Wasn’t there in 98?
I may be not be remembering correctly but I recall a documentary and he said he had something wrong with his throat and the doctors told him not to tell at the NC or it could damage his vocal chords permanently. Then he said if they made it again he'd yell louder than anyone else healthy throat or not.

The wishful thinking that this will be over by spring is silly. Until A) we decide to herd immunity or B) Have a vaccine there will be no team sports

Herd immunity is happening with or without masks and social distancing. It's absolutely crazy for anybody to suggest it is not or that it is not necessary. Limit the damage, use the therapeutics if you catch it, and hope most people are asymptomatic. But it's gonna happen. We have an older couple in our church with some bad pre-existing conditions catch it along with 3 of their foster and grand children. The children probably gave it to the couple as they were with other friends and family members at times. The husband has prostrate cancer. He is improving after they gave him the Remsevedir and plasma treatments. Will be in the hospital for two weeks or so.

Young people are ignoring it all for the most part. But young people don't stay with just each other, so it crosses into the families, work, school, retails outlets, restaurants, etc. A decent vaccine will add to herd ranks whenever it arrives, but we are looking at mid year 2021 before we hit the 60% mark IMO. It is losing its punch in terms of mortality. However, China continues to develop the other stuff they will unleash on the world as long as the Chi-coms are allowed to do what they do.

So maybe a mini-season in the spring and see what happens for the fall IMO. Hope some kind of season happens this fall, but it is looking unlikely.

I’ve seen to reach herd immunity there would need to be 65-70% of the population contract the disease. That means over 200 million cases and we are currently at about 11 million. Herd immunity is apparently a long way away.

But I’m surely no expert and didn’t even stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Except its not 11 million. The CDC has even stated on a press release and on their website a couple weeks ago that it is likely to be more that 10 times as many as have been diagnosed.

I didn't say they were the fear peddlers..they just bought the porn. Players have more to fear from performance injuries than this stupid virus...now guys like Jim Cheney on the other hand..🤷‍♂️

Still never addressed the fact that Covid is never going away...so where does all this BS stop?

I just find it odd that you are telling participants how they should feel about it. They are all informed individuals and understand, and they have seen the effects.

Ok cool. So even if we are at 10x the number of actual cases (which would 110 million cases) and herd immunity is 40% of the population (which would be 132.4 million people) then we are still approximately 22 million people from reaching herd immunity.

Yes. That's why I said mid-year 2021 to be on the safe side. Add in any vaccine usage as it happens. Newt said 40% for herd in some cases and there are research pieces out there that suggest that is possible.

Thanks! For those arguing herd immunity should be the immediate goal, there will be a lot of collateral damage (I.e. lives and much needed medical resources) in that pursuit. In other words, we’d have to break a lot of eggs to make that omelette.

Or we could practice social distancing, wash our hands, and wear a mask when we’re around people and maybe slow this thing down a bit to learn some more about it or maybe also save a life or two.

But there will always be people that do not wear masks no matter what.

Not if we get better at treatment and stop trying to fight the spread... reminds me of the failed drug war...

Then the longer this is going to take to get a handle on.

I truly get it if someone doesn't want to wear a mask, but practice good hygiene and keep your distance from people (which should be pretty standard behavior anyway IMO). Masks are only part of the equation.

Better treatment will take time though and I believe that wearing masks, practicing good hygiene and keeping our distance from others will provide the much needed time to find the best way to treat this.....and save a few lives along the way.

It's not though, it is only prolonging the inevitable.
