There is a long history of star coordinators that don’t pan out as HC, especially in their first gig. It’s absolutely possible- but it’s a long shot- especially here.

Just looking at coaches being hired in general.... how many have actually without a doubt worked out in the last 10 years. There’s not many lol

I see you have thought about this a lot. I would love for you to show your work on this take
The last 12 years of UT football is all the evidence you need. We could have hired a TE caliber coach every coaching search since PF was fired. Hell, we did with JP. None of them worked.

Big boy football programs hire big boy football coaches. We're not coming back till we make that happen.

I think the hate for Elliot is out of control. You can be hesitant that he isn't a head coach, but literally everything else about him screams that he would be a great hire and HC. In an ideal world, TN would be hiring literally whoever they wanted. We are not in an ideal world for UT, and I would venture to say we're at a lower point than ever aside from having a proven AD at the helm

I just got clarification from someone. UT is not avoiding Sexton clients. DW has just put word out that he will not take calls from anyone doing Sexton’s bidding (boosters in particular). This puts some stress on pursuing Sexton clients (they signed with him for a reason), but has not eliminated them completely. So you can’t rule his clients completely out of the picture.
it hasn't been talked about a lot, but that's a major part of the game we've played for so long, and not that it's the cause/reason for anything, but sexton wields so much influence, and can control narratives, that it was actually probably a smart play on DW's part....if you don't play THAT game, you can't lose it....not sure what the end game is or if it's a sound strategy...lol...but at this point, if it's different, i kinda like it...........lol.

It’s just my opinion that if you place him in a conference with the recruiting monsters of Saban, Smart, and Mullen, his ability to draw in and develop talent to a caliber anywhere near the level of Clemson or other top programs is extremely questionable. Granted I also believe it’s an improvement to where we are now. I just don’t think taking a chance on another Coordinator who’d be losing the big name coach above him would be a wise move. If we’re this far down our list, get someone (except Sonny D) with HC experience. The amount of unsuccessful Coordinators far outweighs the number of successes in terms of HCs.
I'm the opposite. We know what and who Sonny Dykes is. With Elliott there is huge boom or bust potential. What do they have to lose. And before you say the fans that is BS. How many schools have fans searching airports for planes? Going like we are on message boards? For everyone 1 that says they won't go to Neyland there are 3 that will take their place.

Danny White can be a good AD and still not be able to convince a homerun type hire to come here, we have no idea what the sanctions are going to look like. Perception of this job is not what it used to be, that has nothing to do with him.
I actually don't disagree, but is he worth 1.8 mil if he can't get a homerun hire? We're in a horrible situation, and no doubt it's a tough fix. That doesn't diminish White as an AD. Yet when you pay such an exorbitant salary, you expect results.
