Some of you so-called "fans" on here..........

Majors was a good coach during that time period, but when the game changed, he couldn't keep up. Look at what Fulmer did with Major's recruits in his first year as HC.

Holding on to some antiquated idea that a coach needs 16 years to show off his coaching ability before he can be held accountable for the product on the field is ridiculous.

CBJ is paid $4 million dollars a year to recruit the players, hire the coaches, coach up talent, and make game day decisions that put the team in the best possible position to win. He's not up to snuff on some of his job duties, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with calling him out on them.

Many D1 teams put freshmen on the field and they have an immediate impact. Some players develop quickly, some have the God given ability from day 1. But the idea of we're to young has been spoon fed to us for far to long! CBJ downfall will be the positional coaches.

Or perhaps just put me on ignore...that way you won't be tempted to speculate.

Geez...

Don't need to ignore you. You're just a fan of another team that posts on here. And seems to think he's a little more noble for the effort. If I want to "speculate" that you failed, I shouldn't have to rely on you being quoted. Get off the martyr act. You talked out ya butt and got called on it. Move on and nobody cares.

Nobody cares, except the guy who can't stop quoting my posts to tell me no one cares, not to mention what I'm thinking.

Perhaps you should follow your own advice.

after suffering through the worst 10 years in program history, guess I'll have to turn in my True Fan card. Why didn't I do that in 2005? Dumb me.

You remind me of the neighbors puppy that when it gets full of puppy poop it comes over to our yard and makes a mess...you are welcome to lounge in the front yard of Volnation but stop making a mess where we congregate...Go poop on some fellow swamp vermon...Geez...Go Vols!

I broke my left forearm in Pop Warner football practice. After the bills were paid, my father decreed no more football, find another sport. I turned to futbol (soccer).

Though I never played a down in an actual game, I did scrimmage quite a bit. So, is this enough experience for license to proffer critique?

Very well then...it's clear who can't "let it go".

I look forward to you responding to my posts to BeecherVol, and speculating on my mindset and motives...all the while not caring.

Absolutely.

Who's responding to who? :). Also you haven't caught on that you're quoting me...and not vice versa. :wink2: You're a victim of yourself Larry. You go off on being reasoned and levelheaded, but a personal jibe has YOU not being able to let things go. Meaningless thread on VN has you (indirectly or not) ticking off cancer survivors and/or their loved ones and now women. What's your encore Larry? Denying the Holocaust? :w00t:

2nd or 3rd post below OP calling out "fans", and observing lots on here have no football experience but are bashing none the less.

So LW says what he said. Which can be rewritten:

The majority of doctors specializing in diagnosis and treatment of a particular illness have never had the experience of having been diagnosed it.

Or, folk who are good at fixing something might never had their own "something" need fixing.

Or, Lots of folk might know more about football than the OP is giving credit for.

I do not see peoples' problem with that. I don't see it as an attempt at macabre humor. It's just saying with a simile, clearly, what LW meant.

Everyone, pretty much, has had friends and loved ones pass or currently fighting cancer. My mother, two aunts, two uncles, my father-in-law.
I don't see LW's post in any way minimizing, making fun, being a joke, or ridiculing those with cancer or their families.

I thought, and still do, it was a very good simile.

Nice response.
Like you, I read no ill intent nor malice in his post.
I do understand that the pain may still be fresh for some people and they can still be strongly sensitive at this time. I hope that they can rethink their reaction later on and accept that it was not meant as a joke.

A great weekend to all in Volnation.

Because they have no patience and live in their world of I gotta have it right now.

This is such a stupid argument. So if you are under the age of 28 everyone is just an entitled, spoiled brat? The fact that the "older generation" talks like this just makes you all look whiny in my opinion.

There is no reason why it's not purposely acceptable to point out flaws in this team or discuss disappointment in the way we have played. Fans have been "patient" enough for close to a decade. At some point, we want to see real results and real improvement on the field. It does not take a 50-60 year old male to recognize what good football is and what good football is not. And if you truly believe your age makes you more intelligent and more qualified to discuss the subject then your elitism is every bit as annoying as my fellow 28-and-under crowd who "just want it now."

EDIT: And before you pull the good ole, "You're just a Nega-Vol" card on me, I am perfectly happy with the fact we are 2-0 right now. What I am not happy with is the fact that we have started the season very poorly and quite slow. Obviously, there is time to improve. But so far, it has not been overly encouraging with all the talent Team 120 contains.

First off to the OP. I've done this rant before, trust me it don't work. I love your positive enthusiasm to the team though! It's just that negavoling is an entrenched and longstanding and TBH deserved attitude from this fan base at this point. You can't call anyone out for not being a real fan because anybody who has stuck it out this long is a real fan. Some are just more fanatical than others.

I think people need to listen to the coaches more. It's funny that the guys who watch the most ball are the most blind to what is happening.

The coaches are here because the university is paying them to be here. When those checks stop then they aren't fans anymore. For the rest of us we do the opposite, we pay to be fans. When the coaches leave we will still be fans. The coaches are doing what is in their best interest, sometimes that is in the best interest for the team this year, sometimes it isn't. Jack Jones didn't play against App State bc Butch wanted to red shirt him. This would mean Butch almost sacrificed a possible great season to ensure more good seasons down the line. Good seasons don't get you fired, but look to Gene Chizik to see what a great season followed by a mediocre and bad season gets you.

Thanks for quoting and enjoying and pretending...that your "hopes" are of any value.

Thanks…and suffice it to say threads like this one are exactly why I post on VN.

There’s balance.

When differing points of view are expressed and encouraged, everyone learns something. The mods do a great job of policing this place, and the posters do a great job of policing each other.

I could have said people without children are perfectly capable of observing and identifying poor parenting skills….or someone without a civil engineering degree can be critical of a new highway interchange that’s confusing and potentially dangerous for motorists. The examples are endless.

Bottom line is fans are fans, they invest time, energy and emotion in their team. When expectations aren’t being met or red flags arise, it’s entirely possible to love your team yet at the same time be critical or point out obvious areas requiring improvement. Previous coaching experience is not required.

“Real fan” threads or “sit or stand” threads usually turn into powder kegs based on the emotion and passion of being fans, so I understand vollygirl’s overreaction. Chances are it won’t be the last time a woman overreacts to an objective, factual statement made without malicious intent (that was a joke…rooted in truth, but a joke nonetheless).

Generally speaking I also think people are overly sensitive today now more than ever.

You did nothing wrong, or even offensive. Don't sweat it. It was a valid comparison, with no obvious ill-intent. The safe-spacers need to learn to self-soothe a little bit. There are very few people in the country today that have not been effected by cancer in someway. The phony outrage being exhibited has become the only way some know to react to an opposing view. Take a look at the evening news for evidence.

:good!:
