Signature Win - Over UGA?

Butch will take care of that for me. I don't need to push the fire Butch agenda. Just because I don't believe in the coach makes me a non-fan huh?

Didn't say anything of the sort. I do think minimizing last night's win is being very fickle.

UGA’s wins:

Louisiana Monroe (1-4) - lone win over Nicholls State (0-5)

Vandy (2-3) - wins over Austin Peay (0-6) and MTSU (2-4)

South Carolina (2-4) - wins over North Carolina (4-1) - UNC’s wins are over North Carolina A&T, Illinois, Delaware, and Georgia Tech and Central Florida (0-6)

Southern University (3-2) - wins over Mississippi Valley State (0-6), Jackson State (1-4), and Alabama State (2-4)

So to digest. The opponents Georgia beat has a combined record of 8-13. The opponents of the opponents that UGA has beaten has a combined record of 9-36

Please continue to tell me how this was Butch’s signature win. He beat a team that lost their top player the first play of the game and has a QB who couldn’t cut it at Virginia. And a team that won’t be in the top 25 come poll time.

Look, this takes nothing away from the players effort in the game. Dobbs is a warrior. But to tell me that Butch "got it done" is a stretch. UGA was overrated it seems. Stats don't lie. But I'm sure just by me posting this some people will automatically think I'm a NegaVol.

There's a big difference IMO between being a fan of the team and players and worshipping the coaches. I don't ever think Butch gets more than 9 regular season wins at UT and IMO that's just not good enough. I'm glad they beat UGA and with Bama's issues on offense they very well could give Bama a game this year. Missouri sucks and South Carolina has checked out. It's probably a good year for TN to turn the corner and look pretty decent when all is said and done.

I just have a problem with people saying that this is a top 10 win in program history. It was one of the best come from behind wins I can remember but we beat a team that isn't all that great it seems. Anytime we beat UGA is a good day. Realistically we should be 5-1 now - Arkansas handled us fair and square. But we should have wins over Florida and Oklahoma - who also showed they may just be mediocre at best this year once again. TCU and Baylor will destroy them.

Flame away - I've got pretty thick skin.

2013 vs #11 USC was the "signature win" you are looking for. They ended the season #4.

This was a much needed win to help turn a very young team around.

I just found it interesting how woefully bad UGA's opponents records were. Will it pan out through the end of the year? Who knows. With the East being so down and Georgia Tech being down UGA might still win 9 regular season games this year. It was a stat I just thought was eye opening.

OMG I know right? Good thing we don't have to play Ohio State next week. Their opponents have been horrible and if we beat them it wouldn't even matter.

I'm happy about beating UGA. I don't ever want them to lose. If Butch proves me wrong and wins out I would be elated. Alabama is beatable this year. If they beat Alabama then that most certainly is a signature win on any card. Even if they get beat up by A&M next week.

I want them to win just as much as any of you. But this is a discussion forum and I threw out those stats as a discussion piece. Did I figure it would be a popular topic? Absolutely not. But I did think it was interesting enough to discuss. It isn't another mindless "fire him, praise him" topic that floods the boards. It was something that I thought had a bit of substance.

It's still dumb.

This was our third victory against a top 25 team in eight years and our first against Georgia in five and you are trying to minimalize it to prove your point that Butch can't get it done.

Lol... Georgia is not terrible. The fact is that Alabama is the best team in the SEC and then you can throw a blanket over just about the next 7 or 8 teams.

And the injury thing is just a fact of life. I can think of about 3 key injuries that would change our team if we had them back.

Everyone says this about UGA. They almost always play a weak ass schedule early, they get beat (oh they are actually terrible!) and they win 8-10 games.

Notice he didn't mention the fact we didn't have three of our top six offensive linemen.

That was a huge paragraph. Nevertheless it's untruthful. Anytime we beat a ranked UGA it's a big deal. To do it with a huge number of freshman and sophomores makes the win that much more impressive. You guys can say whatever you want but be aware that there are some of us who understand football and the types of comments that you make sound absurd to us. We probably just took UGA out of the race for the SEC East. If UGA and us win out we have beaten them so you know what that means.

OP wants to belittle a win over GA because of who they have played?? SMDH..Yeah you might be a non-fan if you start a thread like this after beating GA, claiming it's not a signature win..

I dont know if this is a signature win but it is a win against a good SEC team. And it is a win over someone ya'll havent beaten in 5 years. And it is a win over what was a top 25 team. And it was a great come from behind win. But the main thing is it was a win. Period. Congratulations.

The fact remains Tennessee should have beaten Florida and Oklahoma. What are their records? This is a signature win because this team (coaches and players) were able to finally close out with a win.

