Should we trust Fulmer to make another hire?

Keep in mind Fulmer came in 90% through the worst run coaching search of all time. What were his options? Who wanted to come to this train wreck?

Other than the Pruitt extension, what has he done wrong? He retained Barnes and Vitello, hired Harper who seems to be an upgrade over Holly. Hired a decent Volleyball coach (we're at least competitive, which is something we apparently weren't before, but who really cares).

Phil cares about UT. If you question that, you're just not being reasonable. I get it, this is the internet, but get ahold of yourselves.

Completely disagree about 'looked good for an assistant ready to move up.' I never knew him to be on the radar of any team at the time and he's proven why we were the only idiots dumb enough to hire him.

I could be wrong but I think either ARK or MSST was looking at him at the time.

I know some despise Fulmer on here but I personally love the man for what he has done as a coach for this program. That said he’s never been particularly good at hiring assistants. What would lead us to believe he would be good at hiring a head coach? He’s also in over his head it appears in negotiating a contract.

I really think fans just like the idea of a choice other than a puppet to Haslam. But why are we limited to that or Fulmer? As much as I would love to fire Pruitt and get another coach at this point, I really believe we need to get our house in order from the top.

Just have to hope he will. Throw money at Freeze until he says yes.

Trusting it has nothing to with it imo.

So back when we axed curry I was flat out depressed to hear fulmer was getting the job. I know beyond a doubt he’d go the ultra safe doubt. Going to bama and hiring a coordinator (that couldn’t say no because he had no other options) is exactly that. That’s no identifying a high caliber experienced guy and making it happen. So the fact that he made one of the dumbest contracts in memory should come as no surprise to anyone. Instead of owing Pruitt 6.8M we’ll now owe him 12.8M.

What’s more...for the first time over the last 4 cycles we’ve known we needed a change at coach, we actually have a ridiculously talented and proven coach that wants our job. With Hugh freeze we’d immediately be a contender for the sece. But guess who’s going to “fight like heck” to prevent it. Yep. Fat fulmer. I hope there’s movement going on behind closed doors to remove him permanently from our campus. Bring in Blackburn and hire Hugh freeze. Please god let this happen!!!!

How the Tennessee Vols made a complete mess of their coaching situation

Only thing Fulmer is good at is sucking money from the university of Tennessee. He should be fired along with Pruitt.

I know it seems that way but I think it's just his strategy. Exhibit a "country lawyer" persona then use it against you later. No way he isn't brilliant else he wouldn't be in the position he is in. He's a carbon copy of Phil in his best years.
No. He is truly dumb as dirt and a poor representative of a university.

The rest of the University's sports are doing good. He made a good hire on the women's basketball
team. She is also learning to be a HC. If you think Fulmer is trying to destroy the football program you don't know Fulmer. He bleeds Orange. Where will you find an AD that knows more about football? We haven't had one in my lifetime and I am old. This place is in panic mode. You guy's need to pump the breaks and stop with all the panic crap.

Kellie Harper had plenty of head coaching experience when she took over the Lady Vols basketball program. 5 years at Western Carolina. 4 at North Carolina State. 6 at Missouri State.

Straight up, I don't want a traditional HC situation.

I don't think Fulmer has the disposition to think out if the box. Not his make up. But this is an institution of higher learning with a dang business school. And as a business would you follow a failed hiring process AGAIN? It hasn't worked for us in a decade, and it hasn't worked at a lot of big name schools either. Were not alone in futility. You're getting into the definition of insanity realm.

I think one could draw from such things as alumni, boosters, academics (business and medical schools) and leadership to re-imagine football operations as a whole. Break the pieces down and view alternative approaches to the benefit of the university and program.

As it stands, reentering the traditional coaching process is like rolling JG out as a starter. It. Doesn't. Work.

This is the WORSE season ever, not one of them. We continue to break records that we thought that would ever be broken till we bring along Butch and Pruitt. Pruitt may actually be worse than Butch as a HC.

Going 0-8 in SEC play with a 12 game season is not better than a 2-4 win season that may or may not be completed because of a world pandemic. You’re delusional or a Butch Apologist if you think his last season wasn’t the worst season ever in UT history.
