Neither of those are examples of socialism. They’re just expansive welfare states.
Well that’s what most people call “socialism” nowadays. Real socialism just refers to workers owning factories/businesses rather than a “boss”.

Those bosses sold out the American workforce. People moan about unions but we damn sure miss them having teeth like they use to. I suspect it’ll come back

Unions lost their teeth when they began acting in their own self-interest as opposed to their constituents, or playing politics at the expense of their own constituents. NATO was also not good for unions.

It got FDR elected 4 times and Western Europe seems to be doing well

Socialism is not what got FDR elected 4 times. The New Deal never achieved its goal of lifting America out of depression, it took WW2 to do that. All the New Deal did was expand the federal government's role in the economic sector, but was never able to dig the US out of depression until industry began war production. Up until the Great Depression the economy, if left alone, typically corrected itself in 2-4 years. It's hard to say with any certainty if that would have happened with the Great Depression, but we do know for certain that the New Deal couldn't do it short of a world war.

Also, what Western European countries are you referring to as currently socialist and that are doing well? And I don't mean countries that have universal healthcare and a welfare system; I mean socialist where the government controls the means of production. I would point out that one of the most liberal of those universal healthcare states, Finland, just saw its government collapse and resign over its failure to correct its healthcare system, which was becoming extremely stressed under costs, in part because of an aging population, but also in part because of increased immigration over the last few years.

If a Democrat was in office, Republicans would do the same thing. The only thing either party cares about is winning. This has been proven many times over.

Republicans wanted to impeach Obama over anything and everything. Just like Dems want to impeach Trump over anything and everything.

Just like Dems wanted W out of office. Just like Republicans wanted Clinton out of office. And on and on we go.

You have to know that.

Reps never brought Obama up for impeachment. They never made up hoaxes to accuse him of breaking the law. No president in American history has been treated like our current president. That’s a fact.

Parties exist to win elections. Everything else is secondary. Full stop.

I’m pretty sure y’all were talking about Bill Gates this morning. I glance at the site between patients occasionally. I have a childhood buddy who is in a few movies. We went to Middle School together. He lives in LA now and does an Internet show with John Gries (Uncle Rico). They discussed Bill Gates controversy along with Garret Morris. We absolutely disagree about everything political 🤣.

Awww, mcgill is this your first time having someone tell you trickle-down doesn’t work? 🙄
Free Market Capitalism in a democracy squashes Socialism, Communism, Naziism, etc exponentially, but it can't be hamstrung by unnecessary rules and regulations, and yes, I know some are necessary. But the Fed. Gov't needs to stay out of the way, along with greedy politicians and many special interest groups for the most part.

It’s okay to acknowledge something doesn’t work the way it should on paper; doesn’t mean I prefer communism or naziism or anything else (I wish healthcare was socialized more than it is now, the advantages are pretty clear in a pandemic with 6m people losing their jobs and healthcare or whatever). The point is nothing is perfect and everything is open to critique, capitalism included. We can do that without name-calling, I would think.
