Sam Leavitt extends visit

Question....Why would we want a QB that's out until at least August which will be the start of Fall camp? At least JA had 5 months before the season. Can't wrap my mind around it.
He arrived in Mid May. About 100 days before kickoff. Leavitt is not necessarily out until August. He just won’t be available in the Soring and there’s not really organized activities until August.

The. Why are we paying them to sit on the bench? It’s dumb. Play what you got get a serviceable 3rd qb for safety and go spend on defense. Like I said it’s like 5-7 million just sitting there. News flash. We aren’t winning now
With Ament and some of these other expensive HS players across sports, I'm becoming more and more convinced that taking lower rated and lower priced HS recruits to develop and paying more for proven/mature players in the portal is a smarter approach. This league just doesn't suffer fools or freshmen.

Having said that, I'd be looking for staffers and coaches who knew a legit SEC/college player when they see one and also knew what to do with the kid once they had him. Not sure our team has enough of those dudes.

As a program I don't think Tennessee is in position to play an unproven QB. We have to win now. If we go 8-5 next year everyone will want Heup fired. If GMac or Faizon was ready we wouldn't be looking for a starting QB. And honestly, I don't believe the recruiting services are right all the time. Some people look at your ranking and how high your rated. Which is not always correct.
Why is GMac not ready?

Look, Mendoza was a 2 star. We don’t need to spend millions on a qb. We need to get one on the team that can play. Why in the hell do we have Mac and Brandon sitting on the bench taking 5-7 mil in nil? Take your lumps, spend on defense and play what you got
Where does the $5-7M figure come from?

Risk of his injury interfering with his ability to function at maximum level too great to pay much ......if at all.
We struck out on everyone else or appears. It's Leavitt, Aguilar or roll with what we got. Watch us have to roll with Gmac next year. You can feel it coming.

Staying for medical evaluation and procedures and deal is said to be 3 million plus. The type of injury he has is said to be some nine months so some gamble and risks to this for sure.
First time I've heard 9 months and $3mil is a lot of money.
Guess we may see if the 🍊 juice is worth the squeeze

I worry that continuing to add portal QBs will hamper your ability to recruit good high school players. I'm sure Brandon wasn't planning to sit behind a portal QB Two Years before being given an opportunity to play!!
If Manning can do it,he's not too good either. If a player has confidence in his skill set he would never shy away from competition.

Faz would be abs G-Mac is the backup, which everyone always thinks is the best qb. If Heup believed he was good enough, do you think he would go after a high level transfer qb? It'll work itself out in the end, but he knows what he has.
True,if GMAC was all that he would have beat out Joey. .He did not.

I thought the extension might be medically related also. I've been distracted by life so I've not tried to follow closely. If he checks out medically..... big if IMO..... he's likely the best QB we can get.

Yes ,if he was truly 5 star year 2 he would have been ready ..
You know that 5 star was a rating assigned by some guys, that may have been feeling generous that day. Yall put way too much stock in the evaluations of pay sites. It would be best, if they didn't give out star ratings.

People are saying Leavitt. I don't think it's a smart use of 4 million dollars personally.
Let's also remember that you want your senior starting QB to set the tone and be a mentor to your young guns waiting in the wings. If the things rumored about Leavitt are true, is this the kind of influence you're comfortable with if you're a head coach?

Yes, I'm serious. DC better be an improvement. We have 2 5 star QBs on the roster and are spending for another in the portal. It's time to put up or shut up.
All of that takes time. We know for sure, that it takes 2 years for WR to grasp the offense. They normally break out in YR 2. It has been said that it takes 2 years to grasp JK concepts, unless he can bring in his players from Penn State. Variable are older players can process information faster, in most cases. So 8 -5 is a possibility. I already know fans will foolishly revolt, because they thought we were going to win a championship? We will be right back in the coach market, rinse and repeat.

Used to you wanted your 5 star QBs starting in year 2. I don't get it either.
The portal and NIL has changed that. It's so rare to see good young QBs starting now. It was a very 90s / 00s trend because that's often what you had to do to get the best QBs. Now there's so many good readily available older QBs in the portal, it's difficult to be competitive with a 1st or 2nd year QB. Though, not impossible --- but look around --- almost all the best teams are now lead by upperclass QBs.
