Recruiting Forum Football Talk XLIII

Tee Martin is a good recruiter, not sure how good of an OC he is. I fully believe that Gruden would hire one of if not the best coaching staffs in college football. He would sell the NFL.
We would be an NFL pipeline like Bama. That is what the players won't. If we can sell that, top recruits will come. And we'll have a guy who actually knows how to coach football who will develop and win with said top recruits.

Bama fans and Saban will whine that they have to play Tennessee twice a year to win the SEC. They'll be wanting to do away with the cross divisional rivalry.

The Trey Dean stuff makes me believe that Currie told him more than just "be patient because I'm going to hire a great coach."

That's not enough to move the needle with a blue chip kid whose phone is getting blown up by Meyer, Dabo, Smart, etc.

People saying Gruden will have the best staff then acting happy about Tee Martin being our OC lol. He has been bad at USC and their fanbase want him gone. But sure, let's bring him here...

Gruden would be bringing Tee to Tennessee to recruit and call his playbook, IMO.

He also doesn't make that call if he doesn't have his guy lined up.

Y'all, I'm bummed about this Kelly to UF business. Can anyone throw me some examples of UGA fans melting for a quick pick me up?

To be fair, I feel like if that happened tee would be more of a recruiting figurehead and wouldn't be fully in control of the offense, I don't think any OC would be under Gruden. Kind of like the butch situation now only with an offense that's actually good.

This is just too speculative IMO. Currie is trying to save the recruiting class and will say what he needs to until he makes a hire. I'm not convinced this is significant.

It's significant because whatever he said convinced Trey Dean to back off on his decommitment, IMO.

I don't buy that a generic plea to stick to the Vols because a great coach is coming would be enough to keep Dean in this class. Especially given the fact that he has no relationship with Currie and his position coach will likely be somewhere else next season.

I would hate to have over 3100 passing yards (with 11 int) and a 1,000 yd rusher.

SC leads the Pac 12 in offense and are averaging 500 yards and 36 points a game. They are 13th in the nation in total offense. They haven't been bad on offense. Defense has been their problem, they are down in the 70's in total D.

This...

If Currie was BS'n Dean would sense that a mile away.

Well the generic plea has already worked man. Dean stuck with us. Next coach will have the opportunity to hold onto him.

Yeah only knock on them has been Darnold being a turnover machine at times in spite of his production. Seems like the system has been good, execution lacking sometimes from the QB

I'm thinking he told him more than what was quoted.

Not necessarily a name drop, but "I'm hiring a great coach and the deal is almost/already done. Just be patient for another week or two and you'll see" or something like that.

Alright, with the staff being up in the air now going forward. If you could retain two coaches on the current staff, and only two, who would it be if anyone? I'm going with Coach G and Warren.
