Report: Florida already discussing firing Napier

...in several more years, maybe. If the TV rights deals continue to increase.

No school is going to pay any coach 20% more than Kirby Smart right now, unless there was no buyout or some other highly unusual stipulation that no coach would agree to.
If you have top 10 resources and can get Cignetti for 16 million, you do it. It makes you money.

...if he wins national titles.

I'd be all for UT to sign Heupel to a contract that paid him $16m in any season where he won a title, but like $4m if he went 7-5. It would 100% be worth it. No coach would agree to that though, which is why no coaches have contracts like that.

I was looking for a nicer word than pussy. He won't stay at Indiana because he is a great coach.
He absolutely will because Mark Cuban will give him whatever it takes to keep him. You're living in the past. In the NIL era anyone with deep enough pockets can win at a high level. Indiana has DEEP pockets. In the NIL/Portal era, $ is what matters. All the other stuff is secondary.

If they match Florida and Penn State then yeah I guess he could stay. I crunched some numbers and for a top program the difference in being the playoff every year versus being 7-5 ish is about 20-40 million a year. (at the high end of that at first and then leveling off)

No, Indiana will not have the same resources as Florida or Penn State. Ticket prices and stadium size are a great proxy for that. These things also map to apparel sales and contracts. Saban didn't leave Michigan State and come south for no reason. And Michigan State is/was way more committed to winning at sports than Indiana. While the portal has evened things up a good bit, going back to one window will start to create more disparity. Also, you used to be glad Butch Jones was at Tennessee.
I take it you don't actually follow college football news (or even this thread)?

The inability of a lot of people to place themselves in that coach's shoes is amazing to me. If you've ever worked any type of job, it's easy to see why Cignetti would stay at Indiana.

You've got an office job that pays $100k/year. Not only are you successful there, but your bosses love you because you've brought a level of success to that position that hasn't been seen...ever. You have an opportunity to go to another company that is more prestigious, a more recognized brand, has a nicer office, etc., but also would be a much more stressful, scrutinized, and complicated job. The previous guy in that position, who was doing a fairly good job, made basically the same money you did and just got ran out of town on a rail because he failed to meet their very high expectations.

Are you jumping to take that job?
The world of college football isn't what it was even 2, 3 years ago. NIL has leveled the playing field and we're at a point in salaries where a few million more isn't that meaningful to a coach. The playoff expansion and the way schedules are shaking out makes it more like an NFL head coach trying to make a decision to jump to the same job elsewhere rather than a college coach of the past "upgrading".

This is why Penn State (and probably Florida) will have stepped on their own membrane here.

For real.

Urban Meyer, Kiffin, and Drinkwitz are probably the only semi-realistic candidates for them that I would say are equal or better than Franklin. Curt Cignetti isn't gonna leave Indiana, imo.

So who else does that leave? Matt Campbell, who has like a 35% winning percentage vs ranked opponents? Or Matt Rhule who is barely over .500 for his college HC career and is winless against ranked teams at Nebraska?

UF fans about to be really disappointed.
Kiffin wouldn't touch that dumpster fire with a 50-foot pole.

Urban burnt all bridges.

Highly doubtful on Drinkwitz. But it would be a lateral move from one trailer dump place to another.

Think they will hire other OVC type guy like Billy

Cignetti just got $11.6 after a year and a half LOL. Kirby will be passed in a year MAX.

As much as I want to believe that LK has matured and grown as a coach, I am reminded this is the same guy with the Joey Freshwater profile.

Never count him out doing something completely dumb.

dude must not know that Napier was hired by Florida and is way more ass than Franklin has ever been.
Florida couldn't hire Franklin. No way he goes to Florida. Why would he do that? He makes 8 million/yr. Florida is dysfunctional. It's going to be really interesting to see who takes that job. All Hal is doing here is setting expectations. But many Florida fans don't trust him at all and claim he is a UAA puppet. Not all though.

They aren’t going to hire anyone proven. If they fire Billy it’ll be another cold hire.

I’ll believe they care about championships when they hire someone more exciting than a dull crayon.

Florida fans point to their 200 million in revenue to suggest that the program has enough resources to compete for championships but that is no longer the case. What they don't seem to realize is that in the UAA there are exponentially more mouths to feed than at most Athletic Departments off of that 200 million dollars. A lot of greedy people with their hands in the pot.

And of course revenue doesn't = NIL. I heard a Florida booster suggest that Lagway is being paid so much there's no way he transfers. But it's all coming from corporate interests and not the Florida booster collective.

After signing an extension making him the 3rd highest coach in CFB.

I mean Cignetti at 12 million is a little different discussion than him at 8. I still think he is gone in a couple of years when he sees he can't win a National Championship there.

Why would he leave? I know he's not in the most fertile recruiting ground but the portal and bags of cash solve problems of that sort. And he's winning at a high level with a rag tag group that includes guys who were already there, several 0 star recruits he brought from James Madison, and the portal players Mark Cuban's money bought him in the offseason. Who is going to pay him more than Indiana would pay to keep him? He doesn't sound like he has one foot out the door with a 15 million dollar buyout to hire him away.
