Source: Butch staying, raise pending

Not another one of these. You people just won't let it die! He isn't going anywhere. Sit back enjoy playoff chaos tomorrow and realize our season isn't over.
Exactly how hard is it for you people to have just a little bit of respect? You know just some common courtesy. I didn't start this thread to make your life any harder tonight. I didn't even address it specifically to you. I always thought that members could choose what threads they reply to or read. I apologize if I somehow compelled you to read and reply to this thread.

I'm sorry, I had a sudden surge of stupidity and thought I would ask this ridiculous question. I knew that damn ethics class I took at UT in 81 was worthless.

Don't rewrite history. Butch didn't speak all those 4-8 predictions. There were multiple articles, sports analysts, fans, etc that predicted those numbers. The majority was probably set at 5-7. It made me pissed seeing it all before the season started. Feinbaum and others thought we could lose to arky state and utah st. In fact, what were your predictions? I'd like to see the preseason post, but don't care enough to look the bs up.

Roddo, I agree with you. There were many on here who were predicting 4 wins and many national writers were saying 5he same thing. I expected 6-6 and got it. If people can not see progress in this team they know nothing about football.

I know you changed your opinion on a raise. I have no issues with it at all, and wish Hart would go back and increase it a bunch more to so Butch good faith. $250K is not any money in the coaching arms race. To the people who are too cheap to pay Netflix and most everyone else with a normal job $250K is an unbelievable amount of money, but Stoops at KY, a basketball school, is getting $4 million and change a year and we, a football school, are paying $3 million and change. Somebody will come in and snatched up Jones if we do not pay him.

CBJ is the man, and yes I admit he has made coaching mistakes. Heck, in hindsight Saban's field goal attempt at Aub last year was a coaching mistake. Richt's squib kick against Ga. Tech last weekend was a coaching mistake. They all make them. Let's just hope CBJ learns from his where as Richt always finds ways to lose a game or two a year through coaching errors and never seems to learn.

HART PAY THE MAN AND HIS ASSISTANTS.

Flame away if you want folks. AThese are JMO's FWIW.

GO BIG ORANGE.

Well, the way I see it, the goal was go get to 6 wins and a bowl game. They made that goal. Maybe it's because they met their goal. However, if the possibility that he may have lied is really bothering you, call him up and just ask if he lied.

buTch is our coach and I don't think he's going anywhere.

It's a very tough, high stress business and the money does matter which is why all coaches have agents to take care of the business end of things.

Agents get paid a percentage so they're always looking for any ways possible to get their clients more money so they also get more money too.

If buTch gets more money part of that deal will also include more money for his staff and that's a good thing because we do NOT want to lose our best recruiters.

Many times the clients don't know what's being done by the agents until after something is said or done so we don't know if the agent said or did something without buTch knowing it beforehand.

At this point keeping buTch and his staff is all that's realy important.

#BrickbyBrick...VFL...GBO!!!

I never called this thread stupid. It's just people keep second guessing every positive report and bringing up he's leaving when there has been absolutely no substantial reports regarding that.

A thread this long over a coach that was never going anywhere getting a less than 10% raise?

I don't know that Butch has done a lot in the win column to warrant a raise, but if he and Hart agreed that a bowl game was the goal and a raise is to follow, then so be it.

Regardless, like you said, $250,000 isn't a huge increase anyway.

And you know this how? Read it somewhere? Can't be speculation because you stated that its how things work. You an agent? Have a degree in sports management?

Read that back to yourself and you'll see how condescending it sounds.

GAVol is right...this is how it works. Happens all the time. The answer wasn't condescending in the least.

Who knew so many on here have that amount of disposable income? Hope some of you remember to donate to the less fortunate this holiday season. Lots of kids out there that deserve to have a Merry Christmas.

Probably, but I'm sure I wouldn't publicly say the opposite. I would be concerned that it would raise a question about my integrity. But that's just me. I'm not saying that's what he did. But yeah, the more I think about it the more it would bother me if it happened.

If Butch actively pursued the Michigan job after making the aforementioned statements concerning his allegiance to Tennessee, yes, it could be construed as a red flag concerning his integrity. On the other hand, if Butch or his agent simply informed Dave Hart that Michigan had expressed some interest in him as a potential candidate for their coaching position and Butch leveraged that information for a contract raise and/or extension, as countless other coaches have done in similar situations, I have no problem with it whatsoever.

