I would like to thank everyone for quoting that GIF. I got to cringe about 12 times instead of once.

Bill Russell was surrounded by Hall of Famers. They talk about the "Super Teams" of today's era, but those Celtic teams were absolutely loaded. Some of those teams in the early to mid 60s had 5 hall of famers on the roster.

And they managed to do this before free agency.

Red Auerbach is regarded as probably the greatest NBA coach of all time, but he was actually 10x better as a general manager.

He still won nine rings. That is very difficult to argue with.

In case drvenner missed it.

A bunch of us, guys and girls, watched Brian’s Song in my dorm room - not a dry eye in the room. I love that movie.

I remember Something for Joey, too!

Brian's Song is not really a football movie more about a friendship and loss.

Is this gif some kind of allusion for Vol Fans during the Butch Jones years?

It was really meant to represent Sarge's quest to become a Mod. Full layout that ends.... well poorly. :eek:lol:

This is why I hate the argument as to who is the best in a team sport. Too many other factors that simply have to be considered.

You give me a great player, surround him with a great supporting cast, and give him a great head coach. He better win a boat load of rings!!

Hmm. That’s another generational type argument.

I’d say dominance wise maybe prime Sandy Koufax?

Either that or Bonds

I like the Koufax pick but his career was simply too short due to his elbow problems. To me, if you're going to be talked about as being the best, longevity has to be one of the considerations.

Now the real question when it comes to baseball greats is juice or no juice?

I think the juicers made a mockery of the record book.

Personally, I think Bonds & Clemens are unquestionably Hall-of-Famers and should be voted in tomorrow, but their records shouldn't be recognized.

I get that. Then I'd say definitely Bonds.

Here's the alltime leaders in WAR

The first three (Ruth, Cy Young, Walter Johnson) was before segregation, so I don't weigh their accomplishments the same.

The next two are Bonds and Willie Mays. There are arguments for both of them.

This is a tough question. People say Ruth a lot, but I disagree. I like the above picks of Rose and Aaron.

To me, the best baseball player of all time should be able to do it all, or at least most of the game. Rose for example could do it all except hit for power.

If you’re going down as the goat baseball player, you need to be a 5 tool player or as close to a 5 tool as possible. A great hitter who is an average fielder is not the greatest baseball player who ever lived I don’t think.

Had a friend who said Willie Mays, that’s long before my time, but his reasoning is that Mays could do it all. But it’s funny how much more difficult this question is than the basketball or football question.
