OBrien did a great job at pennst. Hes a proven HC. If he's not in everyone's top 3 if Pruitt is fired is crazy. Bama is looking at hiring him as an OC......meanwhile at UT we are talking about hiring Doug Marrone....Holy hell.

Marrone and O’Brien have very comparable resumes. Actually, slight edge to Marrone.

So, a stabilizer??

Kind of what we need right now.

He wouldn’t be my first choice, but I wouldn’t hate it.
That was best case scenario. I don't think the guy would be here long enough to get to 8-4.

Malzahn >>>>> Mehrrone

And y'all hate Mehlzahn but like Marroon????

The fact that Hubbs is answering these questions tells me the smoke is thick. He normally ignores this kind of question as much as possible. He has answered several of these in the last week.

Yes. Normally the thread gets ignored or even deleted. No one really knows anything concrete right now.

Exactly how I feel. Not my first choice but I think he would do well here. We need someone who can run a program and hire a great staff. That alone brings 8-9 wins a year.

25-25 is a good run?

Did you look at Syracuse’s record for the 5+ years before he got there and notice that it was a rebuild job? Did you notice that stint at Syracuse also included a conference championship? Sometimes you’ve got to dig past the 25-25 a little bit.

lets not forget that this record was pre ACC days also. It was in the weak Big East. Which taints it even more and opinion no matter how bad they was before him. Also the downfall since he left the program doesn't carry any water either because the competition got tougher for the next coach in the ACC.

Man has got to have his standards...... I guess.

My standard is does a coach win to that particular programs ceiling

Syracuse was bad before DM got there. That .500 was significantly better than that program had been

So yea that’s my standard

I am just of the belief that the NFL is really big boy business. Aside from recruiting, if you can handle an NFL roster (winning seasons at Buffalo and Jacksonville) then you can scheme and handle a roster of young people. Sure, there are different demands with younger people. Buffalo is winning now, but that was the best season it had in a while, and he took a Jacksonville dumpster fire to an AFC Championship Game.

Aside from Hugh Freeze, we aren't hiring a coach with prior P5 experience. Not Campbell, and I don't even think Fickell would come. He makes 3.4 at Cincy and can wait on what he wants.
Did Marrone prove he can handle an NFL roster though? He appeared to have Buffalo trending in the right direction, and perhaps set them up for their current success under McDermott, but he bolted after just 2 years. His success in Jacksonville was a total flash in the pan. They instantly regressed after his first full season, culminating in an unmitigated disaster this year.

I suppose he does have an NFL track record of taking bad teams and quickly making them better/relevant, but in Buffalo he didn't stick around and in Jax the success didn't last beyond his first season. He was able to take a bad Syracuse program and turn them into an up-and-down program, which is something...I guess.

Our most realistic option at this point is Gus or Herman. Both have been reasonably successful at the P5 level and neither would have to be bought out. I'm quite confident our admin will not seriously consider either, but they are the most realistic options.

I feel like your missing a whole lot of middle in this post.....

Jeremy Pruitt head coach winning percentage: 45.1%
Derek Dooley head coach winning percentage: 43.8%
Doug Marrone head coach winning percentage: 38.7%
In 20 years we will be up to hiring a coach with a 65.2% winning percentage. In 40, I hope my great-grand kids will get to see Tennessee win a nation championship.

If you're hiring a fired professional coach, hire Anthony Lynn. That Chargers team was a half dozen breaks away from being 11-5.

Yea he’s a good coach. He will get another nfl job quickly but he can’t be considered here imo.

he has zero college coaching experience
