looking at a new employer?
Of course we wouldn’t. It always bothers me that people on this board blame the student athletes for seeking something that may make them happier.
Just seems childish to me.

I don't know that anyone lied to him. We just recruited too many RBs. It was inevitable that some of them were going to leave after not winning spots in the rotation. And Hodge was a much better fit with Pruitt's offense than Heupel's.

The more shocking thing to me is that Whitehead still hasn't moved over to LB. Somehow, he's decided it's better to be a 6th string RB than potentially start or be in the 2-deep at LB.

“Lied to” may have been a bit harsh, but the truth remains that many of these kids are being recruited for depth but are given the impression that they are a key piece to the team’s success. But I guess it’s hard to get talent by selling depth

I thought the NCAA put a deadline (like July 1) for portal transfers to be eligible for the upcoming season. I could be wrong though.

This is what all the people clamoring about transfers wanted. This is the new normal for college sports. Any time, any reason. All the talking heads who swore it wouldn’t change things knew too, they just didn’t care because talking about transfers is one more thing they can spin to get clicks and ad revenue.
Yep, everyone just needs to get used to it. If a kid doesn’t start or get the playing time he thinks he should, he gone. There is going to be a lot of turnover every year and you might as well get ready for it. Another reason why college sports is really starting to resemble the pros and why it is losing some appeal for me. I’ll still watch but I don’t schedule my Saturdays around it anymore.

Totally. Same thing I've said from the start of this change - I can put a lot of support behind young folks who love Tennessee (where I grew up) and want to represent her in sports against other regional rivals while growing up and earning degrees. I can relate to that. But when they can come and go, that's fine for them, I won't spend time getting all worked up about it, but there's just not as much of a reason to invest when it's all temporary.

That’s a load of crap. Every kid on a football team (every team, not just UT) has the opportunity to earn the starting spot if they are good enough. It’s simply a matter of significantly outshining every other guy at your position. Not everyone can do that, and it has absolutely nothing to do with kids being lied to or given the wrong impression by coaches. I have no issue with this kid transferring.

I love how Volnation posters just make stuff up. It’s like they think they’re interviewing for a position in the media.

I’m afraid you’re correct. Worried about HB jumping ship.
Yeah, based on the fall camp reports about his accuracy, it doesn't seem like he is long for here. I think that he will move on especially with Tayven Jackson coming in next year.

with the new rules, why not just wait til after that the season? He will be immediately eligible for next season regardless.
Good point. Stay through the season and use the time to get better and stronger. And you never know what might happen

That’s sad. I wish the kid the best of luck, but it’s kind of sad that we’ve reached a point where if adversity strikes the first move now is to run from it and find a place where you’ll be able to hide from it.
What point is Oklahoma at? They have two scholarship RBs.

Marcus Pierce has been lauded by Coach Mack and Golesh. That’s his scholarship.

And I’ll add the basketball situation with the NIL to this discussion. It hasn’t been around for a season yet and it’s already out of hand. Look at Memphis. You got two guys coming in who supposedly are getting big bucks from a company to play for a year instead of going to the G League. And we aren’t talking pocket change from a pizza place. Go one semester, take Underwater Basket Weaving, play ball and pocket a couple of hundred G’s. Good gig if you can get it I reckon. Personally I find it difficult to root for thinly disguised mercenaries and another reason that my interest in college sports is waning. Just call it pro sports and be done with the sham.

This younger generation wants everything immediately
And only the position they wanted to play. In my day, I just wanted to be on the field. Offense, Defense, Special teams, heck, I'll run the water out.

When kids transfer after a year of not getting to play, I don’t blame the kid. I blame whoever lied to them in the recruiting process and told them they were going to compete for a starting spot
Coaches will always paint a beautiful picture of how a recruits college career will go if they sign with them, but when they're told they will compete for the starting job that's the truth so don't feel to sorry for them, we just had spring practice and now preseason camp if Hodge had showed something he would've been in the mix but he didn't so he's not. It's not always about lies as much as ability or effort from the athlete

Hard to blame him. It's very very obvious that he's going to get little to no playing time here for the foreseeable future.

I could see getting on him if he were in contention, but he's so far down the depth chart that it won't happen.

Good luck young man.