I was happy. I took my son to the game. Only one we will get to attend this year. I thought we had a special time.

Now I'm sad. I wish I hadn't wasted our time. I guess I need to go read the OP to my son because he is under the misconception that UTs win was a positive thing. Dang

I'll call Saturday a signature win. Stopped a streak and gave the team confidence. Figures they win when I go hunting. Last time I hunted during a game was Georgia in 2009. That being said, Georgia hasn't played well this year. Oklahoma looked terrible Saturday. We still got outcoached twice this year.

agendas.....it's what's for dinner.

i said it last week, the biggest problem i have with the whole coach debate is that there are those that simply want to be right. several people kind of challenged that notion.

i give you this thread and the OP as exhibit A. there are those that it won't matter what happens, they want him to fail so he'll be gone, just so they're right. Beat GA, doesn't matter, it's like beating UT chattanooga.

the OP has already set up the Bama game..."they're beatable this year, so if we win that game, THEN that will be a signature win".

we just lowered the expectation on Bama cause now they're beatable. all the sudden, Bama isn't that good. thus setting up the slam dunk "see told ya" when/if we lose.

If we beat Bama next week it will not be a signature win either! They haven't even won a Super Bowl. A real true Signature Win would be the Patriots or the Bulls in the 90s or even Ronda Rousey!

At no point in the last 20 years has a win over Alabama, Florida or Georgia not been a big deal. And beating Georgia is probably the single biggest win for recruiting that there is.

This all day. You'd think most would understand it.

I'll take the wait and see approach. We will know how good UGA is by the end of the season and will be better able to look back at this game.

They probably win out in the east besides Florida IMO

Like I said there's a difference at least to me between coach worshipping and being a fan of a team. I had posted this elsewhere but here was my answer as to why I'm a fan of Tennessee.......

I’ve been a Tennessee fan my entire life. Doesn’t matter what sport I always wanted the Big Orange to win. My parents were UT fans especially my dad. So I grew up cheering for the Vols. I was born in 80 so I can fondly remember the 1985 season and the magic of beating Miami in the Sugar Bowl that year. Some of my most vivid memories revolve around Tennessee football. I used to love hearing John Ward on the radio with the TV turned down. My mom used to put up the Christmas tree right around Thanksgiving so I remember many times getting the Christmas decorations out of the barn and putting up the tree while the Vols were playing Vandy.

I had to get a job when I was 14 because my dad became disabled and I had to help my mom pay the house payment and the electric bill. So, from 94 to 99, I was working in retail at a local K-Mart. Thankfully working in Electronics I could see some of the Tennessee games. The one’s that were broadcast on CBS at least. So, when Memphis State beat the Vols by some miracle I was so irritated that I broke a wooden table with my right fist and for my effort put the bone of my right hand through the skin. Still have the scar as a reminder of how stupid that was. I was at work when UT played Arkansas in 1998. I remember after Arkansas got the ball back I was nearly in tears. I knew that a loss and we were out of the National Championship picture once again. I remember exactly where I was standing watching the video wall when Arkansas fumbled it back away to us and will never forget that feeling.

Now I’m an adult with even more responsibilities and 3 beautiful little girls. The oldest one is now 6 so she at least understands what UT means to me and it’s starting to mean more to her. For the two year old twins to say Tudown Tennessee makes me feel good that I’m passing on my love for the Vols to my kids. And I still make time at least a couple of times per year to go watch Tennessee play with my parents. To me, Tennessee football is more than just a game. It's time for family to be together and have a good time watching football.

I've only been to a handful of UT games in my life. The first chance I will never forget walking through the tunnel and seeing the field for the first time. Even as a 20 year old it was breathtaking to me. I had the chance to go to the Alabama game in 2006. I had a serious staph infection from getting cut about a month beforehand. It had spread through me and I was in and out of the hospital several times trying to fight off spreading infection. I basically walked out of the hospital late on a Friday night against the doctor's orders to go to the Alabama game because to me it meant more than my health. I didn't know how many times in my life I'd get a chance to go to the Third Saturday in October. I'll never forget that day. I went to the game with my mother and it was her first ever trip to Neyland. It was the last time we beat Bama and just to experience that game was awesome.

---------

So, at least IMO I'm a fan of Tennessee and most certainly Tennessee football. Just because I don't like their coach and haven't since day one doesn't change that fact. I was a fan way before he got here and will be a fan long after he's gone.

And as far as the "told you so" thing it's darned if you do, darned if you don't. If I would have posted this after a loss it would be gloating. If I post this like I did after a win it's making excuses. Just because I don't agree with who the coach is in Knoxville at least to me does not make me a non-fan. To those who like him that's fine. Everyone should be entitled to their own opinions.
