Recruiting Football Talk VIII

This is somewhat in contradiction to reports that we’re about to have one of the most expensive basketball rosters in the country (provided we land who we’re targeting).

It would be strange if our booster base was willing to pay for a basketball roster but not football. Now is Heup and crew going to the same lengths as Barnes to solicit the funds? That’s an open question, I think.
Makes me think back to this tweet a few weeks ago:

Any movement on QB names to the good guys?

Can't scroll rn through all the Nico obsession is beyond me. He gone. I just care about folks that want to be here. Let's go get some VFLs and forget about the damn quitters. Bye Felicia

That list is also not super relevant in terms of NIL value. That's only in reference to donations to the athletic program. Virginia, for example, does not have a strong NIL collective. But they are one the most elite Public universities in the country that received a lot of university donations.
Hence my statement, "The article below places TN at 14th nationally in donor money".

From Will West and Off The Hook Sports, Tennessee is just not on the same level with NIL cash regarding Big 10 teams. Welp, that's not good given that $$$$ now is a big factor on who wins.
If we're talking UM/OSU, shouldn't be surprising. They have far more graduates and thus fanbase potential. Higher pop states too without much in-state competition...Mich St at best. OSU has...Cincy?

The rest of the B1G? Outside of Oregon (Nike) nobody is above us. If UT ever gets to TX/FL level numbers, our NIL will be game over. We just don't have the enrollment numbers as them or OSU. Natural limiting factor. Luckily we have passionate folks and that keeps us in the ballgame. We could really use a Phil Knight type though.

The more I think about it, the better I feel if we end up with someone like Angeli.

Means you'd still have Merk and GMac totally locked in and a healthy 3 person battle for starting QB. Cheaper, more money to spend on WR, DT etc. Lockeroom stays united, because everyone understands we need another QB.

True. Now darn it, lower those standards even futher and bring in a bunch of students.

Tom Brady threw 20 passes and played in 6 games his first 2 years at Michigan.

And now you and the players want to play from day 1 way before their ready, and they play like crap, but want to be paid like NFL hall of famers
Tom Brady wasn't a 5* recruit or even a high 4* .

Brady was considered a 3* or borderline 4* . Anyhow you would rather 4* and 5* recruits stand on sidelines for 2 years while being recruited over?

Really doesn't matter either way. You don't want them to play and I prefer them to play. Odds are neither one of us will change our stance. Agree to disagree..

We are talking like 2-3 teams here not a whole damn league. Many of them also are putting all their eggs in a couple baskets. MI was ass in basketball and so was OSU. Conversely there are squads dumping all their money into basketball stuff. We are literally swinging with the big boys in every sport even ones specialized. No - we will not be the top spender in every facet. It is fine. We are fine. If you want to help then contribute.

We are also in a unique situation where our two (really 3 but not sure how much NIL is spent on baseball) big sports have recently played at elite levels, and we’ve spent big money on both. What other schools are in that class? Alabama, maybe Auburn without results, Michigan (but football wasn’t good), Oregon. Ohio State isn’t even good in basketball.
I've been thinking the same thing. I wonder if relative to top competition in each sport, football lags all other Tennessee programs in available NIL.

We go nuts in the baseball portal. Not without Tony, but also not without top NIL. And basketball is on a role. Also not without Barnes, but also not without booming NIL.

I don't have any respect for Off the Hook. They always find a way to troll UT for engagement.

Uh, Kirby's dad has stated many times our Baseball NIL isn't as great as individuals think it is. CTV don't play the money game it's if you want to win come on but if you're looking for money keep a trucking.

Yep
They hate the university it seems

Will and ovens were coddling Nico earlier in the week and then Dr Jerry punch came on and crushed the Nico coalition and they haven’t said much since really

But yes
Dave hooker, will and Tyler can kick rocks

Those three suck
