Rumor Mill

He is also, perhaps, the most respected high school coach in the state. We desperately needed help with recruiting within the state post-Dooley. It would have been a very shrewd move for any incoming coach, but grider wouldn't have done it for just anyone.

You are defending something that didn't happen and sounds ridiculous to even suggest that it would happen. So stupid. I would have hired mater dei's coach because he's way more accomplished than Grider. He could have done a better job.

My point, you are so defensive about this made up scenario. In a perfect world your idea comes true and we win a national championship. In a different world, we hired a high school coach who doesn't do a great job and we don't recruit well considering Grudens never recruited before.

Care to argue another made up scenario that has no bearing on anything?

You seem to be unaware that you are the only one arguing. As I have stated, I really don't care if you believe me.

Wow the AD actually having weekly meetings. Did it occur to you that made they already have prescheduled meetings on Sundays? Let's just start a rumor every day.

Sunday: AD Meetings Day
Monday: Jon Gruden Day
Tuesday: Chip Kelly Day
Wednesday: Bobby Petrino Day
Thursday: Mike Leach Day
Friday: Any Up and Comer Day
Saturday: Butch is Fired Day

This is getting out of hand. Until you have something concrete don't post any of this rumor crap.

Yeah, don't post any of this rumor crap!(pretty sure that the rumors will stop now)

part of the reason successful high school coaches rarely get called up is the partisanship of HS football. The guy who wins a lot has a lot of enemies.

Grider and Gruden have a history together.

Hubbs even went on record about the staff that Gruden was putting together and the Tennessee feel that it was going to have.

It didn't happen last time for a variety or reasons but those reasons were on the Tennessee side.

I know you're not new around here. Rumors, Grumors, and horse-s8it speculation is what makes this place go around.

No I'm not new around here but anyone could post a thread like this. "The AD is having meetings today." Get out of here with that BS. The AD has meetings almost every day I'm sure. All these "rumors" are turning this site into a season long episode of Gossip Girls.

Gruden had the weekend stayover in Knoxville planned for quite awhile. He wanted to visit with his son since he was going to be in the area anyway for MNF. The timing of the visit means nothing to our coaching situation. So dont read anything into or out of him being here other than he wanted to visit his college aged son and spend a weekend at a place he is very fond of. Its as simple as that.

So you're saying there's a chance?

He's also known for hyperbole, likes to toot his own horn and thinks way too much of himself. He's not his daddy, that's for sure and I wouldn't take anything he says as the final word. "Most respected", nay, not in coaches circles.

I know him. Played for him. Visited him many times. Know his brother. It does not matter, anything during that time was rumor. How many folks stated he would be our coach. Never happened because he it wasn't true. Even if it was on UTs side as to why he didn't come here. Who cares? He still didn't come.

For those of you who think this is going to go well, please ask yourself when was the last time we made a good hire. So move on from Gruden or Grider.

Ask him about Pirate Defense he created when we played Trousdale in 97. Eddie Moore should have had a ring but Grider cost us big time.

He is overly confident. I would agree with that. Understands how to win and does most of the time. But he flirts with cocky. Why his players love playing for him. He's good st what he does.

Does anyone know why Gruden wasn't a VIP on the field and instead sitting in the stands?

Homeboy was taking in the game to see the pain and torment through the eyes of the fans....sparking up the nostalgia of getting his first shot on the sidelines...to come be the savior of Tennessee football :dunno:

I’m not arguing for or against you, but Grider and Gruden are friends who have a long history. It makes perfect sense that Grider would have been the person Gruden asked to serve in that capacity. They were Grad assistants together here under Majors, so it’s not like Grider was some lifelong dude who rose from some high school offensive line position to kissing babies at the local pie eating contest.
