Rivals class ranking

lol recruiting rankings are just for the fans...i always tell that to my cane brothers...

Of course they are...Which is why I say they only pay attention to them when they are doing good. If they arent than they dont matter. In all reality you are correct, but it is not coincidence that the last decade of NC winners were in the top 5 in recruiting year in year out.

I would argue that Coach Dooley has done very well maintaining a solid class for us. Yeah, we're not pulling down the best recruiting class in the country, but this allows us not to lose ground to the rest of the league. Admittedly, Saban has Bama rolling. One step at a time.

what do the rankings mean now? Nothing. It's not feb 4th is it? Once all the LOI's get in, that's when i'll evaluate the class. Is another thread like this going to get started if we get another commit and we're then ranked 11th with over a week left until signing day? woo hoo, we got a commit, let's start a thread about our new class recruiting ranking.....

Some of these top teams have more commits than they can actually sign. There will be some shuffling nearer NSD. Be patient true VOLS fans. If we come out with a top 10 after this years debacle, lets be happy, congratulate CDD, and look forward to better times ahead. More than anything, let these recruits know they are welcome. If I was a recruit reading this board, I would never commit to go to school here.

#1 classes + good coaching = championships.

UF 2006 #1 = Titles in 06 and 08
Bama 2008,09 #1 = Titles in 09
LSU 2001, 2003 #1 = Title in 03,07
Texas 2002 #1 = Title in 05
USC 2004 #1 = Title in 04, 4 straight BCS bowl games

It matters.

underachieving team of the decade goes to Florida State, and Tennessee is a close second with multiple top 5 or top 10 recruiting classes. That's Bowden and Fulmer for you.

Florida State: #4 in 2002, #3 in 2004, #2 in 2005, #3 in 2006, #9 in 2008, #7 in 2009

this is an awesome job by the coaches in knoxville. im not sure i could even come close to the results. this could be a sign that tennessee is what has held this class intact not anyone person!!!!!

I agree. We tried Hollywood and it got shoved in our face. Doesn't work in East Tennessee. CDD has a tough sell right now. Success on the field breeds success in recruiting. We need to settle for a solid class this year and get the program turned in the right direction. Got to get the right players too. Seems some of those high "starred" players the previous coach brought in are not going to benefit us at all. (Edwards and Richardson).

it does help alot, but some of it too is consistant good recruiting, both for great, skilled depth and to get the best players together from several classes

Consistent, good recruiting is critical to success especially in the SEC, but if you want to win the title, you need that one great awesome recruiting class with amazing players to put you over the top.

right i agree, but still you need all 3 of those components for the desired success, not just the two initially mentioned

I think everybody agrees that a high class ranking in recruiting alone isn't going to do all it takes to even go to a BCS Bowl or bowl game. There are too many pieces of the puzzle especially to pull off a BCS Championship. Luck is right at the top of that (right bama?), and thanks Arkansas! Many of these top guys don't even make the field, get injured, can't make grades, pulling guns on people, etc..... then coaching comes into play. Someone could fill up a page FULL of the variables. The reason I read this thread to whoever mentioned it was simply to make this point. The reason I made this point is because some people are under the impression if we get a #1 recruiting class or even top 10 recruiting class we've won some kind of award or something. It's only part of the equation, but helps to have GREAT TEAM PLAYERS, with the right attitude, good work ethics in school and on the field. I enjoy this process too and have been following the recruiting part of it as long as I've followed The Vols. I have to admit that I enjoyed it a LOT more in they previous years than I have in the past few. Tennessee use to have a leg up on most schools since we would travel across the country for players, but now everybody does it. Yea, Fla St and UT use to always be at the top. USC wasn't in the top for a good while there if I remember right. Someone find the web address that shows the top 5 recruiting schools for the past 10-20 years. There has to be some kind of archive online but I can't seem to find it. Go Vols.

Some of these Alabama boys will put your lights out.

Alabama boys (putting our lights out) has nothing to do with it. Its the high number of African Americans in the state of Alabama (and MS, FL, GA, LA for that matter) that is the key to success. Why is the SEC such a powerful conference? I'll let you take a look at the demographics of the United States and then you can tell me. I remember Nebraska's quarterback (Frazier) running all over the football field in their National championship years. I thought wow what an athlete and at Nebraska no less. Turns out he is from South Florida. I just smiled.

well considering we fell all the way to 16th on rivals, i'd say getting back up to 12th is pretty good with a new head coach. now please, can we get a DC sometime soon???
