Who is this splash hire of the coaches that are out there right now in your opinion? And no I’m not at all saying we should hire Marrone. Just curious what other peeps think
Imo Hermon, Napier, and freeze are splashes. All are proven winners. 2 haven’t been touched by ncaa and all are offensive minded.

Not a splash hire, but might be exactly what our program needs. He had a good run at Syracuse.
Wouldn’t be the worst hire, just one it would be very hard to get excited about. Depending on staff. Idk who he is in cahoots with that he would bring.

Marrone does intrigue me a bit. Syracuse has been trash since he left. Babers had one good season and now they are worse than ever.

There's absolutely no argument that Marrone rode anyone's coattails there. He made them respectable when they were awful for years beforehand.

But on the other hand, I get some serious Schiano without the scandal vibes from him. Made a total non-factor of a team into something of a competitor. The difference is that he didn't stick around long enough at Cuse to get a great idea of where he is as a college coach, and obviously he flamed out in the NFL. But his NFL career was much longer than Schiano's, and he has an AFCCG appearance on his resume. And was 5 points away from a Super Bowl appearance.

How is Herman a splash?

He didn’t win enough at Texas with more talent on his roster than every team he played against.
Texas talent is overrated. And he won plenty of games. They just think they should be playing for national championships every year.

At the end of the day, you are what your record says. Look at his record.
Definitely not amazing on paper but I think those records translate to him being a solid football coach at UT. He’d get us to win at an Iowa type level. Consistently 8-10 wins. Get this job to be desirable and relevant again
