Say it aint so! Please!

I've been highly critical of Jones' chokejob against Oklahoma but using this stat is completely worthless.

What Jones has done for this program has been exactly what it needed in every way. Dooley left it devoid of underclassmen talent and with no depth on OL/DL/LB. APR was in the toilet. Dooley followed up what Kiffin did and destroyed critical relationships with high school coaches. Kiffin did it in middle-florida (where UT used to recruit well) and Dooley did it in Middle Tennessee and Georgia. Dooley went further and whined about how hard it was to recruit to Tennessee so much to where the national perception was that UT could not be recruited at.

Everything about this program was dead. Jones brought it back to life and, in 2.25 years has made a completely dead program at least relevant enough to where I've honestly heard Bill King talk about Tennessee more than any program... even after the loss. Jones improved the APR of the program and has seen it progress through residual NCAA investigations from the Kiffin years.

I've had my very harsh criticisms for Jones' gameday choices and especially his hiring of DeBord. Criticize those all you want. Don't even try to equate Jones (who works his @ss off) and Dooley (who quit at the midway point of Year 2).

I do hope Jones will turn it around. I'm just not sure he will. I never hoped Dooley would turn it around because I despised him.

I'm a large Jones supporter, but I do appreciate criticisms like this. Not only are they all true, it's not just a slam-piece against him.

There are many things you can call out about CBJ and his teams (so far) so it makes threads like this especially irritating.

I will keep supporting Butch as long as he keeps recruiting at this level. Because sooner or later the talent should take over and make up for his coaching deficiencies (at least I hope so).

To clarify, was putting forth the idea that 7-5 is in no way an acceptable record for this season unless there are significant major injuries to the team. We're 1-1 at this point with 1 win vs one of the "poor" teams on our schedule and 1 loss vs one of the 6 best opponents on our schedule. So, 7-5 likely means we beat the remaining 5 easiest teams on our schedule and go 1-4 vs Florida, Arky, Georgia, Bama and Mizzou...1 and 4.....not acceptable.

Completely different situations. Butch inherited a completely empty cupboard while Drooley still had the remnants of talent from both the Fulmer and Kiffin recruiting classes.

If you were to graph the overall trajectories, we may well be at the same point on the graph, but Butch's curve is trending upwards, while Drooley was on a negative slope.

OP is too dumb to see this. Ignore him.

Someone's getting testy! How long will we keep repeating the "empty cupboard" excuse? I will totally buy that after year 1. I'll even give it to you after year 2. But this is year 3, lets get with the program. What's the excuse if we lose to Florida? McElwain has been left with an empty cupboard and is in year 1, what's the excuse then? It's year 3, it's time to separate himself from Dooley's record, different situation or not..

Dude, this is after year 2

Dooley DID NOT inherit Dooley's mess!

However, some doubt about Jones is creeping up on me. :ermm:

And another thing thats probably already been discussed a million times since Saturday....the next time somebody comes up with the bright idea of checkerboarding the stadium, they should be shot.

With our best OL out for year and arguably our best DE out for year, it's getting to be bad on the injury front.

It has no bearing on anything other than maybe looks cool to recruits and on TV

But look back at when Dooley was here. We weren't competitive and now we are.

That's completely false. During Dooley's final year we were very competitive in every game other than Bama and Vandy (the team quit on him before Vandy game since he was basically already fired). But we were in it every other game all the way to the end (against much better SCjr, UGA, UF, and Mizzo teams then we are going to be facing this year). With just a little better defense we probably would have won somewhere between 8-10 games that year.

Was the SEC stronger when Dooley was here or has it been stronger while Butch has been the coach?

Clearly when Dooley was here. Bama and LSU dominated everyone big time and winning NC. As opposed to SEC not winning the NC during last 2 years. Also, the same UGA team we almost beat that year came very close to beating Bama for SEC championship.

I agree. There's no doubt that Butch inherited a mess of a roster, and that he's brought in more talent, but imo his results aren't any better so far than Dooley's when you take everything into consideration. Add those results onto the fact that after three years the Doolster's @#$ was canned, but it's sacrilegious to even question Lyle in his third year, and I honestly don't get it.

I was a big Dooley supporter all the way to the end but there is a big difference in recruiting. Butch is recruiting great players at all positions where Dooley only brought in great offensive players (especially WR's and O-line). My personal opinion is that Dooley was doomed after Wilcox left - if he would have stayed Dooley could and probably would have turned it around in terms of W-L during his 3rd year.

The fact that Butch has more talent than Dooley ever dreamed of yet has the same record simply blew my mind. I believe / believed in Butch and this fact just hurts, that all.

That's debatable. Dooley had a very talented offense in 2012

You can't honestly think the look of the stadium had any bearing on the outcome?! Really? The stadium looked extremely incredible to the camera lens. The shots from field level up into the stands were outstanding. The crowd was fired up and recruits could see the fanaticism of the UT fanbase.

You have to be kidding with the recruiting O-Line, right. I mean he didn't have a single one his last class.:whistling:

Dooley and Butch have the same record through 27 games. No!!!!

Dooley's trajectory was down, Butch's is up, despite what Dooley left him. Surely you get that, don't you?

How can you start a thread with such a disjointed thought?

If you put your head in the oven and you feet in the freezer...your average temperature will be normal. Sometimes facts are meaningless.

I'm glad you didn't say this Saturday night. There were so many oblivious beyond drunk folks on here, I'm sure a few would've tried it.

Clearly better now from top to bottom!
