The answer is we don’t know. And tell me who is competing with Bama right now?

Don't want to find out with Marrone as coach.

There have been several teams that have beaten and competed with them on regular basis the last few years.

UF gave them a run for their money this year.
LSU and AU both have regularly competed with and beaten them a few times.
UGA did a few years back. If they didn't have Kirby Dumb they'd probably already beat them a few times.

what we need is a CEO head coach.

A guy that will hire an offensive mind and a defensive mind and let them do their thing.

hire a great head of player development to handle the recruiting.

Be the mouthpiece for the team

Wouldn't have said this a year ago, but Sam Pittman is the perfect example of this

I mean, if you're hiring fired coaches at least let it be winning ones like Herman or Gus.

Marrone won't stepdown to be an OL coach either, so I don't want to hear his name around anything UT related.

At this point, there is a slew of coaches coming available. Pick the coach you want, get a deal, fire Pruitt and hire new coach ok same day, give the new coach every assistant they want and let’s ride. Don’t care if it is Freeze, Marrone, Chadwell, Napier, Stoops, Herman, whoever. But we need a change and hope for the future.
We need a change...but we don't need to just hire "whoever" either. Need to get this right.

I'm for waiting until next year if we're just gonna take the "hire whoever" approach.

But we probably wouldn't make a better hire either way.

You know you're a basketball school when:

You run off a 61% winning basketball coach after 3 seasons, looking for better.

But your 46% winning (and declining) football coach returns.

The past decade of football truly has beaten us down and changed our expectations. On the other hand, Bruce greatly raised our basketball expectations.

Did Marrone prove he can handle an NFL roster though? He appeared to have Buffalo trending in the right direction, and perhaps set them up for their current success under McDermott, but he bolted after just 2 years. His success in Jacksonville was a total flash in the pan. They instantly regressed after his first full season, culminating in an unmitigated disaster this year.

I suppose he does have an NFL track record of taking bad teams and quickly making them better/relevant, but in Buffalo he didn't stick around and in Jax the success didn't last beyond his first season. He was able to take a bad Syracuse program and turn them into an up-and-down program, which is something...I guess.

Our most realistic option at this point is Gus or Herman. Both have been reasonably successful at the P5 level and neither would have to be bought out. I'm quite confident our admin will not seriously consider either, but they are the most realistic options.

You have to consider the context, just like everything. The Jaguars had a GM, who also just got fired. So, it's not like an O'Brien situation where Marrone had sole discretion over personnel. Marrone took the Jags to a halftime lead against the Patriots in the AFC Championship game with Blake Bortles as QB. Then, in 2018, they dealt with injuries along with a regressing Bortles. In 2019, the GM traded away all of their Pro-Bowl type players. That's what you get. You will not succeed when your franchise decides to dump your best players and play for the #1 pick.

Marrone was 25-25 in 4 years at Syracuse and was 4-5 against top 25 teams, he won the Big East in his final year. The 4 years before Marrone got there, Syracuse was 5-37. Thats a pretty remarkable turn around in 4 years.

Does anybody think Marrone can beat UGA, Bama, or UF?

I can see Freeze or Chadwell doing it. Hell, Fickell came closer against UGA then we have even sniffed lately.

I just don’t think Marrone is the guy we need.
Not even worried about Bama at this point, we need to take them off the schedule altogether until Nick retires because at the rate they’re going he may not lose another game the rest of his career (and I’m dead serious about that) probably one of the best CFB teams ever this season and bringing in what could be the best recruiting class ever

Florida loses everyone and Mullen hasn’t recruited to the standard UF has set. We don’t even know if he’ll stay the HC. Dude ain’t winning the East with freaking Emory Jones lol

Georgia’s got one more year to do it, that’s 2021. If they can’t get it done next season, Kirby never will
