Your test is not as cut and dried as you make it out to be. It is inconceivable to me that if I use a certain term, it is offensive to a large group of people; however, if they use the term to refer to themselves or others within the group, it is perfectly acceptable.

I would not accept the term if I were a member of the group even if used by a member of my group. If a Native American calls me a redskin, it would not be acceptable to me.

I know the example that you are using. I can't answer why some in the group find it acceptable because I would not.

Btw, I feel the need to mention I also have a German heritage and I identify more with European heritage, so I call myself white. But I deff look like a Native American and I feel a strong connection with that heritage.

I wouldn't care if I was called a whop, a Nazi, or even a honkey. I would take pride in who I am by that. You'd find this funny that I've been called a "mark ass n***a before. That's what the last person who tried to mug me and my buddy called us. Neither of us are black.

Why get bootyhurt over meaningless words. Words are only meaningful to the person who are offended by them. I don't call people names because its just not my style. I'd rather make you step up or step down.

Boom! Here we go! Should be a great game! I made the mistake of taking that clown off ignore to see what he said. Never. Never. Again.

He is the first person I'm putting on ignore, in the almost five years I've been on here.

I'm not sure Suarez is actually ready to play, even though hey have him in.

not sure if serious...
If he's willing to throw out the n word to prove a point and get banned, I respect him more than I did. Dudes got a pair if you ask me.

I agree with almost nothing he says though, and I do think a lot of it is ignorant. But if he feels that way he feels that way.

I'm just happy all of this is in the off topic thread this time.

I respect Burger now. The impending ban was well worth proving your point. Good night sweet prince

I only used the word to prove a point. Not to offend anyone. I don't choose to use the word in my normal social dealings. I actually got lectured by somebody how the a version is not offensive while the er version is.

I usually don't use racist terms because how people can feel about them. I'd rather avoid that ordeal.

Rooney BARELY missed sneaking it into the top corner on a free kick from the top of the box. It feels like he's been around forever.

I see your point, to an extent. However, I believe it's his weakness and insecurity, not strength, that cause him to defend his positions to such a strong degree.

Hot like a parked car, I sound weird like n**** with a hard "R".

Sooo... let me ask a question about "hate speech." What if your religious convictions cause you to identify various activities as "sin" and you choose not to encourage or "aid and abet" those sinful activities? What if you discriminate who you serve based on your convictions?

Should the United States of America, land of the free and home of the brave, make laws or judgments that penalize you for your convictions? Not talking about civil efforts like boycotting, etc., but legal actions?

This is the off topic thread, right? <checking the title>

I'm not here to offend anyone, just thought of the question in light of the context.

Damn fine point.

I think you're making more of a statement than a question.

I don't think "hate speech" in and of itself is illegal in this country. This is why the government can not force the redskins to change their name, they can just strip their ability to make money exclusively off of the name.

Remember the old saying, sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me? I've been called everything from a retard to an ugly guy who should not live. I've dealt with hell for a long time for being somewhat disabled during my childhood. I just laugh it off because it's my choice to be butthurt or not. You can choose if being called a word hurts you or not.

Being stubborn in this regard is probably is a weakness. Sometimes I got to cut my losses and call myself a jackass.

I'll just say it this way. If there's a defenseless person getting beat up by somebody, I will probably be the first to protect them. If a lady got whacked by her man, I would be in that guys face quicker than you can say punch. It's the right thing to do in that regard.

Not really, I legitimately just wondered what the idea of "hate speech" meant to people here. I am fearful of where our society is going; tolerance is expected for everyone except the minorities. If you are a "majority" (which I don't think Christians are actually a majority in this country anymore), you are at risk of public shaming at least, and one day at risk of "hate crimes" for living what the Bible teaches. It is sad to me that this country was founded for the purpose of religious freedom and that we have people who serve in the military to ensure that freedom for any and all religions who cannot end a prayer in "Jesus's name."
