Signature Win - Over UGA?

I don't think we got UGa's best this year, and not just because Chubb was injured at the start of the game. But I think we got somewhere in the general vicinity of their best (minus Chubb).

What we've seen of them since, though, is a meltdown. They are now far below where they were just four weeks ago. The loss of Chubb, the loss to us, the weak win over Mizzou, and the loss to Florida have sapped them. Self-doubt crept in under the tent's edge and now resides with them.

If they'd bounced back from their loss to us and taken care of business (beating Mizzou soundly, then a good, close game against FL), I think maybe we would be looking back at October 10th as the signature win of the year.

As things stand, we may not have one of those in 2015. Just a bunch of wins, none "signature."

Why does everything need a label? It was a comeback win against a rival. Good enough. Move on.

3 touchdowns against a team we hadn't beaten in 5 years.

it was a big deal. it needed to happen.

these kinds of threads and their tone only go to show why this isn't near as much fun as it used to be.

it truly is more important not to lose, than it is to win.

there are no accomplishments. just varying levels of suck and mediocrity.

I'm not saying it wasn't a big deal but people have this need to put labels on things when it's not necessary. A win over UF, Bama, or UGA doesn't need justifying.

Oh it was a W alright. That can't be disputed. Coming back from 21 down was impressive. Being down by 21 to a horrendous UGA team is more impressive and most baffling.

That's what happens when you give up a goofy fumble return for a TD and then get a block in the back flag picked up on a punt return for another TD in the first 20 minutes of the game. It was 24-3, but probably should have been 10-10.

So...you're upset that people talk to each other unnecessarily, using unnecessary words and labels and the like. That they sit around chatting about football and discussing wins and losses in a completely superfluous way?

Having trouble understanding your perspective, unless it's simply the Orange & White version of "Bah, humbug!"

Not sure what you're trying to accomplish here.

The debate is whether the UGA game is/was a "signature" win. Well, there is no formal definition of "signature win."

My point, is what does it matter? It was a win. The signature part isn't up to UT instead that's up to UGA.

Again, any win over UGA, UF, or Bama doesn't need justification. Not sure where you're getting Bah humbug from.

Minimizing your own success so your narrative will still work is a great way to never have to admit your wrong

It doesn't exactly take a shrink ray to minimize Butch's success. Resume pretty much does the work on its own.

UGA squeaked by Missouri - barely. And Missouri is God awful this year. They lost to Vandy for God sakes. UGA is by no means good. Their own fans are even admitting it now.

One thing I don't get is how fans seem to only see things as binary: black or white, on or off, good or bad.

Teams are good and bad on a gradient. Teams can be good and still lose to great teams. Great teams can still be great and lose to good teams. Hell, teams can be national champions and still lose to mediocre teams along the way.

Consider that Virginia Tech beat Ohio State, last year. Well, UT beat Utah State handily, who beat Wake Forest, who beat Virginia Tech, who beat Ohio State. But wait, there's more... Ohio State beat Bama, who beat UT. Mizzou lost to Indiana last year and won the SEC east.

My point is if you try to make too much of one game, you'll end up with ridiculous conclusions.

Yep. Saw all of those. The fumble return for a TD was not a "fluke". It was a good defensive play where they blatantly stripped the ball from Hurd, recovered the fumble and advanced it as they were coached to do. Just because it so happened to take place on their own 1 yard line doesn't make it "fluke". If the same play happened on our side of the field it wouldn't have even been suggested as "fluke".

At any rate, be proud that we beat the cupcakes we are supposed to beat and think we're some "improved" team if it makes you feel better.

As for this year, even if we go 8-4 vs the bottom feeders on our schedule he has done nothing to garner any praise and certainly no contract extension.

It's dullards like you that give Vols fans a bad name.

Their wheels have come off and they're quitting on Richt..... To say they're not talented is incorrect..... To say they're soft is accurate
This!

Michel until he was hurt was considered a better RB than Chubb so all the Chubb worshipers can pound sand. UGA fans were complaining the week before the Bama game how disrespected they felt for getting no #1 votes or being considered #2. They and Richt have been exposed, they've packed it in, AJC writer said "after one year McElwain has produced a team 24/points better than Richt put on the field after 15 years."

Come from 21 points down to beat a top 25 team = Signature win

UGA is basically falling apart after UT beat them...it happens.

If UGA wins out, it's a signature win. If they lose again, then it's debatable

There is no winning this argument.

If Butch lost, it'd be, "He couldn't even beat a Chubb-less Georgia team." Since we won, "Well, they didn't have Chubb."

To further prove my point, some posters used to say "Talk to me when he beats UGA, UF, or Alabama." Now it's, "Talk to me when he beats UF or Alabama."
