What part about that post was false? Vandy made us look like middle schoolers. We were not very physical this past year. Way too many injuries and we aren’t big and strong enough. We need a much better S&C coach.
Vandy simply whipped our butts. All S&C coaches basically do the same crap just like all assistants. The difference in being good and bad all lies at the feet of the HC.

Yes, Vandy did whip Tennessee but all Strength and Conditioning coaches don't do the same thing and neither do assistants. The difference in being a great team is having great schemes on both sides of the ball with the right players to execute the schemes and the right S&C to whip our guys in to tip top shape to be able to dominate for 4 quarters. Offense, Defense, Special Teams. GBO

People won’t admit it, but a lot of our success in Heupel’s first 3 seasons occurred because of the scouting and recruiting that took place under pruitt.

Heupel got the offense figured out schematically which was the missing piece of the puzzle. We have to get bigger and stronger as a team, especially on defense.

I refuse to go back to the day so of hoping the S&C turns around the program's issues. I remember the hype for Dooley and Jones S&C hires and those threads went like OC or DC search threads talking about how it would stop the injuries and make our boys big and strong so we can finally get to bowl games consistently.

S&C is about 40% technique / program and 60% motivation.
I don't think the S&C people under Heupel are very good at motivating guys to get with the program and do the work.

Remember under Butch (I think it was Butch) there was a running podcast with a nutritionist that was part of the S&C program.
She was a motivator...just sayin'

When guys are not 100% confident in what they are doing, especially on defense, they tend to look slow and weak. I say this because of the additional "tendency" to react slowly and to take bad pursuit angles (which they are absolutely notorious for going) I am not sure if they knew what to do but couldn't do it, or simply didn't know what to do. Some of the boys looked lost out there a lot.

Idk. We saw immediate dramatic improvement when Heupel took over. I doubt the motivation factor is that.

I will say this as a criticism. When Heupel gets guys in the locker room that are distractions or a cancer, he seems to get them out kind of slowly. I know you have a responsibility to give kids a chance to mature.

Not really related directly to strength and conditioning but I think it kind of messes up the culture and that bleeds over into several areas in the program.

I agree they need to get bigger and stronger. They also need to learn to tackle and wrap up and quit arm tackling.

Playing a bend but don't break defense allows good offenses to accumulate yardage by keeping everything in front of them. It didn't help that the backend of the defense lacked serious tackling skills and the LBs were out of position a whole lot.

Agreed. I’m tired of hearing how developed guys LOOK. We had a bunch of upper extremity injuries including David Sanders’. People keep commenting on how much weight he put on, but it was soft weight.

Our guys look nothing like these championship teams, and the most telling fact is that they get pushed around by teams—including those with less talent.

Banks was the 3rd guy on my list that needed to go—but somehow he went first. Elarbee second, and Kurt Schmidt first.

My reason for believing we should let go of Schmidt first, is because I believe there is a real possibility performance across the board would improve if our S&C improved. Otherwise, we are kind of making blind fires.

The reason I am so keen on this situation is because I remember how Tennessee’s team absolutely tanked after losing Dave Lawson under Butch Jones. If I recall correctly, Butch ended up promoting Michael Szerszen from within, and I remember thinking it was a terrible move to begin with. I blamed Butch for years until I learned how handcuffed he was by Mike Hamilton who apparently wouldn’t spring for a top notch guy.

I just posted about Butch Jones in another thread. He did so many cringeworthy things, it made it easy for so many to pile on. But his achievements everywhere else have been notable, and he experienced mild success here for a couple of years. Losing Lawson hurt him badly, and getting a top guy in that role would help Huepel greatly.

Those guys started chucking around hay bails when they were seven years old. Our guys are waaaay behind!
Truth! I started around 12 and I couldn’t keep up for a couple of years. Kind of embarrassing back then when the girls that had grew up on the farm outworked me
