No, I'm not "the" Chuckie from C&C (I didn't even know that his last initial is "R"), but that's the inspiration for my username, user title and location. Someone did a video about the legend of John Bean, and they interviewed Chuckie...that's where I "stole" a picture of him, which is what I use for my avatar.

To this day, I listen to that track a few times a week. It's gold!

I just happened to see a YouTube vid about John Bean the other day, and it had an interview with Charlie Rodgers from C&C talking about him..When I saw Charlie I thought "Hey I know that guy from Vn..Thats Chuckie". 😁 It's hilarious that you chose him as your avi and handle.

I'm still timid regarding the Grumors but Brice being that forthcoming is a big deal to me.

If Gruden comes to town this weekend it HAS to be to sign on the dotted line. Otherwise he's the biggest jerk in the world. Lol.

Don’t know much about this poster other than he has connected some dots in the past couple weeks that show he has some knowledge. He’s been pretty optimistic on Gruden coming and now this. TIFWIW:

Some perspective:

After what happened in 2012, many in the media are going to be very hesitant to put out anything that even mentions the possibility of Gruden coming to UT. It will be addressed as a pipedream or a very small chance, or that "he'll listen, but there's no real interest."

This is especially true for those closer to the program. They're hesitant to put their neck out there, despite the smoke and what people are saying, because they'll be mocked mercilessly if they're wrong. I don't blame them for having that stance. Many fans feel the same way.

But the reality is Gruden is going to be the coach. It's happening. Many have been saying this for weeks, including the guy I heard it from. But until people hear it directly from John Currie, it's not going to be leaked. It's a smart play on Currie's part, and likely part of the reason he's been so tight-lipped.

John Brice's interview is particularly interesting today. If he has that level of knowledge, including who Gruden has called about assistant spots, you know that other guys in the media have heard it as well, including Hubbs. But Hubbs continues to point fans in other directions, including the whole Tampa Bay thing. You've got to ask yourself why.

As many have said, it's all about timing now. Sit back and enjoy the ride. Relevance is coming soon!

Maybe Gruden announces it himself during MNF on Nov. 27th. Texans @ Ravens.

Would leave only 4 episodes to go and would be the first Monday after our last game of the season.

Honestly, Gruden announcing it on MNF would be the biggest PR move ever. Far better than Feldman breaking it on Twitter at 11 a.m. on a random week day.

Get ready for Hyams and Larry to squash the Grumors again, or at least make it seem like an extremely remote possibility. It's going to go back and forth for at least another week or two.

I don't think Gruden necessarily needs some huge head start on the recruiting process. He's Jon Gruden. His hire will send shockwaves through the CFB world. That's why I think the announcement could be delayed as long as the Monday after the Vandy game or even the SECCG weekend. Especially if current recruits know that something huge is about to happen.

It would almost be like a Black Friday-esque sale on committing to Tennessee. Limited time offer, supplies are scarce, and you better make a move now if you want to get in on it.

Gruden gets announced and recruits have 2-3 weeks to decide if they want to play for him and the Vols. He makes a few phone calls to elite players and could take advantage of the insane hype he and his presumably NFL-caliber staff would generate.

Very little time for him to get turned down or even for other coaches to negative recruit, but enough time for him to seal the deal on a monster class.

You said it in your post tho, his staff. The sooner he is official the sooner he can put together his staff.

Hyams will call over there and someone will give him a couple of names and he will lead off his show with them. He will repeat exactly what he is told. The UT narrative in these things gets worked thru Hyams. Not Hubbs.

I've not been on the Gruden train this time, mainly because of 2012 and the fact I don't trust the powers to be at Tennessee to spend the money or have the resolve to get him. However, the fact that Currie isn't going to hire a search firm and telling recruits we should have someone in days not weeks is very telling. The reason you hire a search firm is to do the background check, NCAA compliance, due diligence and such. You could do all that in house, and Currie seems to keep things very close. But it just seems to me Currie already has his guy and doesn't need it. Up and comers like Frost, Bruhm and even proven coaches like Kelly, Patterson and Mullen would require some type of due diligence. Not sure if that means its Gruden, but it does seem like it at the moment.

I understand the idea of excitement, but a lot of these big time recruits come with big time egos, not even the football god Saban can just say "hey come here". They still have to have their egos stroked and convinced to commit by the best college coach of all time. I think if by some miracle it is Gruden, he can definitely sway some on name alone, but the big fish get to be big fish for a reason, they don't just bite on any shiny lure.

Ya, people acting like Gruden will be turning away 5* for other 5* do t understand how it works. With the exception of qb, he'd have to work as hard as anyone else to land the big fish.

"Anderson Training Center, this is Philip, how can I direct your call?"

"Philip, Jimmy Hyams here. Who are John Currie's top candidates for the UT football head coaching job?"

"What? Oh. Hi Jimmy. The top candidates are....let me see here.....ah, yes. Mike Bobo and Chad Morris."

*furious scribbling ensues*

"Thanks. What are the chances that Jon Gruden gets the job?"

"Jon Gruden? Oh, uhh, Jon Gruden isn't a candidate. Yeah. So, uh, zero chance."

"Thanks!"

*furious scribbling ensues*

I think he has proven that he was vastly overrated and likely had the right assistants and head coach to make him look like he was better than he really was.
I don’t buy that for a second. Consistently had top 20 defenses then came and coached under the micromanager extraordinaire that is Butch Jones. I bet if it were up to shoop Warren, hoke, and Thig wouldn’t be his assistants.

Theres gonna be a ton of hype around the 2019 class. Butch signed top 5. He will sign top 3.

I don't think Gruden is the recruiting slam dunk everybody thinks he is. He does seem like a personable guy, and everybody knows him, but negative recruiting somebody who has been out of coaching for 10 years is not going to be that difficult.

This. And someone who's never even a college coach. If he doesn't work equally as hard as Saban or any other coach, he'll get eaten alive in recruiting.

That's cool. You aren't alone in that opinion. It's just my opinion about him and I'm probably in the minority.

His defense looked lost last year and they have never set the edge. PSU defense doing just fine without him.

We will see how he does at his next stop.