There is no integrity in college football. Schools will fire a coach quickly, and coaches will only to other schools quickly. It's a job. Everyone is just doing what they feel is the best for them.

Thats what all humans do. You couldn't fault Jones if he went to Michigan, just like you can't fault kiffin for going to USC.

Im sure most people on here would agree that if they were the coach at USC or Michigan they would leave, or at least think about, for Tennessee.

Agent leaks story of search firm calling Butch = Butch gets raise = agent gets raise too. All for a phone call.

It wasn't condescending to you because it wasn't addressed to you. I wasn't asking how it works. Anyone that has ever been around the sport knows that it happens. I simply asked a question that I thought might spark some interesting discussion. I completely forgot that anything that could or might be considered negative or contrary to certain members opinions is frowned upon.

It's never a discussion anyway. Just a bunch of Kurt replies that are more often than not offensive. To hard to actually form a reply that actually has a meaning.

I was talking to a close friend of mine today about the raise that CBJ is getting and he asked me an interesting question and what I thought about it. He asked me if I remembered CBJ publicly stating that he was not interested in the Michigan job, loved it here, was going nowhere and that he was going to be here for a long time. I told him that I did. He said "well if he said that and he meant it, why all of this about raises, extensions etc. if he has no intentions of going anywhere?" "Did he lie?" He asked me how I would feel if it came out that he used the Michigan job to negotiate a raise after he made that statement. I told him that I wasn't sure. Hadn't thought about it.

I've been thinking about it and I'm still not sure. This is a totally different thing than asking if he deserves it or not.

I'm inclined to think he was being honest and other than rumors I have no evidence to the contrary. I've thought since the day he came here he was on an honest mission to fix this program come hell or high water. Everything between the coaching, recruiting, the slogans, the full on attempts to fill up the stadium every Saturday even supports that. The way I see it most people get some percentage of a raise every year and he's two years in. The school wouldn't give him anymore than they could afford anyway so if an extra 250G's per year makes him happy(ier) then so be it.

I don't blame a coach at all for weighing options and doing what is best for him at the time. Fans are fickle as are administrators. I've seen too many great coaches get the back stab. It happens in high school coaching too. I was once the toast of a town in HS. I had a better offer from a HS that had a bigger talent pool than we did, and said no. I'm a man of character and loyalty, they gave me an opportunity when no one else did so I'll stay. The second year removed from that decision I was ran out on a rail. That is why the seasoned coaches never get too excited during the ups, or too low during the downs. Just seize the next opportunity. I imagine those agents do a lot of that on their own and say to the coach, I'll get you more money, just sit tight and deny. You don't even need to know the details if you don't want to. After all, agents are in it for themselves. Those guys always remind me of that character on Saturday night live. Dan aykroyd - the dangerous toy rep.

Butch Jones is not getting a raise and extension because of Michigan. He was going to get it regardless. If not he would be the 13th highest paid coach in the SEC next year. If we want to be a big time football program we can't pay less then market price for a coach. Like it or not it's just the way it is.

If Butch is happy, then I'm happy. He works his a$$ off, I have no problem with this little bump he just earned.

It wasn't condescending at all. You're just way too sensitive

JMO - but the reason you didn't see other schools or the NFL coming after Phil had nothing to do with his loyalty to UT and everything to do with the fact that he was very obviously up sh!t creek without the services of his OC and DC, who are to this day two of the best, if not the best, player development football coaches in the country. I still love Phil deep down inside (he WAS Tennessee football to me, growing up) but there's a reason they're both still coaching right now and he's not.

With Phil reeling in the blue-chips and Cut/Chavis coaching them up, it's no wonder we were so good in the 90's.

Why the hell did Kentucky do this????

This may be the worst sports transaction ever in terms of raises....

happened to catch his film show while flipping through the channels. Stoops can use the football lingo without all the "Coach speak". He doesn't make me barf with the resiliency crap all the time. He talks about execution.

When you coach football at a basketball school, you'd better be able to coach and develop because not the first consideration of recruits/fans.

I doubt anyone would have been disappointed to have had a Stoops ever coaching at UT.
