Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I’m beginning to have the same feeling. I wouldn’t mind a backup so long as we get a few more pieces from the portal, which there are several I like currently in it. However, my gut tells me we don’t get those because we spend too much time going after a QB, only to get spurned by their agents angling for more money.

And I too hope I’m wrong.
Some call them "agents," others call them "market makers".

If teams aren't going to put these 4* and 5* QB's on the field to play, then these young men should go to a Group of 5 team and showcase their talents. These young QB's are never going to be ready unless you let them play and learn on the job. These young men didn't come to Tennessee or any other school to stand on sidelines watching while their Eligibility is being used up.

Viewed 3 mock drafts this morning and all 3 had Jeanty to Jets. Also I know the mock drafts are all speculation but out of the 3 I looked at only 1 had Pearce in 1st round and it was the damned Eagles with 31st pick. Craziness..
Jets need a RT and are projected by many to go with Membou. I’d see Warren over Jeanty for them. Errybody waiting to see what the Raiders do.

Grammar aside….Shannon Terry, the founder of On3, played basketball at Lipscomb University.

And you don’t typically build multiple college sport-centric businesses by being biased toward one.
But you DO take a pay cut, and convey to other schools and media it wasnt about money by demanding $4M, after making more than anyone else on your team. After not earning, after making demands, and not holding up your end of bargain. Even after complaining, you still dont take a pay cut so coaches can go get better players arohnd you.

Further you also ingratiate yourself to others in allowing your patriarch to burn everything down around you. Bridges, relationships, then continue to bury himself in bullcrap.

No, its definitely all Tennessee's fault after they ran ball for 1800 yards with best player in present school history. No, I get it. Nico's side is exhonerated as evidenced by all the teams falling over themselves to get him.

There’s an old saying in journalism handed down from Mark Twain, “never pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel.” Nic did that from the start when he called Nakos a b7tch. I’ve worked as a reporter before and I knew the moment it appeared on X that he was going to reap the whirlwind if he turned out to be wrong. Reporters really don’t appreciate you attacking junior colleagues. They expect it from the public but when a subject pushes back like that it can ruin careers if the reporter hasn’t done due diligence.

Despite politicians telling us the news is lying all the time, there was no way in hell Nakos was going to drop something that big without triple checking his sources. Sometimes sources lie to you or you are given false info but otherwise you have to be insane to take on a story that huge without anything behind it. Nakos would have been done forever if he’d been wrong and he would have known that before he said or printed a word.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but when portal opens the coaches main job is to make sure your best players are staying. For a team like us we are now looking to plug gaps not overhaul the roster, then the Second step is they contact their targets. Here is where it gets tricky. You do not sign anyone immediately that might cause your current players to leave. You want to stay quiet. Chess not checkers.

Is it possible that we don't know the truth to this situation?

Maybe Merk or GMac out played Nico in the spring. You can't keep a guy that's making 2.5 million around if he is getting beat out in spring by qbs that are making less than him.
We probably don’t know everything but ^this ain’t it.
Heupel didn’t tell him to get.
He chose to go.

Tom Brady threw 20 passes and played in 6 games his first 2 years at Michigan.

And now you and the players want to play from day 1 way before their ready, and they play like crap, but want to be paid like NFL hall of famers

This.

And for those who prefer prioritizing the other way around... our approach has let to much better results than the portal darlings (FSU, Ole Miss, etc.)

All the Vols big and small make an impact. Remember to honor their time when they've earned it. Most have.

See I have zero problem with guys sitting in that second spot on the 2-deep going out and looking for a starting job. Do I wish guys like Christian Charles would stay? Of course! But I understand why he is transferring, appreciate all he did here and wish him the best.
