Pruitt gets two year extension

No coach who has built something somewhere else wants to be the guy who follows Saban.

There are at least a few guys though, who haven't made it somewhere else, who will step into that fire as long as you paid them enough. That isn't a good setup for Bama though, who will only want to turn the keys over to someone who has more than proven themselves somewhere else.

I don’t think it’s about “following Saban”, more like a chance to coach at his alma mater resulting in more championships.

He’d have the resources to win right away without having to rebuild anything.

Pruitt would die to coach at Bama. I highly doubt the feeling is mutual though.

This is exactly how this guy got $3.5 million NOT to coach paid to him.....

Must be sensing that Saban will retire soon so better up that buyout to make it more expensive for Bama to try to hire him away.
Seems I remember Michigan was going to hire Butch Jone if we didn’t extend his contract. How did that work out? We are still paying him.
this is right along those lines.

I wouldn't be surprised if he turns it down. It makes ZERO sense to leave Clemson for Alabama. He has built a dynasty that is every bit as good as Alabama. He has fertile recruiting grounds. He has a far easier conference to navigate. He has facilities that are just as good as any in the SEC. And he gets paid an enormous sum of money to coach Clemson. I can't think of a single good reason he should leave Clemson and go to Alabama.

He has lots of things at Clemson, true. But he doesn't have "Head Coach, University of Alabama" next to his name.

And again, he would most likely get to walk into a situation in which a legendary head coach hands over the keys to a fully loaded team ready to win immediately. No rebuilding needed. Yes, there would be more pressure but he could win titles at his alma-mater.

Wow, what retard at UT didn't let that joker walk back to Michigan? I would have said, "here you go Michigan! Good luck the next decade rebuilding your devastated football program"

This guy is a COACH. Not a used car salesman.
If you want talent to stick around, you have to pay for it. We'll see what happens this year, but you're only as good as your last game in this conference. Good luck JP - earn it, and let us reward you with another raise!

Smart move.

Most people are concerned with wins and losses. After 2 years Pruitt is 13-12. He was 6-12 at one point....
Now he's on 7 game win streak.

Moreover look at our roster. Is it FSU 1999, UT 2001, BAMA 2012 "Deep"? No.
But what you do see is almost all style of player at EVERY position.

QB (Pro style and Dual-threat) ✅
RB( speed and power) ✅
WR( speed and size) ✅
OL( Size and talent) ✅
DL (size and talent)✅
LB (speed, versatility, and size)✅
DB (speed, talent, physicality) ✅
None of our position groups are in the lower half of the conference imo.

In other words we have a variety of ways to win a ball game. We will be able to run at will sometimes. We will be able to take the top off the defense sometimes. We will be able physically dominate other olines. We we will be able to shut down most rushing attacks. We will be able to get pressure on most teams in the pass game. Our secondary will match up with almost every team except Bama's WR- who btw is picked to win it all this year.

We have and all-conference type player at every level on defense, and tons of potential in our run game and young QBs.

Pruitt got us better and will continue to do so. Pay him!
Hope your dream scenario works out. That’s a lot of wishful thinking. Hope I’m wrong.

Some of you are missing this..

Coach Fulmer: “Jeremy and I were close to finalizing his extension early this year. But once the pandemic hit and we learned more and more about its potential impact on the department, Jeremy informed me that he preferred not to accept a raise for this year. His focus quickly shifted to his players and supporting them through a period of interruption and uncertainty. His selflessness and concern for the greater good has been neat to observe through all of this.”

Pretty impressive gesture by Pruitt if you ask me.

Yeah, it's a good gesture but likely rooted in goodwill and PR more than actually leaving $$$ on the table. Butch Jones said the same things and the Kool Aid drinkers roasted me into oblivion when I said it was just goodwill and PR....

Talked to a guy that grew up with Pruitt...played golf...ran around together.....stayed in touch etc.....He said...Pruitt won't wow boosters at a meet and greet event.....He won't knock it out of the park at pressers....He won't impress you on a Big Orange caravan tour. But...he's a football coach. He was born and raised a football coach...Pruitt has football in his blood and he lives and breathes football.
I agree with all those points as well....BUT... I think Jeremy has developed skills at the meet and greet and is doing better with press conferences (he now has info/experience to pull from which is crucial to having successful pressers). Will he stay with the Vols if mega-successful? IDK...I guess it depends on just how much Knoxville feels like home and the longer he stays the more homey it gets I'm sure!

Again, he very well might do so, but I highly doubt it. There is more than just "increased pressure" by the fans to win at Alabama. It is not even debatable that it is much harder to win a national championship there. He has everything he needs at Clemson and has a much easier path to the College Football Playoff. I think people are over-valuing the name Alabama here. It's 2020, no kid cares about the history of Alabama. Clemson is viewed on the same level as Alabama now. Changing jobs serves no purpose.

Both him and his wife were raised in Alabama. He played for Bama as a WR (1990-1992) and graduated there with a degree. He has a lot of ties to that school, not to mention Bama can match Clemson’s salary.

There’s a chance he could stay at Clemson but it’s not unrealistic for him to give Bama a serious look.
I think Dabo knows his history and following Saban (I don't care if he's the most beloved son ever) will almost assured be a disaster even if he wins on a high level. Just like the pastor who replaces a long time, well loved pastor. God have mercy on them because the big guns will be aimed at him right from the start. See no reason Dabo would want that in his life UNLESS he feels God is calling him to that spot. JMO. I have no inside info just experiences to pull from.

Now that Dabo has built Clemson into a juggernaut, it's easier to win titles there than at Alabama. He has the resources to win right away at Clemson too, because he's already built it. Other than sentimental reasons, I have no idea why he'd want the Alabama job.

If he was still toiling away at Clemson, almost but not quite had them at an elite level, making good money but measurably less than Saban...sure, he'd take that job in a heartbeat. But not given what he's already built Clemson into.

Kids care about winning and if Alabama is winning then they care about Alabama. If Dabo becomes the coach there, the recruiting isn't going to slow down at all.

Also, Alabama can't be over-valued to a guy who was born and raised in Birmingham and played football at Alabama. Just like LSU could not be over-valued to Coach O. It's his dream job.
