Rivals class ranking

If we limp to NSD in the top 10 or just under I'd be satisfied. Next year is another matter.

Considering the events that have unfolded over the past two months, you should be on your knees thankful for the way this class is holding together.

If we end up in the top 15 I will be happy. With everything that has happened in the last couple weeks, we will be fortunate to finish with a top 15 class.

Having a top 10 class means nothing to me. Even Fulmer (check history) had top 10 classes very often, also top 5 classes very often, TOP class many times as well. This was before everybody learned to use the computer and twitter and myspace and etc... to get recruits. Sometimes it is best to get the under rated players that play as a TEAM. Having a top recruiting class doesn't mean you are going to win all of the time or even make it to a BCS. To me recruiting rankings are just a conversation piece. Doesn't mean we are going to win or lose.

I agree. If you do not develop the player or have a good system to plug them in to, a 5* will do you no good.

Just laughing at the folks who laughed at us. Hows it feel to be looking up to us once again. Did you enjoy your short time that you had a chance to rub things in our face. I hope you did...

Haha. Get a life. What was funny was watching 90k+ poop themselves with our "looking up" program snatching your perfect season up. You have but 1 individual to thank for that one- The Lord Himself. God gave you a break. Be glad, and go rejoice somewhere else. Like hmmm....WalMart, they have a winter sale on Textbooks.

The stars aren't a reflection of a players overall potential to my understanding. They are a reflection of how quickly a prospect should/will contribute. A 5* is expected to have the ability to contribute early, whereas a 3* (in the rankings opinions) needs some time to develope. Kids upsides and 1000 other variables tends to even things out after a year or two on campus. Of course I'm speaking in general terms and there are exceptions to most rules. My point a 3* may very well be as good/better than a 5* by years 2-4.

I agree, but it sure is nice to have 5* contribution all four years.

There are always examples of top classes with high-end recruits where the product on the field does not correlate to wins or championships. See Tennessee Classes of 2005 (Rivals #4) and 2007 (Rivals #3). However, it is more likely that, if you have a top class with high-end recruits, the product on the field will be much better and produce more wins. See Alabama Classes 2007 (rivals #10), 2008 (Rivals #1), 2009 (Rivals #1) and Florida Classes 2006 (rivals #1), 2007 (Rivals #1), 2008 (Rivals #3).

This is not to discredit the "coach'em up" aspect of recruiting or the diamond in the rough scenario. But, on the other hand, the numbers do not lie. If you have top recruiting classes year in and year out, and your head coach is not a seven year old driving a porsche (See LSU and Les Miles in 2008 and 2009), you are FAR MORE LIKELY to put a quality product on the field and compete for championships.

There's always somebody to find the negative in everything.

I think we fill the spots. We are currently @11 with 19 commits. Other schools are going to be moving also but many have full slots. As those other schools fill up UT looks better and better to the ones remaining.

Yeah, when all is said and done, there are still gonna be about 80 DI programs that would like to have UT's class. Vandy, UK, and South Carolina (except SC in 07) never sniff the top 10, but they usually are competitive. I know our standards are much higher, but don't fall in love with the rankings. It's more important to effectively evaluate talent, address needs, and develop the players you do get.

You know who else doesn't care about top 10 recruting classes?? NOBODY WHO COACHES DIVISION 1!

Besides ..... 7 of the top 10 will be shuffled in or out of it by the day after signing day anyways. It doesn't matter what's on paper before then.

Not true. "X" talked about it all the time. He should have never gotten past coaching Playstation teams.

By all accounts CDD is a great recruiter of talent. You guys will be fine. UT is UT for crying out loud.

Negative Vol fans should take note of this. What does it say about you as a fan if Florida fans have to remind you of your identity?
