Pruitt gets two year extension

Again, he very well might do so, but I highly doubt it. There is more than just "increased pressure" by the fans to win at Alabama. It is not even debatable that it is much harder to win a national championship there. He has everything he needs at Clemson and has a much easier path to the College Football Playoff. I think people are over-valuing the name Alabama here. It's 2020, no kid cares about the history of Alabama. Clemson is viewed on the same level as Alabama now. Changing jobs serves no purpose.
Yep. Changing jobs because of "the name" would be so stupid. That isn't to say that he wouldn't; he is a Bammer after all; but I would be stunned if he did so.

Given what Dabo has already built Clemson into, there is nothing about Alabama that makes it a better job than Clemson. He actually already makes more than Saban, and Clemson would match any future offer Alabama made him. He wouldn't need to go to Alabama to win titles. He actually has an easier path to conference titles and the CFP at Clemson.

I think Dabo's Alabama ship started sailing away once he won his first title, and it was probably gone for good once he won the second. And he beat his alma mater both times. I'm sure the dude loves Alabama, but hell, how much do you think he loves Clemson at this point? He's worked there in some capacity for almost 20 years, and he's a god there. He isn't a god at Alabama. If he's a really sentimental guy he'll feel the Bama pull, it isn't like it'd be easy for him to throw Clemson off like they're chopped liver so he could go back home and coach.

Kids care and it shows with Alabama's recruiting. If Dabo becomes the coach there, the recruiting isn't going to wane.

Also, Alabama can't be over-valued to a guy who was born and raised in Birmingham and played football at Alabama.
I find it hard to believe that he'd change jobs and step into a fire purely for sentimental reasons. For him to switch, surely Alabama would need to be able to offer him something way above and beyond what Clemson would be able to, whether it be money, a chance to win titles, etc., but Alabama and Clemson are basically equivalents in those areas at this point. I mean, it's actually easier to win titles at Clemson now that Dabo has built it into a juggernaut.

Now that he has his extension in hand, which may have come prematurely, he needs to rise to the occasion, embrace the grind, and finish with a strong performance, to the satisfaction of a crowd of spectators. The extension provides some longevity which will appeal to future prospects, because they’ll know that he’s their man for the foreseeable future.
See what you did there you dirty boy.

Yeah but guys like that love challenges. They love pushing themselves. What else can he do at Clemson? Nothing. Is it easier? yes. But to win a Natty at your alma-matter while making the same or more money would be more appealing to a guy like that. Why did Roy Williams leave Kansas for North Carolina? Didn't he have it all in Kansas? North Carolina absolutely sucked when he took it over, but it was his dream job.

If Dabo won 5 Natty's at Clemson and people began to compare him to Saban, you know people would immediately say "yeah but he did it in the ACC and Saban did it in the SEC, much harder". Dabo wouldn't want that, I think. Guys like that are competitive as hell.

Dabo could possibly go to the NFL too. Cant rule out the NFL.
One big difference...Roy hadn't won a title at Kansas when he left. Roy also hated the AD there, and the President of the school fired him in some kind of desperate attempt to keep Roy. None of those things exist with Dabo and Clemson.

If he wants a "challenge," well, it's all in how you look at it. Couldn't you say it'd be a challenge to stay on at Clemson, a program that hasn't had this kind of success before, and have a Bear Bryant or Saban-type run there? Instead of returning to your alma mater and following in the footsteps of others? Dabo is well on his way to being the Saban or Bear Bryant-type figure at Clemson. He could stay on and try and achieve that, or leave and follow in the footsteps of someone else. What's the bigger challenge? I don't know, but they are both challenges.

I agree with you that if he did leave Clemson, it'd probably be for the NFL. He seems ill-suited to be a pro coach, but it'd be a hell of a challenge. There's nothing really left for him to prove in college ball, either at Alabama or anywhere else.

Kids care about winning and if Alabama is winning then they care about Alabama. If Dabo becomes the coach there, the recruiting isn't going to slow down at all.

Also, Alabama can't be over-valued to a guy who was born and raised in Birmingham and played football at Alabama. Just like LSU could not be over-valued to Coach O. It's his dream job.

How about waiting to see if he can win his opener for once before we talk about extensions? Maybe make it through a season without any 25+ point blowouts? IDK just seems way to early especially if it increases his buyout.

Sure, and if he walked some of you saying this same thing would be jumping from buildings screaming why didn’t Fulmer pay the man?

It seems some of y’all want the swinging door to keep swinging rather than locking it.

Where is he going to walk? Bama isn't coming after him with his record, no school of higher stature or that can pay more is going to be knocking on his door until he wins something, shows some consistency. There is no worry that another school would be poaching him at this point.

Tennessee & Woodruff did this with Majors several times. It usually preluded a disappointing season. I hope I’m wrong this year.

I could go with 1 year now and another if the season goes good to great.

His contract was until 2023 already. They should have waited until ‘21 at a minimum to do anything after losing to GA State last year.
Fulmer and the Administration don’t care about Ga State now after the win streak and the status of the program as of today.

Both him and his wife were raised in Alabama. He played for Bama as a WR (1990-1992) and graduated there with a degree. He has a lot of ties to that school, not to mention Bama can match Clemson’s salary.

There’s a chance he could stay at Clemson but it’s not unrealistic for him to give Bama a serious look.
I should say I also work directly with a former head coach of another sport at Clemson that knows Dabo very well. They talk every couple of weeks. Dabo isn’t going anywhere. I know, “cool story, bro”, “insider information” whatever. But truth is truth.
Tennessee should sleep walk to an 8-2 record this year.
Nationdom gon Nationdom.

Must be sensing that Saban will retire soon so better up that buyout to make it more expensive for Bama to try to hire him away.
Bama isn't going to try and hire him away...Not sure why people think that will happen...Just because he went there and coached there doesn't mean they are interested in him being bamas head coach, He honestly hasn't proven anything as a head coach yet and bama "Unlike us" wouldn't settle for anything less than a coach with a pedigree and a history of winning.

I think you overvalue his college experience VS a program he built dang near from the ground up. Plus, Dabo's personality doesn't fit Bama. Not even close.

He's not leaving Clemson. Dabo is Clemson. Hes what Joe Pa was to Penn State.

I was hoping they make a move for Mike Gundy. Imagine the raise OkST would give him if BAMA came a courtin'.

Read somewhere that Dabo burned all his bridges at Bama when he started trying to out them for recruiting violations a while back. Plus why would he leave his empire for an equal position?
The bridge may be burnt while Saban is there but I guarantee that bridge will be built back the moment they need to replace Saban and all that happened in the past, will be just that.
GBO!!
