Signature Win - Over UGA?

I think a win over Florida would have been or Alabama coming would be a signature win. Georgia is a good win. If they hadn't got clocked by Alabama maybe better. The loss to Arkansas still really stings. If we lose to Alabama, Missouri and South Carolina then all for naught. We'll see.

Just keep moving those goalposts...

What was it Bobby Bowden said? 'I finally figured out what a big game is. It's any game you lose.' Something along those lines...
If we had lost, OP and the other members of the Legions of the Miserable would have been on here crying that Butch needs to prove himself by winning one of the big 3 'rival' games. And yes, I'm sure he would have agreed with everyone else that it was indeed a big game. But since the Vols won, it is no better than WCU. Whatever, dude.

Did anyone notice the real UT had a signature win last night over Gerogia and the other one out in Texas had a signature win, as well. Both wins over hated rivals.

By the way loved seeing Striker getting exposed by Texas for his one deminsional pass rush game. He cannot defend the run.

I'm sure there are 'Nega-Horns' saying that OU was not a big win because OU is overrated and just got lucky to beat the Vols.

yes. this is a signature win. if you don't know that, then you haven't been paying attention the last 7 years. Hell, you haven't been paying attention the last month.

Couldn't agree more and for those not keeping count, that was the 5th largest comeback in UT history. Say what you will of Butch but he coached a pretty damn good game last night and I think I was most impressed with the offensive play calling. Dobbs may not be the best passer but he's got moutains of heart, just go back and watch that 99 yard fumble return, he pursued that man all the way to the goal line. You may not think much of it but that right there speaks volumes to me about his character.

UGA’s wins:

Louisiana Monroe (1-4) - lone win over Nicholls State (0-5)

Vandy (2-3) - wins over Austin Peay (0-6) and MTSU (2-4)

South Carolina (2-4) - wins over North Carolina (4-1) - UNC’s wins are over North Carolina A&T, Illinois, Delaware, and Georgia Tech and Central Florida (0-6)

Southern University (3-2) - wins over Mississippi Valley State (0-6), Jackson State (1-4), and Alabama State (2-4)

So to digest. The opponents Georgia beat has a combined record of 8-13. The opponents of the opponents that UGA has beaten has a combined record of 9-36

Please continue to tell me how this was Butch’s signature win. He beat a team that lost their top player the first play of the game and has a QB who couldn’t cut it at Virginia. And a team that won’t be in the top 25 come poll time.

Look, this takes nothing away from the players effort in the game. Dobbs is a warrior. But to tell me that Butch "got it done" is a stretch. UGA was overrated it seems. Stats don't lie. But I'm sure just by me posting this some people will automatically think I'm a NegaVol.

There's a big difference IMO between being a fan of the team and players and worshipping the coaches. I don't ever think Butch gets more than 9 regular season wins at UT and IMO that's just not good enough. I'm glad they beat UGA and with Bama's issues on offense they very well could give Bama a game this year. Missouri sucks and South Carolina has checked out. It's probably a good year for TN to turn the corner and look pretty decent when all is said and done.

I just have a problem with people saying that this is a top 10 win in program history. It was one of the best come from behind wins I can remember but we beat a team that isn't all that great it seems. Anytime we beat UGA is a good day. Realistically we should be 5-1 now - Arkansas handled us fair and square. But we should have wins over Florida and Oklahoma - who also showed they may just be mediocre at best this year once again. TCU and Baylor will destroy them.

Flame away - I've got pretty thick skin.

You know they won't be in the Top 25.. because.. we.. beat them, right?

Sorry OP, don't read past the the first line or 2 after figuring out the point of your thread. Don't care who they've beaten at this point....Tennessee is essentially judged by how they do vs 3 teams/rivals every year...Florida, Georgia and Bama. We just beat one of those 3....it was hands down, no questions asked a certain Signature win.

Beating BAma, Florida and buttsnifers are all signature wins. Never take beating these people for granted

Signature win? Yes. This was one of our big three rivals that we were 0 and 15 against over the past 5 years. To come back the way we did and finally stop the negative streak against these teams (Florida, Georgia, Alabama) does constitute a signature win. Akso, finally a win against someone other thsn the lower tiered East teams (SC, KY, Vandy).

And not to menation doing it after we were down 21 points? Definitely a signature win.

Signature win for CBJ? Most definitely, given his trend, the mounting national media criticism, and the fact that this is his 2nd in his career over a ranked team making him 2-19.

Signature win for the program? Only if 2010 is considered year zero. Otherwise calling it signature means that it compares to Bama 82, FSU 99, UF 98, the 1939 season, etc etc.

Great win that could not have come at a better time, absolutely yes, in many ways.

Rabid, unwavering support for the UT football program can exist without rabid, unwavering support for CBJ.

TCU barely beat Kansas St!
It's college football, scores and wins/loss against other teams means NOTHING!
You never know how a team will come out and play, so yes this was a big win against a ranked team!
As for as Chubb going out yeah that hurt them, but we had Maggit and others out also!
Everyone has players out each week, you still go out and play!

I see where OP is coming from for sure. But at this point I don't even care. We needed that win BAD. So let's enjoy it while we can.

"Beat someone, Butch."

"Beat a rival, Butch."

"Just win, Butch."

Tenn wins.

"Georgia was overrated, how is this such a big win?"

I swear I have NO EARTHLY IDEA how some of you enjoy watching sports when no matter what you've gotta complain about something. Alabama had the worst fans when they lose but we are the worst "winners". I feel sorry for your wives.

Let's see....you are complaining because we we just beat a rival who had a 5 game winning streak, loaded with talent, preseason East Division champions pick, top 25 team, in the prime time game this Saturday, in the most important recruiting weekend we have.....

Should I continue?

Snapped a 5 loss streak versus Georgia. Came back from 21 down. I'd say it was a pretty great win. Georgia is a solid football team. Yes they aren't the top of the heap but they definitely aren't a pushover either.

This is not a big win when you consider that UGA has only been to Atlanta twice in the last 15 years and has only one SEC championship in that time period.

Butch will take care of that for me. I don't need to push the fire Butch agenda. Just because I don't believe in the coach makes me a non-fan huh?

No maybe not. It certainly taints your perspective and negatively impacts your credibility.

I've been around this forum for 11 years now. I'm not all that worried about my credibility. I don't think that you will find that I've ever been outlandish or unreasonable in the past. I am happy that a few of you who disagree with my assessment can still be civil about it. I try to see the other side of things even if I don't agree.

Minimizing your own success so your narrative will still work is a great way to never have to admit your wrong
This all day.

Also, there's a difference in looking at who you beat versus how you won. In this instance, I'm happy with both. Try to enjoy the win OP.
