Source: Butch staying, raise pending

Both sides make comparisons to Dooley. Those who aren't Butch fans typically like to simply compare records.

I think it's fine to compare. I don't think anyone believes it's the measuring stick or some ultimate measure of success, but when you take one step out of a huge hole, I don't see an issue with looking down to see that you're no longer standing on the bottom... as long as you keep climbing.

The hole was crater like. Next year will tell the tale 8 wins should be the expectation imo.

Agreed...
Half of these people complaining about the raise haven't gave a cent to the university, or have been to an actual football game in over 20 years. They're the same people who ask for your Netflix password cause they're too cheap to give up $9.99 a month.
I also remember our last coach stopping football practices cause there was a trashcan moved two feet too far to the left.
So, in my opinion...
Give Butch the money he deserves, and throw in a couple secret monthly conjugal visits from Layla Kiffin if need be.

I could not agree more......don't give a damn penny and bit*h all the time.

If you can't see he is a better coach than dodo then I can't help ya. Talent dodo had was better than what was here in jones first year with a meh recruiting class. I see all the good off field stuff and a fan base that mostly likes where the program appears to be heading. The team doesn't lay down this year and competed till the end and makes a bowl and finished 4th in east and is moving up. I said four years at a minimum and still fill that way. It looks more like a discipline football team that plays football. He has done more than Dooley with less while building the talent to where in two years it will be championship quality and quantity. Then we will watch and judge him with all the evidence we will need as a coach.

didn't say it wasn't. But improving from what Derek Dooley did isn't exactly doing a lot.

Well you could be watching other teams play in a bowl game this year. Be happy you get to watch the VOLS. Personally, the man deserved the raise, even more so for the assistants. This is how you build something special!

How about you read all my posts first and realize how clueless your post is.

Yes, but if we had hired another bust as hc, we would be still smoking a cigarette thinking how are we gonna get out of this ditch. Butch has come in and said, 'you boys need any help?' Thank goodness he has a four wheel drive and a heavy chain. Even a novice fan has to realize CBJ has accelerated our climb out of the hole everyone speaks of. His recruiting is reminding me of a young go getter like Fulmer was. I've watched UT football for a long time now. Once we have major talent and depth, the next step is to evaluate assistants. I have faith in Butch's vision and goals. I don't think for a second that if a part of the machine is not achieving, Butch will replace it without hesitation. I'm all aboard on the CBJ train.

And therein lies your and many others' problem. You believe you have to be 100% all in and brainwashed to worship all things Butch Jones. Any sort of doubt or hesitation someone has about Jones is considered to be d***ing and those doubting him are pure evil and want him fired. The Butch loyalists refuse to accept that there could be middle ground.

There's no worship. 'Even the most novice of fans has to agree Butch has accelerated our climb out of the hole we were in'. I stand by that statement. It's not sunshine pumping, brainwash, pseudo hysteria assessment at all. It's reality. It's also very difficult to evaluate assistants when your hands are dealt poor cards. When someone wants to fire Butch, or fire this assistant or that one for poor play of his group, they need to take a reality pill and assess what they had to work with and who those players were playing against. What's even worse than that is acting as if Butch is weak for not making a knee jerk shake up of his staff. Trust me, when we have all the pieces in place, I will be much more vocal in my assessment of playcalling and schemes. But to do that now is just not logical,IMO. Maybe you and others go by a different set of criteria. I think that's why yall get frustrated by your posts getting attacked now. It's just now is not the time.

Yep....on his way to 152 wins, a Natl Championship and the Hall of Fame.

Sure we all get that, I liked Phil a lot for a long time.

It's been a long time now and looking back he worked in a pretty weak SEC. He also chunked away seasons where we were highly ranked. Pre season # 3 and wound up I think with seven losses.

Butch is taking heat for going 5-7 and 6-6 thus far.

I'm not saying he is above reproach like some of his advocates. I'm not saying 5-7 and 6-6 are reasonable for this program.

I am saying we fired Fulmer for tanking down to the 5/6/7 win area. The great Phil Fulmer. Meanwhile we got people on here remembering him fondly and bashing Butch uncontrollably. Butch may have a similar record to Phil's worst years but he also didn't turn a pre season #3 into a complete debacle. He actually turned what many predicted as a 4 win season and got us bowl eligible.

I agree we could have should have beat Florida/Georgia possibly but only because of the Coach's dedication to recruiting and ability to replace a roster suffering from attrition.

Point being he has ups and downs. His use of timeouts sometimes worries me. I'm not sold on Mahoney.
He works his ass off for this University though with a work ethic I don't think we have had since Fulmer's halfway point. He is a great recruiter and has put together a solid staff. Because of that I won't hammer him for putting together similar seasons to Phil Fulmer.

Geez.. No wonder our kids get trophy's for last place.. Lol..

article suggests 6 figure increase as well. That'd be nice. I honestly expected Butch's raise to be more. At 3.3 per year he's still at the bottom of the SEC in salaries.

Should I cancel the check to help pay off his mortgage?

Fulmer almost always lost to Florida which also was the only consistently good team in the SEC those years, and he also lost to Vandy.

You get a trophy for weakest argument.

Wow, I'm wrong. Even the most novice fan doesn't see the progress.
