Rick Barnes gets emotional

Yes you can.

You don’t make that last second foul call in a game situation like that. Especially since Edwards kicked his leg out resulting in contact.

Turner just played great defense on that play.

We’ll have to agree to disagree folks. I agree that we should have played better and hit the FT’s we were given in the first half for sure. BUT even if we had hit them who can guarantee that they wouldn’t have scored more points to make up for them. BUT the thing that bothers me is in a close game to have the REF’s decide who wins the game because of making bad calls one way or the other. And also his foot was out of bounds when the ball was thrown to him before he took the shot and “got fouled.” That was why I said before the game I hoped for a fairly called game and certainly, in the last minute, that was not fairly called. Edwards had been kicking out his leg all night and no calls were made. Our year has ended and there’s nothing we can do about it...but wait till next year. Still super proud of our guys and our great Coach Barnes! Go Vols!!!

I agree, that was a horrendous call. Wouldn't have been in that position in the first place though if we had made our free throws throughout the game.
You are right to a point. You cannot rule out the tremendous show of determination this team showed in the second half when a lot of teams would have just called it in, quit and gotten blown out. They fought to the end of regulation, the a strong fatigue factor set in and the rally crashed to a close.

Contact with a shooter is a foul. How many times have you seen a defender barely touch a shooters fingertips after the ball is released and a foul is called much less a defender running into the body of a defender. A shooter has the right to land on a jump shot. If you ask me he Turner should have just let him shoot it and we take our chances. Bad calls are made all over the place in a game. Officiating did not cost us last night. We beat ourselves.
I went and watched game over.. 35 times either a Purdue or Vol got hit by a body on a shot .. with no foul called ..and 17 of those the ball was still in hands of shooter and no foul called ... on the last play of regulation a ref decides to decide the game.. on a shot that the ball had left hands of shooter before any contact . If you are gonna call touch body fouls then they missed about 35 of them ...... but decide to call the most critical time and not let the players decide game. The ref had to get his nose in it . Pitiful

So we are expected to win every game by at least 6-8 points so that the refs can’t change the outcome?
Unfortunately, that’s what it takes in all contact sports, not just basketball. You have to out perform the competition by enough of a margin to ensure some bad calls don’t cost you the game - just ask the Saints.

Saints fans raised a ruckus about it and got a rule changed. Just because that’s the way it is doesn’t mean that’s the way it should be

Can't ultimately blame the refs this time. They didn't help, but hit free throws and we win the game...Plain and simple. You can blame missed free throws and Ryan Cline.
When teams are closely matched, how the calls go makes a difference. No teams plays at 100%, 100% of the time. Tennessee has had two calls go against them at critical times which were not fouls. The refs call played a big part in Purdue beatingTennessee. That is fact.

I can't speak for all 35 you saw but not all contact is a foul. Defender has to initiate contact. So if the shooter hits a defender in legal guarding position it wouldn't be called. Point blank...officials call games the incorrect way every game. I also can't stand when officials call something from across the floor as they are supposed to be focused on the area they are officiating. Also hate calling ticky tack fouls as make ups. All I'm saying that in my eyes the last play was a foul so I'm not that upset as we had other opportunities. If he only hit his leg it would be different but he basically went hip to hip with him.

We know they can't call fouls on all contact. But there were plenty of those where contact made by defender. Ball was gone from shooter hands . Should have not been a whistle .. wonder how a foul was not called in the Auburn and Fla game the kid from Fla got mugged by 3 Aub players and No call ??? Whistle was eaten .. what?? And this was called. Really ..
