Stop picking on Jancek

Can't like this enuff........I've read things from Butch needs to put his loyalty aside and make staff changes to Butch has made a mistake letting him go and praising him and thanking him (which is deserved) to I'm glad he's gone and now even bringing his family life into the disrespectful comments and allegations....... We are fans of the Unniversity of Tennessee and we to a point represent our unniversity just as the coaches and players do, so let's be classy and be the bigger people here folks.

Rant over now thanks for your time.
You grouped all your periods together. You're supposed to space them throughout the paragraph.

4th and 14. Grier is literally limping. You make the obvious call and bring the house, and we win the East and break the streak.

This. He made some awful calls on D early in the year, butttt still leave it be. We have moved on, so will he.

Don't understand the elation for this guy. You Just fired A gritty, seasoned, blue collar guy To hire A Yale grad who has coached at nearly every Ivy league college in existence.

Pardon me for not booking a room in Tampa next January.

Are you saying he's too smart to be at UT? He last coached ivy league a decade ago. Everyone starts somewhere

So earlier in the year the spin was the defense was doing a great job and were being left on the field too long because of our conservative play calling but now it is all Jancek's fault and he made some awful calls?

I dont have the football knowledge to really grasp how much better Shoop is but it may have something to do with him going to Vandy and turning it into a ranked team, VANDY! and then going to another dumpster fire, Penn State and creating a #2 ranked defense in the nation - all with MUCH less talent than we have returning next year. vSo people figure if he can make a silk purse from a sow's ear, Shoop should be deadly when actually given weapons from the start.

In his "defense", Jancek can claim that he turned our dumpster fire of a program into a ranked team as well - cant fault his recruiting either. I think it just comes down to Shoop being seen as more aggressive and better at on field XOs, especially in game adjustments. Maybe that is the difference between Jancek, a solid journeyman who helps craft us back into an elite program and Shoop, presumably a rock star coach (now) at an elite program. If you only have $5-600k to spend on a DC and especially if you are not in as brutal a conference, I would think Jancek would be a great pickup for a lot of programs to get/stay in top 25 ranking - though he may not get you to the playoffs - and for most, that is still pretty darn great.

Because if the D call was to rush 4, the fail may not have occurred?
Yep. Janzek's sphincter muscles froze up in the 4th Qtr just like it did in the OK game. Rushing 3 on those 4th down conversions was just unforgivable. We didn't just get burned on that particular one...but a handful of them.

Exactly, CBJ went to Ferris State and coached there and Malzahn was coaching in high school 10 years ago. Like you said, 95% of these guys have to start pretty low and work their way up. It is a very tough business.

Sure he should have brought more pressure.
But what you don't do is call a timeout. But Butch did that. Even McElwain admitted after the game he was ready to punt, but changed his mind.

That happened twice that game but I don't think the 4th and 14 instance was one of them. If you punt there we take the knee and it's game over. Just like if Jancek doesn't blow it we take the knee and it's over.

Coaches who are at the university for a short period of time are not VFLs. They get paid well to do their job, but that doesn't make them a VFL.

I hate to see him leave the way he did, he obviously rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. I was content with him being our DC. However, I am extremely intrigued by the upgrade at DC. I am not sure at how long Shoop will be here, this feels like he is trying to trampoline himself up the ladder. If we keep getting the talent that we are getting, Jimbo Hyams could be our DC and we would win the East.

Hopefully, Shoop is in position to leave for a HC position after a few years. Would mean that he has been very successful with the Vols. Shoop will be a HC one day, very good hire.
