As long as the DL stays disciplined and takes care of their gaps, Jumper will do fine for the runs between the tackles. We will play a 4-3. It's critical the will and sam LBs take care of the off tackle runs. The safeties will also have a huge role in supporting the LBs. We'll be fine. There'll be instances where our discipline breaks down, but I think it will few and far between.
the few actual relevant knocks that have ever been brought up about Jumper have been in the pass coverage phase of the game. Our linebackers will have little to no pass coverage responsibilities vs GT.With a run heavy team like GT he will have a good game.

Well sort of...I expect Gaulden plays what we used to call a rover or monster man back in the day. So if you want to call Gaulden a LB for a day then yes 4-3.![]()
I was thinking Nickel as well for our base. That might not be the case. I think Gaulden and our Safeties will get the glory from the battlefield.
I'm not worried about Jumper, he's been tested already.
#53, Colton Jumper could be UT's MLB for a while. So, I thought it would be good to take a look at his potential. Can he be good, or even great at the position?
After watching his highlights from 2016, I believe CJ has the potential to be very effective at the MLB position.
Thoughts?
our base defense for all intents and purposes is a nickle.w/out it being confirmed, i think it was discussed by the coaches a week or so ago that in this game, we probalby would see "a lot" of nickel. they want sure tacklers and guys that can set an edge. rely on the MLB and DL to play their guy and make those tackles in the middle of the field.
agree, safeties in run support, and nickel will be a big part of the defense.
i also thought i saw where we were going to play zone coverages outside. which is a bit odd for shoop, that's not what he likes to do, rather a reaction to the offensive style we're facing. then pick your spots to be aggressive and bring pressure.
i think we're gonna have to show a little patience with the defense in this game. they're gonna get yards. and it will likely be a little frustrating at times.
Guys that keep pointing to Florida last year, 9 took over that game. Jump may have accidentally made a couple plays, buts let's be honest, Barnett was too much. I'm going to sit down and break down Jump's film to illustrate all the flaws in his game. Namely, the fact he's the only MLB I've ever seen UT play to consistently be within 3 yards of a tackle and never make one. Also if you're in your 5th year in the program and you're meh at best it's time to let the young talent play. Give me Ignont, or Bituli, or flip Coleman to MLB from o-line. I'm just tired of watching him FCS it up and everyone defending him.
