That's cool. You aren't alone in that opinion. It's just my opinion about him and I'm probably in the minority.

His defense looked lost last year and they have never set the edge. PSU defense doing just fine without him.

We will see how he does at his next stop.
It’ll be interesting to see where he ends up

"Anderson Training Center, this is Philip, how can I direct your call?"

"Philip, Jimmy Hyams here. Who are John Currie's top candidates for the UT football head coaching job?"

"What? Oh. Hi Jimmy. The top candidates are....let me see here.....ah, yes. Mike Bobo and Chad Morris."

*furious scribbling ensues*

"Thanks. What are the chances that Jon Gruden gets the job?"

"Jon Gruden? Oh, uhh, Jon Gruden isn't a candidate. Yeah. So, uh, zero chance."

"Thanks!"

Lol, not even a hint of the Grudemeister.

Vols’ move a bit cliche; Currie’s career-defining search commences – Brice's Views From Rocky Top

Brice:
The overtures to Jon Gruden, a Super Bowl champion coach, the NFL’s most recognizable broadcast voice and one-time UT assistant coach in the 1980s, are very real and much further along than at any point in any of Tennessee’s previous courtships to the mega-star football mind.

Six different sources, ranging from current coaches to former all-time great Vols to college administrators, in the past 72-96 hours tell me that Gruden is far more seriously considering this Tennessee offer than ever before; so much so that Gruden is making some preliminary calls to coaches and other college athletics folks about potentially joining him in Knoxville.

Alright, with the staff being up in the air now going forward. If you could retain two coaches on the current staff, and only two, who would it be if anyone? I'm going with Coach G and Warren.

Gillespie and Warren are the only two that have had units that have either improved or played at a high level.

Saying anyone other than those two is farcical.

Haven't had time to catch up to the board so I apologize if it's already been mentioned, but full practice on Fridays was pioneered by Chip Kelly. Here is an article from football scoop:

Why Chip Kelly has a different practice schedule than the rest of the NFL - FootballScoop

Idea cam from Olympic level trainers.

You know what, now that I read this, seems like I remember when Butch was talking about doing things differently like that a few years ago. At the time we were all for it because we were still on the Butch train.

I love Jimmy Hyams cause he gives you the straight dope but this is pretty close to reality in my mind!

What if Gruden brought Warren Sapp as dline coach?

Eating cheeseburgers and coaching!

Having spent time with Warren, he is the last person you want mentoring young men. Warren was a great player but a terrible human being. I won’t share any stories but this isn’t a good dude.

It's dangerous because the fanbase will be hugely disappointed if they're led to believe Gruden is the guy only for it to be some mundane hire. Puts the new guy in a rough spot right away.

The only person Gruden could/should be a smokescreen for is someone like John Harbaugh.

I can see that. Good point.

Why haven't we heard any non UT alumni be linked to Gruden's staff?

Purely a guess- let’s at least play hypothetical. The connections are all being leaked on the UT booster side, and those boosters mostly have relationships with former players and coaches at Tenn. So the only ones they can verify (if it has actually happened) is alumni. Purely throwing mess against the wall and hoping it sticks.

Imagine walking on a fall day by Haslam Field and hearing a coach blow his whistle and scream “ Atta boy Jarrett, now that was a hell of a throw right into the Turkey Hole, helluva catch Marquez, on the ball run it again” :)

I think he has proven that he was vastly overrated and likely had the right assistants and head coach to make him look like he was better than he really was.

You are the only one I remember that was unsure about him from the start and we all thought you were insane.
