RW headed back to UT

Had the pleasure of meeting him when he was with the Showboats. His wife actually worked at a dry cleaners on Mt Moriah in Memphis with my older brother. Got to know him over the years in foundation events run through his agent. Nobody's perfect, but the earlier John Rocker comparison stupid.
Good point. Rocker was simply trying to be Dennis Rodman and look cool and controversial for SI. White really believed his own lunacy.

hat, if Elton John found a cure for AIDS; brought real peace to the Middle East; stopped the disaster brewing at Fukushima; balanced the federal budget; and got the US Senate and House to agree on anything...you'd still be unable to get past the point that EJ was gay, and a piano player to boot.

I notice you ignored Freak's posts about RW's freshman and sophomore years. Why? Do the numbers not fit your opinion?

You're pi**ing on the grave of a dead man. And a Vol legend. He earned that title. It's not for you, or anyone, to question that. Never a wise move. And you're smarter than that.

Or so I thought.

Go Vols.
1. I'm an Elton John fan.
2. What numbers did Freak post to show White's alleged productivity as a freshman and sophomore?
3. Death doesn't give you immunity for your actions in life.

No. Rocker was a roid raged, alcoholic baseball player. Again, great comparison.

If you're asking for White's stats:

Fr. 32 tackles 19 assists 2 fumble recoveries and 2 sacks.
So. 61 tackles 34 assists 1 fumble recovery and 8 sacks.

The 8 sacks in '81 was the third-best total in Tennessee history at the time. Although, I think those stats were only tracked back to 1970.

I notice you are avoiding addressing the substance of the comparison. Oh, that's right. You knew Reggie White. You don't like to have to face the fact his ignorant babble was no difference in substance from the lunacy of the Rockers of the world.

So, the comments of baseball players and football players should be judged by different standards? Interesting concept.

You said that Rocker and Reggie were basically the same off the field. That is the ignorant statement of 2011. Bigoted ignorance at that, in your own words. Rocker was full of rage and hate. Reggie wasn't.

Yeah, White's comments on other races and gays just ooze peace, love, and understanding. They were both intolerant jagaloons.

This is the best transcript I could find of RW's speech to the Wisconsin legislature. It is long, but worth reading. I'm guessing that many posters would be reading this for the first time, and I look forward to seeing others' reactions/opinions. I will say one thing: passing it off as "racist" or "homophobic" is a tragic misunderstanding.

Occult Remarks by Reggie White to the Wisconsin State Assembly

Reggie White is a bigot according to Hat?

Reggie White bad

Jim Calhoun
Bob Huggins
Lute Olson good

I think hat could be just joshing us.
He is like the George Castanza of Volnation. If he says something, the opposite is a solid option to consider.

I didn't find his comments on other races offensive, at all. Some are actually somewhat humorous. He did, in fact, spend a large part of his time summarizing the crime and imprisonment rates of black men.

The man was a devout Christian and spoke on the teachings of the Bible, which he held as Truth. Unfortunately, his view on homosexuality will not sit well with some, but that doesn't make it wrong.

My guess is that he did more good for the underserved and underclassed citizens of our country than 99.9% of the population will ever do.

RIP, Reggie. Can't wait to meet you one day.

This is why you don't try to sound cool and use people's initials in your threads/posts.

You will only catch hell for it and noone knows what you're talking about.

Well put kd. I never viewed Reggie as 'hateful' and I thought his comments toward individual races were intended to be complimentary.

finally, a good summer thread, ironically based on initials......White got the calling but never went to seminary or trained in theology so most of his preaching was quite primitive...his defensive play, however, was spiritual.....hat, where are your defenders....only papa vol showed up....

Looks like solid stats. Hat, you have no argument
