Some of you so-called "fans" on here..........

are making me seriously consider not coming back to VolNation. True, we have not looked like world-beaters the first 2 games and I am as disappointed as anyone. But some of you "fans" continue to bash the coaches and players on a daily basis. If you know so freaking much about football, then I encourage you to send Dave Hart your resume immediately....and we all will sit back and watch how its done.

I have been a Vol fan for a long time having grown up in KnoxVegas listening to John Ward's play by play on the radio before many games were on TV. As a student, I rarely missed a game. At the end of the day, I support the Vols 100%...win, lose, or draw. It pisses me off to read some of the sheet some of you post bashing the team, players, and coaches.

Fact is, most of you (me included) never played a freaking down of organized football. But I love the game and I love my Vols. So unless you can become Head Coach, OC, DC, etc and make the team better STHU and support OUR team. I would rather be an 8-4 Vol than a 12-0 Gator, Bulldog, or Bammer any day of the week!

Now lets kick some Bobcat @$$ and then worry about the Lizards. GBO!!

Lol well you seem triggered. I and anyone else on here can critique problems with the team all we want. If you don't like it and want to live in a world where you don't have to think about problems with the team until a loss happens, I don't think volnation is for you.

Bye

Well said. My history is similar to yours and I will date myself further by saying I had some classes with Condredge Holloway, and Ernie Grunfeld, both True Vols. I survived the Bill Battle days and we were all excited when Johnny came home to fix us. He would be fired with these guys on here because it took him 6 years to get us back. I remember the day after the 98 NC win someone called in to a talk show talking about how we didn't "look" like a National Champion. It has gotten old to see the same things written over and over bashing our kids, and yes they could be my kids or grandkids now. Give it a rest and enjoy stuff for a change. Some in here are starting to sound like bammers and gators.

Players need bashing too. It's not always coaching.
Poor attitude and lackadaisical execution can not always be fixed by a coach.

Example? A former Wolverine on that team has come out about how Michigan's first string held Appy State in such low regard the week before the game they partied often and hard. Several thought it would be fun to see how bad they could beat Appy stoned outta their gourds and toked up heavily before the game. You can find it yourselves.

Point is a coach can not always motivate, can not always "parent" and for dang sure can't get out on the field and execute for a player when a play or technique or pass route has been practiced over, and over, and over.

They should drug test more often!

Nobody would get stoned if they're undefeated cause that would also mean they beat the Gators. :clapping:

Totally disagree with that after we won NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. There were some saying we won in spite of Fulmer. In another thread today one poster said 2 coaches that were horrible that have went undefeated where Larry Coker and Phil Fulmer. So some are never satisfied.

Fact is, not everybody that is a fan of the Vols is just like you. And maybe you could accept that a good chunk of the fanbase are not blind supporters, defenders of this coaching staff, and sunshine pumpers. Some folks see perceived issues with this team and coaching staff (which was picked to win the east and be a playoff team by many experts) and they voice their concerns... what is wrong with that?

I don't see LW's post in any way minimizing, making fun, being a joke, or ridiculing those with cancer or their families.

I thought, and still do, it was a very good simile.

Thanks…and suffice it to say threads like this one are exactly why I post on VN.

There’s balance.

When differing points of view are expressed and encouraged, everyone learns something. The mods do a great job of policing this place, and the posters do a great job of policing each other.

I could have said people without children are perfectly capable of observing and identifying poor parenting skills….or someone without a civil engineering degree can be critical of a new highway interchange that’s confusing and potentially dangerous for motorists. The examples are endless.

Bottom line is fans are fans, they invest time, energy and emotion in their team. When expectations aren’t being met or red flags arise, it’s entirely possible to love your team yet at the same time be critical or point out obvious areas requiring improvement. Previous coaching experience is not required.

“Real fan” threads or “sit or stand” threads usually turn into powder kegs based on the emotion and passion of being fans, so I understand vollygirl’s overreaction. Chances are it won’t be the last time a woman overreacts to an objective, factual statement made without malicious intent (that was a joke…rooted in truth, but a joke nonetheless).

Generally speaking I also think people are overly sensitive today now more than ever.

Like most on here, you missed the OP's point! It's called being a Vol fan. Win, lose or tie some want to support our team, no matter what!

I will always support the team. their is nothing wrong with calling a Duck a Duck . This O-line has been bad since Butch got here so everyone wants to know why. And everyone who knows anything about football I mean anything can see some players that do not play well and they are still playing and if they get hurt and someone else comes in and does better. Why was he not starting to begin with? Just saying

GO VOLS

Have you ever been out and you over hear somebody talking like a know-it-all? And you realize they don't know as much as they think they do, but the people around them just let them ramble, cause they're a likable person otherwise. Volnation is kinda like that.

Self-awareness is a good thing.

The people who grade a coaching staff by media "expectations" are funny.

:eek:lol:

Maybe we should fire Butch Jones. I think there were a few people on the list of candidates that did not get to turn us down before he took the job. They would like a second chance.

So what if handful of fans among millions say this? That is to be expected and should be ignored (not even worth talking about). Also, I'm sure hardly anyone criticized Fulmer right after he won the NC? The fact people criticized him years after that (after he has had some bad years which were more recent and relevant to people at that point) is also to be expected, and number of people criticizing increased accordingly. I think this is just common sense so not sure what you are surprised about?

You obviously want to pick a forum fight, clever guy. I have no interest but, by all means, keep blessing us with your strawman arguments and anecdotes.

I stand by my comments that LW was not inappropriate w/ his analogy and that miss VN princess was inappropriate in attacking him the way she repeatedly did. I also don't approve of her (and others) attempt to create a "safe space" on VN with unison happy thoughts. If we looked like a playoff contender maybe the negativity towards any perceived negativity would be warranted.

I guess this makes me angry, huh, dr phil? you have any more thoughtful points on Obama and your son's kindergarten teacher?

Easy brother. You're just coming off awfully aggressive. I prefer intellectual conversations without the insults. We actually had the same stance in defense of LW, and that a particular poster took things a little far, and it's likely we agree on lots of other things. It appears we express them differently. Just having a little fun. Sorry if you got offended.

I would also add that I find it interesting considering the tone of each of our posts you believe it's me trying to pick the fights.

I love how the guy who throws around the "safe-space" garbage is the one getting all offended! You just have to laugh at that level of irony!

Majors was a good coach during that time period, but when the game changed, he couldn't keep up. Look at what Fulmer did with Major's recruits in his first year as HC.

Holding on to some antiquated idea that a coach needs 16 years to show off his coaching ability before he can be held accountable for the product on the field is ridiculous.

CBJ is paid $4 million dollars a year to recruit the players, hire the coaches, coach up talent, and make game day decisions that put the team in the best possible position to win. He's not up to snuff on some of his job duties, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with calling him out on them.
