Taking a Look at #53

Didn't Jumper get an interception, cause a fumble, and break up a pass play in the end zone at Florida last year?

I'm not sure why there's all this hate for CJ on here. He has earned his spot on the roster because of his ability, per the coaches.

Anything said about him on a message board is irrelevant.

I remember pro football focus having Jumper graded as the highest out of all our defensive players at 84.4 in the A&M game

He was also our highest rated defensive player against Florida with an 86.3

Love him or hate him, he gives his all

A lot of people seem to bring up plays jumper missed, as if the rest of our guys never had a bust. Some of our "athletic" guys were outrun, pushed around, and out of place last season. The last thing I want to do is run down any of our guys, but some are watching with rose colored glasses if you think Jumper's level of play was any worse than our "scholarship" guys.

No he wouldnt. he wouldn't see a snap at Florida, Bama, Auburn, LSU, or any other team who consistently win a lot of games. The fact he hasn't been recruited over is laughable.

Jumper's good enough to play SEC football and he'll have a good game against Ga Tech.....wait and see

Jumper may even recover a fumble or two:)

Go Vols

I hope so. I want him to be Ray Lewis I just think the fact he's getting playing time shows how much we have fallen.

I totally agree with everything you're saying. The fact that in year 5 that Butch and thigpen have not recruited over jumper speaks volumes on the recruiting/development at the LB position. I would understand the other end of the argument if jumper was putting up all conference numbers but he's not. It really has all to do with Butch, thigpen and the other LB's that can't play over a try hard

You know, we are an SEC team.

And he's probably gonna start on Monday.

So does that mean he WOULD start for any SEC team? And that he IS SEC quality?

I'm thinking yes, to both of those.

I'm also thinking our coaches know a hell of a lot more about SEC talent levels than any of us here in VolNation. And they're the ones picking him to start over all the other options.

Hmm....

Well the other options are either right out of HS or have injury problems themselves.

I wonder how many critics will be willing to eat crow after the game. Never mind, most will point to a missed tackle or assignment regardless of how well he plays.

Well, I sincerely hope you are dead wrong, but we will have to wait and see.

My intuition is that he will show significant improvement due to being a senior and the new conditioning program.

Well he WAS a senior. Till the NCAA decided he could just be a junior again instead. So this is his second junior season. He will be a senior again next year.

GT-- run heavy, so he will be fine with his surrounding cast...
Indiana St-- fine
FL-- don't think they won't go at him and try and find his weakness
UMASS- fine
GA-- if heavy run with Chubb and Co, he may be okay, but if they start passing we are in trouble unless our corners have improved.
SC-- hopefully Kirkland is back.

Great post. I think Jumper is fine atleast until GA. Hopefully Kirkland is back then or one of the youngsters are ready by then.

wouldn't start for any SEC team. I'm sure he works hard but he isn't SEC quality imo.

I can only assume by SEC quality you mean athletically because there's SOOOOO much more to playing Mike than athletic....that's where he excels without question....we are so fortunate to have him an option....

I'm sure you realize in last years Florida game he made three plays that without them we lose that game. But I agree that Florida will try to challenge him and the MOST IMPORTANT factor in that game would be the health of the front four....

By Florida Bituli has to be playing good. This is his second year and things should start to click. Especially with more meaningful snaps. Hopefully he is playing good by the start of the year.

CJ will probably be the guy to start and will get snaps no matter who is healthy.

He really wouldn't. They wouldn't even give him a uniform at Alabama, but then again neither would Tony Thompson, Darryl Dickey, Dale Jones, or Jeff Powell. Here's hoping we see the next great legendary chapter in Vol history.
