Shoop confirmed on campus

My favorite quote from the PSU board, for many, many reasons:

"This is a small time staff learning what big time football coaching is all about in real time. They are free to go back to Vandy where they can all be heroes for mediocrity if they are going to cry about it. Shoop is the lone all-star coach on this staff when it comes to X's and O's and that definitely includes Franklin."

True and funny! Shoop has to know Franklin is tanking Penn St. Their offense stinks.

These reports make absolutely no sense... UT knew there was an $800k buyout, why even bother interviewing Shoop if you aren't planning on paying it. They knew they would pay it to get their guy IMO... The only hurdle I can see after that is structure, length and amount of the contract. And they had to have an idea of the price range it would cost per year. And if true as some have suggested, Shoop reached out to CBJ weeks ago, so I'm sure he was a little more flexible in negotiations as well. This is all speculation and opinion on my part on what makes sense before you even think about flying someone in for an interview.

If it was 800 grand coming in I make it an even million going out if he leaves before the 3 years is up.

Definitely. Treat the buyout that would be owed to UT separately.

I like the concept of having equal buyouts. Whatever a coach collects for being fired... he would owe an equal amount for quitting before the term is up. The market will dictate that though.

There's a lot of sense in this post.

We have our guy in Shoop, PSU is rumored to be going after Hoke, Oregon as well

No doubt they blocked the tail number of the flight plan back to PA and that is why its not showing up on FlightAware. Just because the plane he flew down on does not have a flight plan showing up on FlightAware doesnt mean that plane is still at Knox airport.
And of course UT has other planes available.

As someone else pointed out, they could have blocked it coming down but since there was no way he was coming into town unnoticed and because it likely was going to be good news, they chose to let it "fly" unblocked.
The marketing genius of BJ tells me he knew exactly what he was doing here............and now.

I could be mistaken, but Haslam/Pilot tail numbers are blocked, but state planes are not?

Who is going after Hoke, UT or pen State? Sorry if it has been stated else where. Thanks

Penn. state. Supposedly he would be the first choice and some are even saying he will be there tomorrow, Sunday to negotiate. I am also now seeing that if indeed we (UT) are trying to wait till Monday to release info penn state will blow it open before we do. Some grapes are really getting sour too.

Either way, it still works to our advantage... They try to get out in front, everyone knows he left PSU for a better job and he is now our DC...If we go first, everyone knows we stole a damn good DC from PSU and he will be changing us into a championship caliber Defense...

Thanks for the information. We here on Vol Nation have had way to many of these waiting to see who is hired boards over the past several of years. I will be glad once Coach Jones gets his staff together and we can sit back and enjoy the ride. These coaching searches are tiring on a soul but at least they bring some interesting people out with their speculations. All in fun.

Flight Aware has the plane still here, so I checked FR24 and sure enough, that plane is in State College.

I agree my friend.

The only thing you left out which could have been VERY important to both Shoop and to buTch is assistant coaches on the D.

Shoop may have stood strong on insisting that certain of his PSU coaches come along with him at a certain price.

AD Hart may have said no way in hell we're paying that much for D assistants.

buTch may have said Hell No to being forced to fire a certain D assistant coach or 2.

AD Hart and his bosses may have also had to say no to much higher D coaches pay because then we would have been forced to add lots more $$$$ to the pay of our O coaches too which would only be fair.

It's LOTS more to negotiate then only the buyout money and Shoops pay.

Any 1 thing could stop this from happening.

It may not happen or it may already be a done deal as Larry said and I trust everything that he posts on here, check his stats.

Either way we'll all know for certain soon.

The charter's home base is in Kentucky. Just guessing.

It looks like it flew to State College, then to Lexington, and then back to State College.

I see where Shoop supposedly reached out to Butch. I assume that this means they had a relationship prior to this opening. Does anyone have any insight? Have Shoop and Butch worked together previously?
