Franklin would be an instant credibility booster for this program nationally. I know many of you don't like him and the things that went on at Vandy, but this will be a seismic announcement if it happens. We would no longer be considered a joke of a program for the first time in years. Head coaches at major programs like Penn State simply don't leave to go to other P5 jobs while they are still successful.

You don't think who the OC is has no influence at all? You don't think kids get recruited by specific coaches? Come on, that's a very short-sighted way to view it.

Yep just like Cutcliff with Fulmer. The program was never the same without Cutcliff. I would venture to say that if he had not ever left, we would have had Fulmer as HC for a lot longer. JMO

Just think about it for a second if it’s Franklin...

PSU, the search firm and UT would have done extensive background checks on him. So maybe those of us that don’t like him just don’t like him because he kicked our ass when at Vandy and maybe he didn’t actually cover up rape and maybe is a good guy.

You know what he does do? Win.

And nationally this would send shockwaves throughout the sports world that dumpster fire joke of a program UT just hired JF away from PSU. It would be massive nationally.

Just want to clarify that the end of my post is as important as the beginning. I believe that we’ve made one offer only, and that is JF. My friend is noticeably worried that we’re on day three after agreeing to basic terms. I think it better wrap up today. I can’t imagine that it could drag on now that it’s in the news. It’s got to become public or it’ll die.

I absolutely hated James Franklin with a passion at Vandy. More than Spurrier in the 90s, probably. I think he would win here but his personality is truly awful. It might be different if he hadn't been at Vandy when we were terrible under Dooley.

Franklin sorta reminds me of Bruce Pearl in some regards. One of those coaches that you can HATE as an opposing coach but you just might really like him as your coach (Again talking on field results only here).

You're gonna find where he contacted the victim. The victim helped the football team with hosting recruits. There was never any wrongdoing found against Franklin which is why I don't understand why people say he helped cover anything up. He never asked her or a football player to lie. I don't get it.
I see he contacted the victim.

I also see reports someone close to the player say he told them to delete the video. I don't know - this is exactly like Schiano to me. A third hand source says Franklin saw something and did the wrong thing.

We were up in arms over it when it was Schiano - can't back off it now.

He’s a great coach, I will not take that away from him.

People say he’s innocent, people say he’s guilty, you can think what you want.

I’ll never like him.

I just imagine if it's Franklin, or any P5 coach, there would be some "integrity" issues about dipping out on a team a week before NSD. I wouldn't think it would matter since the majority of letters on intent are signed at this point, but maybe that's a hold up?

I've heard some rumors on a few assistants for Elliott, so I'll try to do this and fill in some gaps.

HC: Elliott
OC: I'd guess Chad Morris because he's available.
RB: Graham
WR: Tee or Justin Stepp
OL: Alex Atkins or Thomas Austin
QB: JP Losman

DC: Steele or Todd Bates
DL: Todd Bates
LB: Steele or Andrew Warwick
DB: Mike Reed or Charlie Harbison

Marion Hobby is also an option on the defensive side, and Joe Craddock on the offensive side. Craddock is the leading candidate at MTSU for their OC position.
Offensive coaches will put 5 on the other side of the ball. Likely no QB coach or WR coach (TE would coach those himself) and hire a DL. Jay Graham saves his job by being available for ST coach AND RB coach.

No way I can read 70 pages today.. have too much to catch up on with work.

What’s the latest? I skipped ahead and seeing a lot about Elliot. Any AP, Hubbs or national media updates?

I think the hate for Elliot is out of control. You can be hesitant that he isn't a head coach, but literally everything else about him screams that he would be a great hire and HC. In an ideal world, TN would be hiring literally whoever they wanted. We are not in an ideal world for UT, and I would venture to say we're at a lower point than ever aside from having a proven AD at the helm
Agreed. *IF* we are getting turned down by top candidates id gladly take TE over a below average head coach just because they have HC experience...

Franklin bailed on Vandy at a bad time and then stole his own recruits to PSU, lol. They called him "Poach Franklin" for years.

Search firms and Ohio State also cleared Schiano. Wasn't good enough for us then.
