Report: Florida already discussing firing Napier

I think Drinkwitz would only go to clear step up, which at the moment is only Penn St. I don't think he would go to UF. Kiffin seems more likely to go to LSU, imo, if/when that job opens.
FLORIDA is a very clear step up over Mizzou. Bigger Stadium, bigger fan base, more $$$$$$, prestige. National Championships. With NIL, all it takes is a COACH. (see Cignetti) Florida is a perennial top 10 football program. They will get it back too. Mizzou, a recent top 30 program under Drink, has historically only sniffed the top 30.

Penn State: Brian Kelly
LSU: Lane Kiffin
Florida: Alex Golish
Ole Miss: Clark Lea
South Florida: Ed O
Clemson: Jeff Lebby
South Carolina: Sweeney
Virginia Tech: Beamer
James Franklin: won’t coach but he’ll broadcast
Miss State: Brian Hartline
PSU - I can see Kelly at PSU. He is a misfit at LSU
LSU - no idea
Florida - Golesh and that sucks for us
Ole Miss - Kiffin realizes how good he has it there - stays
Vandy - Lea likes the challenge at his alma mater - stays
South FL - no idea; thought EdO was hot tubbing with coeds?
Clemson - Lebby makes sense
SC - no idea
VT - Franklin fits in ACC; consistent bowl team is good for VT
Ms St - don’t know

I hope Beamer doesn’t come to VT. I think that it would not be a good situation for him or the school. So many ways for the dynamic to go wrong. I don’t like Franklin but he can win in the ACC and VT would be very happy with his 9 wins and a high level bowl results.

If PSU wants to throw money around Kelly will bite the hook like a dumb bass. I’m not sold he likes coaching in the SEC, he makes it clear he hates the media, and he’s at yet another stop where he’s done all he’s going to do.

Mizzu's NIL collective right now is better than UFs. That could change with a better coach that UF donors believe in. But right now, Mizzu is giving Drink basically everything he has asked for.

And UF hasn't been a perennial Top 10 team in over a decade. Their recruiting edge they once held in Florida under Meyer has vanished, with FSU and Miami both being nationally relevant again and pumping a ton of money into their programs. Then you have UCF who is now in the BIG 12 and starting to make a name for themselves nationally. Even USF currently has the best odds to make the CFP as the highest ranked G5 champ, which would certainly go a long ways to their recruiting.

Florida isn't the top tier job it used to be.

Kelly won't be going to PSU unless he is fired at LSU, or there is some sort of agreement in replace from both sides to drop the buyout. His buyout at LSU is way too much for PSU to absorb with the Franklin buyout.

In the chance that Kelly does leave, LSU likely throws everything they have at Kiffin. They tried to get him as OC back in 2016 before he took the FAU job.

Virtually zero chance that Clemson is firing Dabo.

If USF makes the playoffs, then Golesh stays at USF until at least after the playoffs. That means the only schools looking at him will be schools that get their HC poached in early December and aren't too concerned about the early signing period. UF certainly won't be one of those schools. If USF misses the playoffs, someone is absolutely snatching him up by the first week of December.

Franklin to VT just makes too much sense, imo. He is exactly the sort of coach they are looking for, but have previously not been able to land for various reasons. I could also see him at FSU or UF since he has a 2nd home in Florida already, I just don't know if those schools can sell his poor record against elite teams to their fan bases.

Florida can at least get construction done before the season. What an eye sore Missouri's Faurot Field has been this year.

That last statement is not true at all. My daughter has begged me for three years to leave East Tennessee and there is no comparison to that hot sticky hell hole. And I am old.
I agree with ya brother. My daughter lives in Tampa, she's not asking me to move she already knows I'm not moving there. My wife and I met in college in Florida, but we aren't moving back there.

I really can't think of an existing SEC coach who would take the gator job. That was why they ended up with OVC Billy.

Plus, the current admin is horrific and getting worse.

Gotta be one of the small FL coaches or some Deion type deal.

He's a good coach. But man, they need some excitement in that program. The last 3 guys (McElwain, Mullen, Napier) have brought zero excitement in terms of personality.
I agree that none of them have a dynamic personality but the issue ultimately is that they haven't won at a level that was deemed good enough. Ultimately a coach's personality is viewed through the lens of are the winning enough. If Saban didn't win enough, his personality would have worn thin incredibly quickly. He won all the time, so it became endearing.

Heupel doesn't exactly ooze charisma either (at least publicly) but he wins.

They for sure have contacted Franklin to gauge his interest. Not sure he wants to get back to SEC. I could see him waiting a year to get back into coaching. Florida is a mess right now. No President, unpopular AD, angry big money boosters.

I'll be shocked if Napier is still the coach next Monday. This Sat outcome is irrelevant.
