Why is it tainted?

A large portion of the populous associates it with xenophobia and racism. I'm not saying that it's accurate, just that many feel that way. Especially in the black and Hispanic community.

Politicians will worry about alienating large segments of the population by using it.

That is stupid.

That is stupid.

Small groups of right wing extremists latched onto it to push their own agendas. Trump's immigration policies have made it easy for him to be hated by Hispanics.

The black community viewing Trump as a racist is confusing to me....I guess it's a by-product of their leaders mostly being Democrats.

I don't like Trump as a person but I don't think he is a racist....but lots of people do.

It's actually surprisingly weak. John Adams and George H.W. Bush are the only sitting VPs to be elected to the presidency. Nixon was VP before becoming president, but other than that, not many presidents out of the ranks of Vice Presidents (not counting those who succeeded because of death/resignation).

EDIT: Whoops, Jefferson was VP too.
VanBuren too, I think. He was Andrew Jackson's VP.

If hispanics hate him for trying to curb illegal immigration then I don't give a crap. If you want to be an American, then do it the right way, or stay where you are. I don't think Cubans feel the same way, so I don't think using the broad term "hispanic" is really accurate..more like Central Americans trying to sneak in when we are bursting at the seams.

I have no problem with Mexican immigrants, or any other immigrants for that matter, just the ones who come in illegally, and the ones that do not want to assimilate...I mean the ones that don't want to be Americans.

Most of this view is because most Democrats and the MSM say Trump is a racist over and over every day. Some people begin to believe it because they never hear the other point of view.

I have always said if Trump is a racist .. he is not very good at it.

I mostly agree with you but a lot of Central American immigrants are seeking asylum and they have been mistreated and lumped in with criminals when they are just seeking safety for their families.

Grow where you are planted. Be a part of the solution, not the problem. Asylum is a code word taught by the coyotes and leftist attorneys with their own agendas who take the money as do many of the people they traffic. Some abuse many of the people they traffic. If they make it to the border the true asylum seekers are vetted now and have to shelter in the nation they are in until their case is heard. If approved, they go through the front door and assimilate. They don't get to tell America or Americans what to do anymore.

Now that COVID is around, they suddenly don't need asylum so bad. Funny that.

Black and Latino support for Trump as of February polling was at historic highs for a Republican president, over 20% among blacks and over 30% among Latinos. If that support holds anywhere near that rate through November....

I don't think he is racist but I don't think he cares at all about his base, lower to middle class Americans. He cares about rich people as that is who he identifies with.

Never forget the media and crazy libbys tried to tank the economy and kill America. It didn’t work. All the fake ass projections. They realized they lost and back tracked. Sad!

Middle ground. The virus is indeed bad, but not as bad as it could've been. The dems tried to use it to their advantage (look at pelosis crazy bill for example) and it failed. Trump comes out looking good and his job approval numbers go up. CNN now won't even show his press conferences because in general people are liking what Trump is doing.

Overall it is indeed a serious virus that will kill many people but we used an abundance of caution here in the states which was justified. Trump did a good job. Before too long CNN and MSNBC will be back to impeachment bullsht.

All of this is true

my point really is less concerned with the individual mindsets of those that joined the confederacy vs the reason the confederacy was a thing to begin with, but i can agree that what you say was no doubt commonplace. if we're discussing why the war was a war, we can't nonchalantly glaze over slavery, whether its being framed as a religiously-ordained institution or an economic tool. it was a primary cause. and whether the small-time farmers who enlisted in 1861 knew it at the time or not, they almost certainly must have come to learn it over time.

re: the argument that non-slave owners wouldn't have been concerned with the institution of slavery, we have to be aware that even to this day, large factions of people support legislation aimed at helping people above them in the socioeconomic ladder and do very little for themselves (trickle-down economics). The "whats best for us will done day be best for you" sermon is as old as civilized society itself.

I’ve liked and agreed with everything you’ve posted the last couple days regarding your thoughts on the Civil War until that last paragraph in this post. I just think it’s a poor comparison.

Trickle-Down Economy has a lot to do with job creation, and quality job creation should be the first consideration for every economic decision made in this country - outside of world-wide quarantine, of course. As a life-long resident in a region where the primary industry is on its deathbed, I can tell you it is a pitiful sight. Without an emphasis on job creation, the rest of the country could very well end up resembling South Appalachian Coal Country. This is evident in Rust Belt places like Detroit as well.

I’m for a corporate sliding scale. If a corporation provides a certain number of jobs at a certain average pay rate, they are providing a service and should pay less taxes.

Trickle down economies, much like conservatives like to say about socialist economies, look fine on paper, but don’t exist in reality at the federal level.

Got to agree to disagree to an extent. Both Laissez-faire and command economies are definitely paper theories. But the theory behind Trickle Down economy has merit.
